Chapter 149
Alice's face changed instantly. Before she could speak, Lucas pulled her back with a serious expression, "Didn't I just tell you not to trust others so easily? How could you forget so quickly? You're going to make David worry a lot in the future!"
As he spoke, Lucas handed the flowers he was holding to Alice and snorted, "Today is your birthday. I don't have a gift for you, so I can only give you these flowers. Do you like them?"
Gavin chimed in, "Really? Your taste is really hard to understand. How did you even manage to woo your wife? For Alice's birthday, you should have bought a cake instead of flowers. It's more practical and cheaper."
Hearing this, Lucas turned and glared at Gavin, his expression clearly saying: You really talk too much.
"Not worrying is the real trouble." David smiled as he touched Alice's cheek, completely ignoring the angry looks from Marcus and the others, "If I didn't care about Alice at all, who knows what kind of big trouble she might secretly cause that I couldn't handle. Lucas, you need to take good care of your health and keep my grandfather company when you're better."
Upon hearing this, Gavin immediately protested, "What are you talking about! What do you mean keep company? I have my dog to keep me company, and it even responds to me! Lucas, this old stubborn man, has such a bad attitude when I call him. We've been friends for decades, and he doesn't give me any respect."
"Give him respect?" Lucas retorted, "He should go and calm the guests and continue with this birthday party." He then pointed to Marcus and the others, "They have nothing to do with me, and they're not relatives. Please ask them to leave. I'm here to see Alice today, and other matters can wait until tomorrow."
Since Lucas had spoken, Gavin had to give him face and immediately had Marcus's family escorted out.
Juniper didn't expect Lucas to be so ruthless and shouted, "Dad, how can you do this?"
Celeste echoed, "Grandpa! Today we have no dignity left! Do you want the whole family to be humiliated?"
"The ones losing face are you, not me," Lucas's insistence made Juniper and Celeste furious.
Looking at Marcus and Ophelia beside her, Juniper threatened, "Dad, this matter won't end here! This concerns our family's honor, and it's not something you can resolve with a few words!"
Juniper pulled Marcus with one hand and Celeste with the other, leaving the Tudor family in a huff. Ophelia was left standing alone, feeling extremely uncomfortable under the guests' gazes, especially with Esme's hostile look.
This was not the outcome she had hoped for. She had planned to handle everything calmly, but things had spiraled out of control.
After they left, Gavin personally poured wine and served desserts to the guests, who were flattered and repeatedly declined and thanked him. "Oh, today you all saw a joke. I hope you don't mind. I wanted to celebrate properly, but this happened. Please enjoy the food and drinks, and have some cake. I'll personally see you off later, and I'll visit to apologize in a few days."
The guests quickly expressed that they didn't mind and criticized the Bailey family for ruining such a beautiful day. "Mr. Tudor, don't worry about it. We all support Alice."
Meanwhile, Alice helped Lucas stand up from his wheelchair and tidied his clothes. "Alice, help me upstairs to rest."
"Okay." The two went upstairs to the bedroom. Lucas looked around and suddenly asked, "Do you usually share a room with David? Have you done anything inappropriate?"
Alice was instantly petrified, "Grandpa! Is this the time to discuss this? Tell me, am I really not your biological granddaughter?"
Seeing Alice about to cry, Lucas softened. "What does it matter if you're my biological granddaughter or not? Look, Gavin treats you like his own granddaughter. I kept it a secret because I was afraid you'd be too obsessed with this issue or investigate your background behind my back."
They sat on the bed, and Lucas comforted her, "When the time comes, I'll tell you everything. You're one of the people I love the most. How could I bear to see you sad?"
Alice felt very wronged and sad.
Not being Marcus's daughter and losing her status as Miss Bailey didn't make her as sad as this. She didn't care about those things at all; she only cared about Lucas. But who would have thought that Lucas wasn't her real grandfather?
Lucas said, "Today is your special day. Go downstairs and make a wish and cut the cake. I've been waiting for this moment for a long time. You don't want to see a grown man cry, do you?"
Downstairs.
Caleb was a bit worried. While the servants were preparing, he walked over to Gavin and whispered, "Dad, did you know about Alice's situation a long time ago?"
Gavin smiled and greeted the guests. Hearing this, his smile didn't fade but became even more smug, "Do you think I would care about the Bailey family's daughter? If it weren't for Alice, I wouldn't even look at them, let alone be friends with Lucas!"
"Then why did you and Lucas do this? What about Alice's biological parents? Won't they come looking for her?"
"Shut up!" Gavin scolded, "Are you getting old and talking too much today? Mind your own business! Lucas and I will handle this. You don't need to take responsibility! Go and entertain the guests!"
