Chapter 135

David lifted his head, his eyes intense. They interlocked fingers. "Just love me a little more each day. You don't have to do anything special, just let your love grow."

"My demands are simple, but if you can't meet them, I might hurt you." David knew himself well. "Alice, love can soften me, but it can also push me to extremes. I can do things crazier than speeding. No one can stop me except you." He thought, 'If by then you no longer love me, no one will be able to stop me.'

Alice quietly watched David. After a while, she withdrew her hand, opened her arms, and threw herself into David's embrace. They hugged tightly and fell to the floor, their heartbeats racing.

Suddenly, Alice whispered, "Maybe one day, we can openly do these intimate things!"

David was stunned, and after coming to his senses, he couldn't help but laugh. "I'm looking forward to that day."

"But darling, how long are you going to lie on top of me?" After maintaining the same position for ten minutes, David couldn't help but ask.

"Just a little longer." Alice hugged David tightly, lying on top of him, her ear pressed against his chest, feeling his steady heartbeat, which made her feel very at ease.

David pursed his lips, realizing he couldn't do anything about Alice, so he just went along with her. Despite the discomfort of his back against the cold floor and the chill seeping through his shirt, he still felt the warmth from her, as if it was driving away all the cold.

After a few more minutes, Alice slowly got up and sat on David's lap. Even though she had moved away from his hug, she was still reluctant to part.

David propped himself up halfway. Their interaction had left his clothes a bit disheveled, his collar slightly open, and his shirt wrinkled.

"What's wrong?" Feeling some movement on his leg, David moved slightly.

Alice crossed her arms in front of her chest, looking at him seriously. "About what you said earlier, I just want to add something."

David spread his hands. "Go ahead."

Then Alice shot him a glare and said, "I don't get why you're so worried. Or is it that you just don't feel secure? Do you think I look like Lila? Or do you think every woman who gets close to you will end up leaving like she did?"

David was stunned for a moment, then his face was cupped by two small hands. Alice looked deeply into his eyes and asked, "When did you start feeling insecure? Was it after the car accident, or on some day after she left? But now, it's me who's here with you. If you keep feeling anxious and afraid of losing something, it makes me feel bad too."

Then, Alice licked her lips, quickly leaned in, and gave David a fierce kiss. "I'll give you the security you need."

At that moment, David felt as if something had struck his heart deeply, shaking him to his core. He suddenly grabbed her hand and kissed it, his voice slightly low. "I feel like crying right now," he said.

Alice was so surprised she didn't know what to say. She thought, 'How am I supposed to comfort him? I'm not good at this, especially since he's seven years older than me!'

David never expected to be so moved by Alice. "I do feel anxious about uncertainties. With Lila, I gave a lot but didn't get the same trust back. I hope you can give me that trust so I can give you everything without hesitation. I want us to open up to each other completely."

David hugged Alice tightly and gently kissed her lips. "I wasn't planning to tell you this because I was afraid you'd think I'm weak for being scared to try again after one failed relationship."

He smiled and added, "As a businessman, we always want more returns, even if it takes a lifetime to feel it's enough."

Downstairs in the living room, Felix had just come home from work when James pulled him aside and whispered, "You won't believe the juicy news I just heard from David!" James repeated what he had overheard, and Felix gave him a strange look. "If you told me you made up this story yourself, I'd believe it. But saying David said it, I don't."

Then he straightened his tie and prepared to go upstairs to rest, leaving James standing there in a daze.

At dinner, Gavin sat at the head of the table, looking around with a kind smile. "It's rare for the whole family to have a meal together. This feels really nice."
