Chapter 63
Alice paused what she was doing and looked up. The waiter noticed her and grinned, "Hey, remember me? I'm Ophelia Campbell. You helped me out once."
Alice thought for a second, her foggy memories beginning to clear. Suddenly, it clicked. "Oh, it's you. Working here part-time?"
Ophelia nodded shyly. "Yeah, but ever since you helped me, school life's been way better. Still kinda lonely, but at least no one's bullying me anymore. I'm really grateful."
Alice shook her head, like it was no big deal. She'd only met Ophelia once, and it wasn't some heroic act; the bullies just happened to notice her too.
That day, she was in a foul mood and took it out on those jerks. After she gave them a piece of her mind, she got labeled as a campus bully herself.
When David came back, he saw Alice chatting with the waiter and asked, "Ready to go?"
Ophelia noticed David and quickly stepped aside, bowing a bit. "Hello."
David nodded, took the bag from Alice, and gave her a long look.
Alice rolled her eyes at David and reluctantly introduced, "This is Ophelia Campbell, my classmate from Ivywood University. I helped her out once."
David asked, "Are you sure you helped her and didn't just drag her into your mess?"
Alice glared at the plates on the cart, almost wanting to throw one at his head! Not only did he dislike her, but he also didn't trust her. Did she really look like someone who'd cause trouble all the time? David was too much!
David smirked and called out to Alice, who was walking away quickly, "Slow down. You just ate. You don't want a stomachache." Then he followed her.
Ophelia stared blankly at their retreating figures until someone urged her to clean up quickly.
After buying some digestive medicine, David handed the pills and a bottle of water to Alice and casually asked about Ophelia.
"Would you believe me if I told you?" Alice was still upset about the earlier distrust.
David flicked her forehead lightly. "I told you, no matter what you say, I have my own judgment. Just tell me the facts."
After taking the digestive pill, Alice changed her position and lazily said, "I told you, I helped her once."
When she first got into Ivywood University, as the top student in her high school class, her dad Marcus forced her to pick a major she didn't like, just because Celeste had studied it too. She was pissed; you should pick something you love in college, or those four years would be hell.
In the end, it was Lucas who stepped in, letting her choose her major freely and warning Marcus to back off. Marcus was bitter, but he didn't dare to defy Lucas and had to give in. But because of this, she became the target of ridicule by Juniper and Celeste. One day, in a bad mood, she hid in the bathroom to smoke and chill. Unexpectedly, she witnessed a case of campus bullying.
David's face immediately darkened. Alice thought he was upset about the campus atmosphere at Ivywood University, but he actually said, "Did you smoke?"
"I didn't even get the chance!" Alice snapped, "I just took out a cigarette and didn't know there were people inside! I wanted to leave, but they wouldn't let me and even tried to beat me up. Do you think I should've just taken it?"
David stayed silent.
Alice admitted, "I fought back, and then they spread rumors about me being a campus bully. And since Ophelia got hurt, they blamed it on me. How can one person argue against a group? So I stopped explaining."
That was her first encounter with Ophelia. She didn't expect to run into her today. Judging by Ophelia's appearance now, those people no longer bothered her. Maybe they didn't expect that their attempt to tarnish her reputation would instead make her a "legend of Ivywood University," and they were too scared of her to mess with Ophelia again.
Alice glanced at David and sneered, "I know right from wrong and won't take out my anger on others. Clara is the only exception. No matter my mood, if she provokes me, I won't be polite. Even if you're her cousin, you can't make me go easy on her." Just because of Clara's curse on Lucas, she would never forgive her, let alone because of David.
Alice stared out the window, lost in thought for a moment. Just as David was about to start the car, she suddenly grabbed his arm and softly said, "Let's go visit Lucas!"
There was a hint of pleading and anticipation in her eyes, and David couldn't bear to refuse. He signaled her to fasten her seatbelt and then drove towards the nursing home.
David had already called the nursing home in advance. When Lucas learned that Alice was coming, he immediately instructed the nurse to take him back to his room, change into formal clothes, and wait eagerly in the lobby.
About twenty minutes later, David and Alice finally appeared in Lucas's sight.
"Lucas!" Alice ran over with open arms.
Lucas quickly opened his arms to embrace her, gently patting her back and sighing, "Careful, you might trip. I'd be heartbroken."
Alice nestled on Lucas's shoulder, acting spoiled. "I missed you so much. I couldn't wait to see you." This made Lucas overjoyed.
The last time she came, Juniper was there, so Lucas was in a bad mood. But this time, without that eyesore, Lucas held Alice's hand and had David push him, asking on the way back to the room, "Alice, how are you doing at David's place? Has he mistreated you? If you've been wronged, you must tell me. Gavin isn't here today, so I can teach him a lesson."
David smiled without saying a word.
"Yes!" Alice nodded seriously, "He has indeed bullied me."
David's smile froze, and he turned to Alice, raising an eyebrow as if to say, "I bullied you? How come I don't know?"
