Chapter 103

"David, are you pissed?" Alice tiptoed closer to him, her voice barely above a whisper. "Is it 'cause I talked to Lila?"

"Nope." David's reply was icy, his eyes flicking to Alice. He took a deep breath and leaned back. "I'm not mad you talked to her. I just don't get why you did. Or... are you trying to know our past from her?"

Alice opened her mouth but stayed silent. That wasn't her plan at all. She just wanted to make it clear that David was her boyfriend.

Lila was David's ex. Now that she was back and sniffing around, Alice felt a pang of insecurity about their relationship. She just hoped their story wouldn't end as messily as David and Lila's did. So, she wanted to stake her claim.

As for their past, she couldn't care less, especially since the guy in the story was her boyfriend.

"If you wanna know anything, just ask me." David didn't want Lila stirring up trouble between them or making things awkward. But he also felt a bit uneasy about his past, worried Alice might think less of him.

"I don't wanna know anything." Alice's voice was soft, and she noticed David's face darkening. She clammed up. The tension in the car was thick, so she said, "Let's just drive home. I'll think about it on the way."

David started the car and drove off. The car crawled along, getting passed by other cars left and right. What should've been a ten-minute drive took nearly half an hour.

When they got home, everyone in the living room could feel the tension. They exchanged looks but kept quiet, just watching them head upstairs. Once the door closed upstairs, they huddled together, whispering.

"Think David wanted to buy condoms, but Alice said no, so they fought?" James guessed.

Gavin rolled his eyes. "Are you blind? Didn't you see David was mad and Alice was trying to calm him down?"

If Alice were mad, she'd be storming ahead, and David would be trailing behind. But it was the other way around.

In the room, David shrugged off his jacket, tossed it on the bed, loosened his tie, and unbuttoned his shirt. He shoved his hands in his pockets and stared at Alice. "You've been thinking for a while. So what do you want to ask?"

Alice looked up at him, then down at her hands, which were twisted together. After a long pause, she finally asked, "Did you... did you and Lila... ever sleep together?" She held her breath, fists clenched, eyes locked on David, nerves on edge.

David was caught off guard, not expecting that question. He was momentarily speechless.

To Alice, his hesitation was a yes. Her heart sank, and she fought back tears. He... really did... She wished she hadn't asked. It felt so unfair!

David was her first love, having her first kiss. If things went right, he'd be her first in bed too.

But what about David? His first wasn't with her!

Seeing Alice start to cry, David felt a mix of frustration and amusement. He pulled her into his arms, holding her tight. He whispered in her ear, "No, I never did anything with her."

"I don't believe you!" Alice pushed against his chest, trying to break free. "You hesitated! You didn't answer right away!"
