Chapter 43

After hopping off the plane, Gavin had someone pick them up and take them straight to the Tudor Family's place.

It was a rare sight to see both Felix and James there.

Seraphina stood there, hands on her hips, yanking on James' hair. "What’s up with this hair? I don’t see you for a bit, and you come back looking like this?"

James rolled his eyes, pulled his hair free from Seraphina’s grip, and smoothed it out. Then he slid over to Felix and said, "Mom, you’re overreacting. Look, Dad doesn’t even care."

Before he could finish, Caleb chimed in, "I think your mom’s got a point. You’re not a kid anymore. Keep looking like a punk, and you’ll never find a wife."

James pouted and muttered, "Neither of my older brothers have found wives yet. If I do, that’d be weird!"

Gavin cleared his throat loudly, making James flinch and lower his head.

"Oh, Alice is back!" Gavin immediately pulled Alice to his side, bombarding her with questions, completely ignoring his grandson David.

Gavin said, "If it’s fun, let David take you next time. Not much to do around here. Let David take you abroad. Dream Isle is pretty cool!"

James butted in, "Grandpa, that place is for weddings, not vacations."

"Shut up!" Gavin snapped, "I’ll give you one day. If I see that hair again tomorrow, I’ll have someone shave it off!"

James thought to himself, 'Why am I always the one getting picked on?'

Luckily, the servants had lunch ready in no time, and everyone sat down to eat.

James had been dragged back by Gavin. Caleb had no pressing matters, so he stayed home. Felix had a meeting pushed to the afternoon because of Gavin.

During the meal, Gavin kept sneaking glances at David and Alice, trying to catch any weird vibes or eye contact between them. But from the start of the meal till now, they hadn’t even looked at each other, let alone shared food. They just ate their own meals, which frustrated Gavin to no end.

David knew exactly what Gavin was up to. Normally, he might’ve given Alice some food to stop her from being picky. But with so many eyes on them, no matter how innocent his actions were, they’d be blown out of proportion. To avoid any drama, David didn’t look at Alice once.

Alice was on the same page. She had a crush on David first. If she interacted with him now, she’d be blushing like crazy. How would she explain that? Too many clothes in the heat? No way she’d use such a lame excuse!

Never!

Gavin was fuming during the meal. He couldn’t take it out on David for fear of scaring Alice, so James became the punching bag.

After eating, Alice went upstairs to rest. Not long after, James’s screams echoed from downstairs.

James was sprawled on the white round table in the garden, face twisted in agony, hands pushing against Gavin’s wrists, who was holding scissors with a red face.

"Grandpa, didn’t you say you’d give me a day? It’s not even an hour, and you wanna shave my head? That’s not fair!" James yelled.

Gavin snapped, "An hour? I can't wait a second! How did I end up with a grandson like you? You make me lose all my dignity!"

"Damn!" James shot back, "Grandpa, you can't say that! Two people in this house are thirty and still haven't found wives! They're worse than me!"

Felix, on his way to a meeting, felt super awkward.

David, about to knock on the door with a glass of juice, felt a bit helpless.

Gavin paused, took a few deep breaths, and thought it over. It kinda made sense.

Glancing at the glaring hair in the sunlight, Gavin closed the scissors, put them on the table, and ordered, "Come back for dinner tomorrow night. I better see that hairstyle gone!"

James let out a sigh of relief, tugged at his tie, and nodded, "Got it."

When the neighbor brought over a puppy, Gavin grabbed his thermos, took the leash, and went out for a walk.

James had planned to leave after lunch, but after Gavin's scolding, Caleb took over and lectured him for hours before letting him go.

James couldn't understand why he was the only one getting chewed out.

'Are they all managing the company?' James wondered.

Just as James was about to leave, Alice suddenly came downstairs and called out to him.

Seeing her, James looked around first, not seeing David, and then said to Alice in an annoyed tone, "What do you want?"

"It's not me." Alice smiled, and seeing that smile, James instinctively sensed something was off. "It's David who wants to see you."

James thought, 'Crap.'

He knew it. David found out about the street racing. He was doomed.

Entering David's room, the doors to the balcony were open, and the breeze lifted the curtains. The warm sunlight streamed in, casting a faint golden glow on David.

David was wearing a white shirt, sleeves rolled up to his elbows, the shirt clinging to his skin, outlining his tall, broad-shouldered, narrow-waisted figure. It was such a beautiful scene, but James sensed a hint of danger.

Before David could speak, James spilled everything.

James said, "I did take Alice street racing, but David, you can't favor her just because she's younger than me! I'm your brother too! If she hadn't said it was okay, I wouldn't have done it!"

David put down what he was holding and turned around, his expression not as stern, but James was still scared. After all, he was David's brother and knew what David was like deep down.

The old David wouldn't have let things go just because someone admitted their mistake, but the new David might!

Sure enough, hearing James's words, the warning David had prepared got stuck in his throat. He sighed and changed his tone, "You know she's younger, and you still listened to her? This time it was street racing, what's next? Something even more dangerous?"

James lowered his head, not speaking, cursing Alice several times in his heart.

David continued, "James, I'm getting older, and my heart isn't great. If something happens to Alice, I'll be a widower for life. As a widower, I'll have no dignity left. Do you understand?"

James thought to himself, 'David has changed.'

Alice, who was eavesdropping at the door, felt super awkward.
