Chapter 137
Lila had her own plans, and Ophelia was like the ace up her sleeve. But of course, she had other good cards to play. To win the game, every move needed to be carefully planned and executed with precision. Despite the uncertainties ahead, the thought of who would be by her side in the future filled Lila with motivation and made her fearless in the face of any challenges.
On the way to send Ophelia back to school, Lila rolled down the car window and said to her, "Don't overthink it. Just focus on preparing for your exams, and leave the rest to me."
Standing by the car, Ophelia said gratefully, "Thank you, Ms. Green."
"Don't be so formal," Lila said with a smile. "We're friends now, just call me Lila."
Ophelia blushed and softly said, "Okay, Lila."
Watching Ophelia's figure fade into the distance, Lila's smile gradually faded, and she looked calmly at the university gate before driving away.
As soon as Ophelia entered the school, a classmate asked, "Hey, who was that who just dropped you off?"
Ophelia was momentarily speechless.
Seeing this, the classmate quickly waved their hand and said, "It's okay if you don't want to talk. I was just curious."
"She's someone who treats me very well," Ophelia responded softly. "She's really nice."
"Oh, I see!" The classmate nodded and smiled.
Meanwhile, Esme was telling Alice about Ophelia's odd behavior again. Alice rolled her eyes and complained while reading in the library, "Are you still trying to meddle?"
After the last lesson, Esme was more cautious this time. "She looks very uneasy, and I'm worried something might happen to her. I'm just concerned for her out of goodwill."
"That's meddling! Last time, it almost blew up and became known to the whole school. How could Ophelia quietly finish her studies then?" Alice reminded. "My advice is to focus on your finals first!"
Esme pouted. "Alright, alright. I know I was wrong. Do you think I should investigate privately?"
"Just focus on your own exams first!" Alice replied.
The day the exams ended, Esme breathed a sigh of relief. "Finally done. I feel like I'm about to collapse." Esme weakly leaned on Alice as they walked out of the campus. "I always get super nervous during exams, feeling like my life is over if I mess up."
Alice checked her phone and saw a message saying Simon had booked the venue and was waiting for them.
"Let's go. Simon has booked the place and even invited Nathan."
"Yay!" Esme, seemingly revived, immediately pulled Alice towards their destination.
When they entered the private room, they saw Nathan with a cigarette in his mouth, casually resting his legs on a chair. Seeing Esme and Alice come in, he immediately put out the cigarette and stood up to greet them. "Finally, you're here! Let's order, I'm starving!"
The four of them ordered enough food for six people. During the meal, Simon thoughtfully served Alice and didn't forget to ask everyone about their exams.
"How did you do? Shouldn't need to retake any, right?" Simon asked with concern.
"Don't say that!" Esme rolled her eyes. "Can't you say something nice?"
"Alright then. It's my fault.." Simon immediately conceded. "I don't really care because Dylan never pressures me. That's his only good quality."
When talking about other classmates, Alice mentioned that James had to retake a course because he didn't do well, which led to some sighs and comments.
After the meal, Nathan suggested they come to his amusement park for a part-time job experience, but the three unanimously refused.
While chatting, Esme suddenly said, "Oh, your birthdays are coming up. Have you thought about inviting classmates to celebrate?"
"Forget it," Alice said. "Besides us, there's no one else. If Ophelia is available, she can join too."
"Then I need to prepare a good gift," Simon said confidently.
Esme glanced at Simon and warned, "Be careful not to let David find out. Don't say I didn't warn you."
Hearing this, Simon shivered and quickly stuffed a few mouthfuls of food to cover his panic.
Afterward, they went to the amusement park to relax for a while. It wasn't until Alice received a call from David that she said goodbye to her friends and left first.
At the school gate, David was leaning against the car, waiting for her.
They hugged each other, and David gently asked about the exams, only to get a frustrated response from Alice about being frequently asked about them.
"So what do you want?" he asked gently.
"I want to be close to you," Alice replied playfully.
Though excited inside, David maintained his composure and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
