Chapter 38
Back in the day, David got wrecked in a gnarly car crash and almost ended up a veggie. The Tudor fam had to juggle their biz and hunt down the top-notch medical squad to fix him up.
David eventually woke up, but he was a whole new person.
After months in the hospital, David seemed to have lost all his feels. He could chat and follow the doc's orders, but everyone could tell he was just a hollow shell.
To make things worse, the crash left a blood clot near his brainstem. Sure, they could cut it out, but brain surgery here wasn't cutting-edge. There was an 80% chance it’d turn David into a veggie.
The clot gave him killer headaches, mood swings, and some wild behavior.
Lately, David popped pills whenever his head throbbed, so he hadn't had any major freak-outs.
Alice changed David, and that made Dylan super uneasy.
He was worried Alice would turn into another her, the one who messed David up in the first place!
Thinking of that chick made Dylan see red, wishing she’d just vanish into thin air.
"If it's Alice..." Gavin said, "Alice... she's not like that woman. Lucas raised her himself. I trust her."
Dylan was floored.
In the hall, Desmond was munching on peanuts and griping, "What's Dylan's problem? How long's he been in the john? Did he fall in?"
Right then, Dylan walked in.
"Desmond, talk smack about me again, and I'll deck you."
Desmond grinned and offered the peanuts. "Here, dude, have some."
Dylan snorted, grabbed a peanut, tossed it in his mouth, and plopped down.
At nine, David figured it was time, so he called Alice back and told Desmond and Dylan he’d take her back to the villa.
It was colder now than when they left. Even with thick coats, their hands were ice blocks by the time they got back.
David told Alice to hit the bath first while he checked out the women's hot spring at the front desk.
"Not many folks at the women's hot spring now. Most soaked after dinner, so it's chill now. A lot of guests are back in their rooms."
David got back to the room and saw Alice in a bathrobe, one leg on the bed, the other dangling off.
Simon: [I need to study hard and improve every day.]
Alice: [Are you nuts! Dylan said you had a breakup. How could you have a breakup?]
Simon lay on the bed, annoyed, reading Alice's message.
Simon thought, 'Couldn't my breakup be with her?'
Alice: [And what does your breakup have to do with me? Why are you dodging me? Is it my fault you broke up? Did your crush get the wrong idea about us? Give me her number, and I'll clear it up, okay? Why are you avoiding me? You're my only good friend. But you don't explain it, don't answer my calls, and don't reply to my messages, that's just messed up.]
Simon's chest was heaving with anger. He suddenly sat up, hit the voice button, and yelled, "I have a damn crush on you! But you like your uncle David!"
Alice had just sent that long message when she noticed David was back. She pocketed her phone and walked over, "Are there many people at the hot spring?"
"Not many. You wanna go now?" David asked.
Alice shook her head, "Actually, I wanna try the mixed bath."
David frowned, about to object, when Alice's phone buzzed.
She pulled it out and saw Simon had sent a voice message.
Alice played it right away.
"I have a damn crush on you! But you like your uncle David!" Simon's shout blasted through, leaving Alice stunned and her scalp tingling.
