Chapter 139
She didn't think her request was unreasonable, but the way David responded made her feel like maybe she was asking too much.
Alice glanced at David and asked, "So what do you think?"
"Birthday."
Alice's eyes widened, and she half-sat up, almost shouting at David, "Isn't it too early? I'm not ready yet!"
"Early?" David scoffed, "I don't think so! Don't you want to have sex with me sooner?"
"So how have you been dealing with it all these years?" Alice couldn't understand. "Do you just handle it on the spot whenever you have a sexual urge?"
David's face darkened. "What kind of person do you think I am?"
Alice shrank back, not daring to speak again. David also realized his tone was a bit harsh, took a deep breath, and explained, "It's not really a struggle. If I stay away from things that trigger those urges, I won't feel the need. And if I really need to deal with it, there are other ways to handle it."
As he spoke, David glanced at her. "Are you wondering how I handled it when I was with Lila?"
Alice just lay in bed and pretended not to hear him, ignoring him completely.
David was both amused and annoyed, gently ruffling her hair, and said, "We were both really busy at the time."
"What?" Alice was confused.
David patiently explained, "I started my business during college, and it was tough in the beginning. Although some people cooperated with me out of respect for my family, most businessmen prioritized their own interests. I didn't have time to think about anything else."
He glanced at her again. "So, are you happy now?"
Alice let out a few shaky laughs, her shoulders trembling. David rubbed his temples and let out a deep sigh, clearly not wanting to continue the conversation.
"So, you're a virgin?" Alice laughed until tears came out, her abdomen faintly aching, and she gasped for breath before saying this.
David was silent for a moment, then suddenly lowered his head, looking at her with a deep gaze, and said softly, "Really?"
Her heart tightened, and before she could escape, he pressed her down on the bed and bit her neck.
"I don't think being in a relationship means I have to have sex. Honestly, being a virgin isn't the real issue—never having been in a relationship is," David said calmly.
Alice retorted, "But Felix didn't have to!"
David paused and asked, "How do you know he didn't? Did he tell you himself? Did he tell you how many blind dates he's been on? How many relationships he's had? How many times he broke up because it didn't work out?"
Alice was speechless. She looked at David, smirked. "David, you're so childish!"
David also realized his behavior was a bit childish, but he didn't want to admit it and instead blamed Alice, "So, who do you think is to blame for that?
"Alright, it's on me." Alice conceded. After all, she was the one who brought up the topic.
"It's getting late; let's sleep." David got off her, washed his face in the bathroom, then came back to bed, held her, and turned off the light.
The room instantly fell into darkness. David held her with one hand and pulled the blanket with the other.
Before, they shared a bed but slept back to back, never crossing the line. Since they started dating, David always tried to sleep close to her, but in the villa, they only had a few chances. Later, because of exams, they slept separately.
Now that exams were finally over, David could finally get a good night's sleep. "Good night," he whispered.
On the first day of the holiday, Alice woke up to find that David had already gone to work. Still groggy, she wrapped herself in the blanket, planning to go back to sleep when someone suddenly knocked on the door.
James's voice came from outside, "The sun's already up, and you're still sleeping? David must have worn you out last night, huh?"
Alice, speechless and determined to give him a beating, threw off the blanket with a blank expression, her hair a mess, and attacked him the moment she opened the door.
Fortunately, James was prepared and dodged her attack. He took a few steps back to maintain a safe distance before saying, "Don't sleep anymore! My mom asked me to take you out for a walk, so hurry up and get dressed!"
It wasn't supposed to be his job, but since her birthday was coming up, the family was busy preparing for it. Her two brothers were at work, and he was the only one left at home.
Alice couldn't refuse Seraphina's suggestion, so after dawdling for half an hour, she finally followed James out.
The sun was shining brightly outside, and as soon as they stepped out, they heard birds chirping, and a neighbor's dog came running over, wagging its tail.
The neighbor walking the dog asked, "Isn't Gavin walking the dog today? My dog was trying to get me to come over."
The dog barked twice, as if responding.
James took the leash and said, "My grandpa is busy. If you don't mind, I can walk the dog for you."
"Sure." The neighbor handed the leash to James, and the dog obediently followed them.
They claimed they were going shopping, but they just ended up walking around the neighborhood a few times. Their relationship was complex and subtle, like 'enemies meeting, both angry.'
The breeze blew, rustling the leaves, and apart from the occasional bird chirping, the only sound was the jingling of the dog's collar.
They had nothing to say to each other. One focused on walking the dog, while the other lazily had his hands in his pockets, occasionally yawning.
Suddenly, James noticed the scar on Alice's calf, hesitated for a moment, and asked, "Have you ever considered getting a scar removal surgery?"
