Chapter 136
Edna
Arranging the required materials in the positions it should be didn't take too long.
Now, it was time for the last ingredient.
I brought my finger to my mouth before biting down.
Excruciating pain was transmitted to my nerves in waves. My teeth loosened in response.
Fortunately, I was able to draw blood at my first attempt.
If I didn't succeed in one try, I don't think I will be able to muster the willpower to bite my finger again. I would have to look for other alternatives then.
I squeezed my finger before holding it above the center of the whole setup.
The pink sea salt that formed a circle around me started to glow in a strange way.
My eyes was glued to this interesting phenomenon.
I didn't lose myself in my thoughts for too long.
I closed my eyes tightly.
‘Tyler, come back. Brother, come back!’ I changed mentally.
I kept repeating variations of those words over and over again.
The light around me seemed to be getting brighter. I kept my eyes closed and I didn't stop chanting.
Suddenly, everywhere shook.
My perception of the world took a huge hit.
I crumbled to the floor and my eyes flew open.
‘Did the ritual succeed?’
With my heart in my throat, I surveyed my surroundings.
Everything was intact. Somehow, it felt like the earthquake I noticed was all in my mind.
Nothing was out of place.
On the contrary, the pink salt that formed a circle around me had lost its color and glow.
The other materials in the whole setup looked like they had lost vitality too.
I continued to look around.
My hands were trembling.
From the look of things, my attempt to bring my brother back to the world of the living failed.
Tears burned my eyes. I blinked rapidly in a bid to stop the tears from falling. It didn't work.
Salty and hot tears escaped my eyes before flowing down.
I didn't have the strength to stand up.
Everything seemed like it had lost color all of a sudden.
The excruciating ache that came from having hope before losing it assaulted my insides.
It would have been better if I didn't find this reddish book. Ignorance can be bliss sometimes.
After an unknown amount of time, I pulled myself together.
Crying wouldn't change the outcome of my ritual. It was better to go back to losing myself in books.
Suddenly, the air around me changed.
My head moved rapidly as I scanned my surrounding.
I didn't bother asking who was there. I knew I was alone and it will be a waste of effort to do that
My frantic actions scattered the ritualistic setup around me.
After scanning everywhere over and over again, I found nothing.
The chill in the air didn't go away though.
“Sister.” A familiar voice called.
The voice made my eyes widen. I turned to the source of the voice immediately.
The owner of the voice was who I imagined.
Tyler was standing near me with a big smile.
My heart danced with gratitude.
The ritual worked!
