Chapter 161
Chapter 161
Edna
Days flew by uneventfully. Killian and I went back to the normal routine. I was still as idle as ever and Killian was busy with things that are related to the empire he was ruling.
Today was another normal day. I was bored.
Killian and I were in his study like usual.
In the past, I tried to assist him whenever he is working. Alas, the amount of help I can give to him is little because of my lack of knowledge. I didn't know this world as well as he did.
I just settled with helping where and when I can.
Killian was reviewing some documents. I stretched my neck and peeked.
Killian didn't make a move to avoid my peeping eyes. He was always like this.
I was sure that if I wanted him to tell me some information that might be classified as a secret, he would.
I saw a large word at the top of the large tablet. The word was request. I didn't bother to look at the rest of the information on the document.
Suddenly, Killian chuckled.
I tilted my head to face him. Killian kept his eyes on the document.
"If you are bored, find something to occupy your time. You can try to hunt in the free range connected to the palace or do something else." He suggested.
"I have no interest in those things for now." I replied as I slumped on the chair I was sitting in.
The chair was close to Killian's desk.
The large pot of flowers in the corner that was closest to us exuded a pleasant scent.
Suddenly, a knock broke the silence that had settled in the study. Killian stopped looking at the document in his hand.
He stared at the door.
"Come in." He said in a deep voice.
The door knob turned and someone walked in. It was an imperial guard.
"What is the matter?" Killian asked.
There was a superior aura around him. Oppression painted his features. He looked threatening without getting angry.
The guard bowed his head a little before straightening his figure.
"I have something to report. A new disease broke out in the capital city. My superiors had sent a document reporting this incident but we haven't gotten feedback from you yet. I came here to report in person in case your majesty haven't seen the report." The guard spoke.
I stopped slouching and focused on what the guard was saying.
Killian's eyes were covered in a solemn light, "Tell me more about this new disease."
Although the guard hadn't finished his explanation, it was clear that the issue he was reporting was serious. This world was large. I learned from Killian that this world was divided into counties, cities and other similar structures.
A governor was in charge of each city and county.
Killian was the head of them all. Those governors report to Killian annually. If the issue was serious, they would would send an electronic memo to him.
Apart from these governors, Killian had officials here in the capital city that would assist in his reign.
Vladan was one of those ministers.
Since the only place that was directly under Killian's jurisdiction was the capital city, it was a big deal for something to happen under Killian's nose.
The guard's face didn't look good.
He responded, "The incident began a few days ago, six days ago to be precise. The people that fell sick and the others around them thought it was one of the known illnesses. After getting a test, the only thing that was found is the fact that the cells of the sick people is consuming itself and swallowing the other cells around it."
"So, this strange illness is acting like a cancer cell somehow." Killian's brow furrowed.
"Exactly." The guard agreed, "The only positive thing in all of this is the fact that the symptoms of the diseased people are very similar. It makes it easier to discover who had been infected."
"Have you guys started investigating what might be the source of the disease?" Killian questioned.
The guard nodded, "Yes, but we have not discovered anything that might help us in this case yet."
"Can you mention some of the symptoms of the disease?" I questioned.
The guard said this disease was something they had not seen before.
The reason I asked the guard to tell me about some of the symptoms of this strange disease was because I wanted to see if any human illness matched the description he would give.
I know humans and aliens have differences. Still, I wanted to check if this disease was similar to any human illness I know.
If there was uncanny similarities, there might be clues that would lead us to a cure.
