Chapter 196
Chapter 196
Edna
Months passed by. After my warning, the higher ups of the human race didn't make any other malicious moves.
I was happy to reduce my vigilance and relax. It was a great thing to see humans going against the negative stereotypes I have of them in my mind.
As long as they behaved, things will be fine.
Killian and I were currently strolling through one of the streets in the capital.
We were a long distance away from the palace. I was the one that persuaded Killian to go on this stroll with me. Although the VR studio he gave me was great, I still desired to explore the world outside the palace.
Killian and I were walking hand in hand. The two of us were wearing half masks. His mask was as dark as the night and mine was pure white.
We weren't wearing extravagant clothes and we tried hard to blend in with the people around us.
My eyes were on the beautiful shops around us.
My eyes fell on a cotton candy store. A woman that I presumed to be the owner of the store was attending to the queuing customers.
She was making all kinds of humans, things and animals with the cotton candy.
I leaned closer to Killian, "Let's go to that cotton candy shop."
Killian indulged me with a smile on his lips. He let me drag him to the cotton candy shop. We joined the queue.
The woman finished selling to the customers in front of us. Soon, it was our turn.
"What would you like to make with your cotton candy young lady and young man? If you prefer the basic round shape, please signify." The woman said.
"Can you make cotton candy figurines of me and my partner?" I asked with expectation shining through my pupils.
The woman looked at us carefully for a while. Then, she nodded.
"Great. Please start." I said as the smile on my face became bigger.
I was hugging one of Killian's arms.
The woman questioned, "Which color do you want?"
I shrugged, "Any color is fine."
The woman got to work immediately.
A few minutes passed by and our candy figurines was ready.
The woman handed two cotton candy sticks to me.
Killian gave her a black card. Fortunately, the lady did not have an only cash policy. She used a POS machine to withdraw her fee.
I observed the two candy figurines I was holding. The woman was talented. I could see great resemblance between the candy figurines and our real life selves.
My candy figurine was blue while Killian's figurine was a beautiful pink.
I handed the candy stick that contained my figurine to Killian.
A mysterious smile appeared on my lips, "I want you to check how I taste and gave me feedback."
Killian's eyes darkened.
"Edna, you are playing with fire." His voice was hoarse.
"Bring your mind out of the gutter. I was talking about the cotton candy, not whatever you are thinking about." I denied with a chuckle.
An helpless sigh left Killian's smiling lips. He brought the cotton candy figurine to his mouth and took a bite.
Suddenly, something landed a few meters away from Killian and I.
Before I could have a good look at what the thing was, the thing released large amounts of smoke that obstructed the surroundings.
Footsteps approached where Killian and I were. Although the footsteps were as quiet as it could be, I still noticed.
Killian's arm wrapped around my waist as he brought me closer. His eyes observed the surroundings over and over again.
The people that have been approaching us finally arrived. The smoke started to dissipate.
The first thing I noticed was the weapons in the hands of the group that was surrounding us. The second thing I noticed was the black clothes covering every inch of their faces.
My superpower thrummed beneath my skin. I was ready to lash out.
My mind raced with the possibilities of who our assailants might be.
I was sure that many people were dissatisfied with Killian and I. Both humans and aliens were prime suspects.
The civilians around were already fleeing. Killian and I didn't move.
It was very obvious that we were the target of this ambush. Instead of running or hiding, it was better to confront this people.
The black clothed individuals around us attacked abruptly.
They didn't depend on only their weapons. Some of them had superpowers.
Killian and I didn't bring any imperial guards with us. We figured out that we will be able to hold our own against any troublesome person.
We didn't know that we would be the target of an ambush though.
The fight went on for a while. Killian truly deserved his title as one of the strongest people on this planet. He thrashed his opponents.
I didn't lag behind either. The numbers of the black clothed individuals dwindled.
Only two assassins remained. Our surroundings was quiet. One of the two assassins remaining was a woman.
Before I could find a way to capture the man that was my opponent, he slumped.
I was surprised. I moved forward to check his body. I removed the black cloth covering his head.
My hand pinched my opponent's jaw. I wanted to observe his face.
His jaw slackened. A smelly odor came out of his mouth. His mouth looked like a black hole. His tongue was black too.
My opponent wasn't breathing and his open eyes was pale.
I raised a brow. It looked like this man swallowed poison or something.
"Don't let her commit suicide!" I shouted.
Killian nodded. Soon, he was holding the lady captive.
I moved over to where he was. I yanked the clothes on the woman's face away.
