Chapter 177

Chapter 177

Killian

I walked towards the bed and sat down at the edge. Silence reigned for a moment.

I parted my lips, “Edna, I am back.”

The person on the bed behaved like she didn't hear my words. I wasn't upset. I knew she wasn't in a good mood.

She was worried about me. The two of us are filled with worry for each other.

My worry and care for her was one of the biggest motivators for the risky meeting I had with the green haired man. I understood how she was feeling.

“I am sorry.” I apologized, “I'll try my best to make you don't feel the way you are currently feeling again.”

A scoff sounded.

Although the action was done in mockery, I was just happy that Edna was willing to engage with me now.

My eyes brightened.

Edna turned around to face me.

The first thing that came into my sight was her red eyes. A few drops of tears stained her cheeks and eyelashes.

The happiness I was feeling drained away quickly. The sudden tension that overwhelmed me made me straighten my body.

Worry clouded my heart. My hands landed on her shoulder and hair.

My eyes scanned her repeatedly, “Is something wrong? Are you okay? Is something hurting you somewhere? Shoukd I call a doctor?”

Edna shook my hands off, “Nothing is wrong with me. The person that hurt me is you.”

Some of the heavy weight that was pressing down on my heart faded away. I really thought something was wrong when I saw her strange state.

I was grateful that I was overthinking.

“I am sorry.” I repeated.

Edna sneered, “Stop saying what you don't mean.”

I raised a brow, “What do you mean? How do you know that I didn't mean what I said? I am really sorry for making you sad and for making you worry about me. I am truly sincere.”

Edna blinked, “I know you don't mean your apology Killian. If somehow, we are transported back to the past, I know you are going to repeat the same thing you are apologizing for.”

I paused. She was right. If I was given the chance to go back to the past without any knowledge that I have now, there was a very high chance that I would repeat the same actions that brought us here.

The only exception might be if I was taken back to the past with the current knowledge I have now.

“You see?” Edna said as she took my expression in, “Your apology doesn't mean much.”

I bowed my head a little.

There was nothing I could say to that.

The only thing I could offer right now was an apology. From the look of things, Edna wasn't willing to accept those apologies. I can't blame her.

A sigh left Edna’s lips, “So, how did the meeting with the mastermind go? Were you able to get anything that would help our search for a cure?”

I nodded, “There was a few hiccups along the way but I arrived at a satisfactory ending.”

Edna tried to sit up but I pushed her to her former position gently.

“You are still sick, don't move around too much.” I advised.

She nodded curtly before she shifted into a comfortable position.

“Tell me everything.” She said.

I didn't waste time. I told her what happened from the moment I arrived at the meeting place the green haired man had given me.

I told her about my plan to use some imperial guards to ambush him.

“Wow. You have been through a lot. I am thankful that things are finally looking up now.” Edna said.

I looked at her with puppy eyes, “So, can I get your forgiveness now?”

I don't know why I was focusing on this matter but my heart refused to let it go.

A look that was filled with resignation covered Edna’s face, “Alright, I heard you. I forgive you. I wasn't even really angry in the first place. I will just sad. I know you were worried about me and the other people that got sick. Even after knowing this, my heart felt pains when you decided to throw yourself into danger.”

I rubbed the center of my brows, “Thank you for forgiving me. Edna, I can see it now that I am not fulfilling the promise of protection that I made to you. I feel like I can't apologize enough for breaking my vows.”

Edna’s hand found mine, “Killian, don't say that. You have done your best and I can see that. You are trying and that matters. There are uncertainties everywhere. Even the most powerful person can't eliminate that.”

I smiled with understanding.

The two of us quieted down naturally. The atmosphere was so comfortable that I wished to stay there forever.

This sense of peace was addictive. The only issue was the fact that Edna wasn't as healthy as I wanted her to be.
