Edna
My eyes scanned the group of people that Killian brought.
Suddenly, my gaze landed on a familiar face. Although there was some differences between this face and what I remembered, I was sure that I wasn't hallucinating or dreaming. The person before me was who I thought it was.
Renee, the girl I gave my brother's slot to during the evacuation from Earth was part of this exploration team.
I sat up abruptly.
Surprise was etched on my face.
"Renee." Her named dropped from my lips.
"Edna." She responded in kind.
She left the group unconsciously and arrived at my bedside.
"Edna," Renee said, "It is really you."
A smile appeared on my lips, "Yes. I can't believe that you are part of the exploration teams humankind keeps sending out."
"I didn't know I would get chosen too." Renee scratched her cheek.
The other people in the group Renee was part of exhibited varying reactions after seeing the familiarity between Renee and me.
Some of them relaxed while majority of them became wary.
"Edna, how did you end up here. I thought we were going to meet a very bad end after we were captured.” Renee questioned.
"The story about how I got to this current moment is a long one. I don't think we have the time for that. Don't worry, you would be okay. I am so sorry for bringing you here in a way that made you scared." I responded.
"I really appreciate your guarantee about our safety. Regarding the long story about how you got here, we can talk about that later or we can go with shortening the story. The option to keep the story to yourself is available too." Renee replied.
"Has the government gotten any replies from the exploration teams that they kept sending to this planet?" I questioned
"Yes and no." Renee said, “Let me explain. The response from the exploration teams that have been sent to this planet are few and almost useless. Still the government got something from those replies. The higher ups know that this planet is inhabitable and they also know that the indigenes are special. More exploration teams are sent to gather more data on this strange indigenes and other things.”
Like I had guessed, the human government didn't want to give up on this planet
A cough sounded. The cough came from a person in the group that Renee was part of.
It was a woman. Her hair was short.
Her demeanor showed that she had been in the military or other areas similar to that.
Everyone's eyes turned to her.
The woman was unfazed by the attention she was getting.
"Before spilling all our secrets, aren't you going to introduce us first? I think we all know how dangerous it can be if people with unverified and unknown character gets a hold of important secrets.” She asked.
Renee's expression changed, "Edna is not someone with unverified and unknown character. She's not a dangerous person."
The military woman that spoke shrugged, "Well, I didn't say that. Did I mention her name?"
"You implied that!” Renee responded.
“Enough of this! Are you going to introduce us to each other or are we all going to stand here like idiots while you two talk?” The woman questioned.
Renee breathed in and out to calm herself.
“This is Edna. She is a member of one of the earliest exploration teams the government sent to this planet. Unlike some people, her character is commendable and she's a great person.” Renee said.
The woman rolled her eyes.
Renee pointed at the woman that demanded an introduction, “That is Diana. The chubby lady is Lana. The muscular guy is Richie. The chubby man is Milo. The thin and tall guy is Abednego.”
Aside from Diana, Richie and Abednego looked like they came from a military background.
My eyes lingered on them for a while before leaving.
