Chapter 156

Chapter 156
Edna

After the speech, Killian sat back down and turned to me.

"I think the two of us should move around the hall. I don't want to seat here and wait for people that want to pay their respects. It would be too boring." Killian said.

"I agree." I responded.

I won't even lie. I was itching to go to the area of the hall that had a bountiful amount of food. Guests could be seen visiting that area.

The food area was basically an all you could eat buffet. Each guest that visited the area served themselves.

Some guests waited for servants to get their food and snacks for them.

I stood up and Killian did the same. The two of us began our leisurely stroll around the venue.

Although this party was ritualistic, it was not very strict. It was more of a remembrance party. I was thankful for the relaxed atmosphere.

The center of the hall was filled with people that danced together. The people responsible for the music were in one corner of the hall.

My body released a tension I didn't know I harbored.

Killian brought me around.

After wandering for a while, people started coming towards us.

When those people stood before us, we started exchanging pleasantries.

I don't know how many times Killian and I spoke to people that came up to us for reasons best known to them. Killian introduced me numerous times.

I was tired of exchanging pleasantries.

I looked towards Killian.

"What is wrong?" He asked me with concern coloring his pupils.

"I am going to get myself something to eat. I would meet up with you later. Stay where I can see you." I said .

He smiled in response.

After informing him of my plan, I released our joined hands before heading to the food area as fast as I could.

My nose inhaled the refreshing scents of the delicacies available in the food area.

An unconscious smile bloomed on my lips. I grabbed a food tray before I started selecting my choices of food.

Suddenly, someone bumped into me. The tray in my hands crashed to the floor. The tray was made from a special material that was similar to glass.

The fancy tray shattered into pieces before my eyes. The food that was originally in the tray mixed with the shattered bits from the tray.

I looked up. The person that mistakenly bumped into me was a lady. She was in a beautiful two piece outfit that was the color of emerald.

She bowed her head. Her flowing brown hair obscured parts of her face.

"I am so sorry. It was a mistake." She apologized.

Her head lowered.

The lady was holding a tray similar to mine in her hands.

A pleasant scent that consisted of the fragrance of roses and lilies drifted into my nose. I didn't think much of it. Most people liked to use perfumes or keep beautiful scents around them.

I waved, "Don't worry. It is not a big deal. What happened earlier is just an harmless mistake."

A small smile appeared on the lady's mouth.

The lady started to thank me profusely. I kept reassuring her that things are fine and I wasn't angry.

I was glad that my dress wasn't stained by the mess made by the broken tray.

Three servants walked over to where I was with cleaning tools in their hands. Before I could blink, the dirty food and broken pieces of the tray was cleaned up.

The scene was restored to how it was before the accident.

I stopped focusing on the cleaning crew and grabbed another tray.

When I looked around, the lady that bumped into me was nowhere to be found.

I stopped thinking about her. Our intersection was brief and we might not meet again. There was no need to waste brain power on a random stranger.

After getting a few portions of food, I left the food area.

Killian had already returned to throne.

His sitting position was leisurely.

His back wasn't straight. His right hand was below his jaw.

Killian's sharp eyes scanned every inch of the hall in boredom. His gaze didn't skip the guests that were socializing.

The portions of food I took from the food area was small. After that lady bumped into me, my appetite was affected.

I went back to the throne too and sat down. I placed the tray on my legs.

Then, I started eating.

I didn't speak to Killian during my meal.

Time passed by at a medium pace.

Soon, I was done. I returned the dirty tray to the food area.

After sitting back down, I released a sigh of comfort.

"You like food too much." Killian said with a smile.

He stopped focusing on the hall.

His fiery eyes was concentrated on me.

"Food is life." I said with a twinkle in my eyes.

Killian and I continued exchanging small talk for a while. Suddenly, a vein popped up on Killian’s forehead.

His eyes changed. The transition from calm to turbulent was quick.

The blood vessels in his eyes started to become more prominent. The overall aura around Killian changed.

He looked like a beast that was waking up from slumber.

I straightened my body and stared at him with wide eyes.

I asked, "Killian, what is wrong with you?"

My hands lay on my laps uselessly. I wanted to touch him but I didn't want to make matters worse. I don't know what was going on.

"I am under the influence of a drug." The words came out of Killian's lips in a growl.

Killian looked like he was about to lose control.

His hands were fisted.

My mouth felt like the necessary moisture was sucked away. Swallowing didn't help matters.

I really wished I misheard what Killian said.

Sadly, it was very clear that my ears were working properly.

Drugged? How?
