Chapter 175

Chapter 175

Killian

After saying those words, the green haired prisoner paused to breathe.

My eyes were heavy.

I took a breath in before opening my mouth, “So, because of your love for money, you didn't think about the pain those people and the pet you tested on would feel?”

“I a-am sorry. I d-didn't know w-what I was d-doing.” He replied shakily.

I scoffed, “No, don't say that. Don't try to lie in order to make your punishment lighter. It would be for the best if you own up to what you did.”

“I am so sorry.” He repeated.

I won't lie, his apology was getting on my nerves.

Sorry wouldn't do anything. It won't perform a miracle that would make Edna healthy again. It won't get rid of the sickness in those poor civilians that was affected.

The sorry was just there to make him feel better

I didn't want to pounder on his apology anymore.

I looked at him, “I have a question. Although you and your buddy tried your best to be cautious when dealing with the strange flesh you found, according to your words, something is still not adding up. The disease that came from the strange flesh is extremely infectious and I don't think the chance of you two not getting effected is low.”

A little bit of color returned to his face.

His tongue darted out of his mouth to lick his lips, “I don't know why the sickness from the flesh didn't affect us. Maybe we were immune or something.”

“Did you guys try to eat the flesh or did you two do anything special? I am not in an hurry for an answer so think carefully.” I asked.

He took my warning to heart and he didn't answer me immediately. He fixed his eyes on the air beside me as he lost himself in his thoughts.

“We did not dare to eat the flesh after seeing what happened with the pet we used as a test and we upped the safety measures we were using around the strange flesh.” He paused again.

I wasn't in an hurry so I continued waiting for the rest of his words.

“The only thing I can remember is the fact that both me and my friend touched the ice around the strange flesh. I don't think that can count as a special circumstance since our skin didn't touch the ice directly.” He finished.

My thumb rubbed circles around my index finger as I lost myself in my thoughts.

My eyes rested on the prisoner before me.

Fear wafted off him in waves and his eyes were basically begging me to accept his explanations. It was clear that he has nothing more to say regarding my enquiry.

Aside that, I felt like the explanation he gave was feasible.

“How did you two accomplish the task of infecting my queen with the disease that was discovered?” I questioned.

“Dean, my friend, has a superpower that makes it easy for him eavesdrop on people. As long as he touches the person, he would have a limited surveillance scope of the person. He would be able to hear what the person says or even see to an extent. He is friends with one of the servants in the palace.” He began.

I nodded to show that I was following.

“Dean asked his friend to introduce other servants in the palace to him. I told him to use the fact that he wants to create a personal network as an excuse. From then on, some of your queen’s itinerary was known to us. Once we knew that she was going to the garden, I brought one of the pets I had deliberately infected and released it near the garden. I made sure I wasn't so close when I released the pet. I didn't want to alert your human Queen.” He said.

I clicked my tongue. To gain wealth, the two of them really invested tangible efforts.

“When you asked me to meet up with you, you promised to give me an antidote. Where is the antidote? Is there even an antidote?” I questioned.

His eyes were on me but after the last word of my sentence dropped from my lips, he looked away.

I cleared my throat. That action seemed to send him into a spiral. His eyes met mine again.

The green haired man swallowed audibly.

“We don't have an antidote. The package I was supposed to give you if you acted according to the plan was what remained of the strange flesh we discovered.” He spilled his guts quickly.

I had a sneaking suspicion that this was how it was but it was still disheartening to see my suspicion come true.

Instead of anger, resignation colored my heart.

“I knew you are the kind of King that cared about the common people so I suspected that some scientists must have been researching the cure to the disease. I have a feeling that giving you the source of the infectious disease would help with the research.” He confessed.

After going through everything, we went back to square one.

I looked at him with pressure accumulating around me, “Where is the antidote or rather, where is the package you were supposed to give to me?”

This time, the green haired man didn't answer me quickly.

“Before I say anything about the whereabouts of the package, can I make a request? Can you let me go? No, can you let us go?” He said his request before I could reply to his first question.

I have a feeling he knew that the probability of me refusing his request was high.

Laughter bubbled out of my throat. He looked at me like I was going crazy. After a while, I calmed down

“First of all, you are my prisoner and you can't make demands. Second of all, with all the atrocities that you committed, do you think you deserve to be pardoned in any way?” I asked.

“Please.” He pleaded.

He didn't try to defend his case.

At least, he knew he crossed a line no one should cross.
