Chapter 189
Chapter 189
Edna
I looked up at the rest of the group that were standing.
"So," I began, "How did the communication with the higher ups go? Are they willing speak to me? Have they considered the offer I made?"
"The communication went well. The answer to your last two questions is yes." Abednego responded, "The government doesn't want the meeting between you and them to be achieved through calls. The higher ups wants to speak to you face-to-face before we get started with anything."
I shrugged, "That's totally okay. Is the meeting going to be held today or is it going to be scheduled for another time? I would encourage the human government to hurry. If they continued hanging above this planet, more resources would keep being depleted.”
"The meeting is going to hold today. They are ready whenever you are." Abednego responded.
"Where is the Alien King?" Diana's voice interjected.
My eyes cooled down as I looked at her, "I am not obligated to answer that question. Where he is none of your business."
"Why are you acting haughty?" Diana questioned as she rolled her eyes, "Without him, you don't have any agency or power. Getting settled on this planet depends majorly on him. Is there anything wrong with me asking about him?"
"Since you think I don't have enough power, authority and agency, you and the rest of your people can leave. After Earth was destroyed, I am not obligated to help humans find another inhabitation. I am just doing all this out of the kindness of my heart. You keep going against me and I won't stand for that." I said.
"Shut up Diana! If you don't speak, nobody will think you were born mute. Your annoying character and your sharp mouth are the ingredients for a disaster recipe." Renee shouted before turning to me, "Edna, please don't be angry. I apologize on her behalf. Don't let her anger you to the point of ignoring humankind."
Renee didn't hold back when she scolded Diana. Renee didn't let the fact that Diana was a military personnel and that she was a civilian stop her.
Hearing Renee's apology made the coldness on my face reduce.
My lips parted, "It is better to keep a rabid dog like her in check. Letting her roam free would cause trouble."
"Who are you calling a rabid dog?" Diana asked with anger shining through her pupils.
I ignored her stupid question. I don't want to exchange words with an animal.
I turned to Abednego, "I am ready to meet up with the human government anytime. We can even go now."
Someone knocked. Everybody in the room looked towards the door.
The person at the door pushed it open. Killian is the new arrival. He walked in.
"How is the feedback from your people?" He looked at me with focused eyes.
"It is a positive response. The human government wants me to meet up with them." I said.
"A positive response is good." Killian said.
"Oh." I slapped my forehead softly before turning to Abednego, "I forgot to ask about the location of our meeting. Would the human government be willing to send their representatives to this Palace for the meeting?"
"Although you are part of humanity's first exploration team, you are now affiliated with the alien race. I think you can understand if the human government doesn't want to send their representatives to the palace. This Palace is your territory and it is dangerous to let you have majority of the power." Abednego explained.
"Okay." I raised a brow, "Where are we going to meet at then?"
"Don't worry." Abednego continued, "We are not going to meet on the human spaceship either. You having the same suspicions we have is very possible. Even if you aren't suspicious, we don't like using double standards. The higher ups want us to meet in a place that is not too far from the spaceship."
"I hope it is not what I am thinking. I am not going to meet you guys in space." I said with a joking tone.
Abednego blinked awkwardly, "We are going to meet on this planet. I am so sorry for not being very clear."
"Okay." I said before facing Killian, "Are you done with your work?"
Killian nodded, "I am basically done for today."
"That's great. I want you to accompany me." I replied.
"Let me get the hovercraft ready." Killian said before he started tapping on his wristband.
Silence settled in the room.
I grabbed the tablet. There are some games on it that I could use to pass the time.
Renee was lost in thought. The other people from Renee's exploration team remained quiet.
After an unknown amount of time flew by, Killian looked at me.
"The hovercraft is ready. Let's go." He said.
I nodded before dropping the tablet. I rose to my feet and Renee did the same.
Soon, everyone filed out of my ward.
We arrived at the area the hovercraft was parked. All of us went into the hovercraft.
Some guards followed us into the vehicle. One of the guards settled in the driver's seat.
Killian sat down and he pulled me to sit beside him.
He pointed at Abednego, "Go and sit with the driver. You are going to describe and pinpoint the location we are heading to."
Abednego nodded respectfully before heeding Killian's instructions.
Killian's hand tilted my head and shoulder. Following his action, I leaned on his shoulder and chest.
"What do you think the representatives from the human government is going to say?" I whispered.
"I don't know. Just know that everything regarding this matter is in your hands. If you decide to scrap this meeting and everything else, I am going to fully support you. So be at ease. Don't worry about what they will say or what they won't say." Killian said.
Although I wasn't really nervous, his words brought calmness and security.
The two of us fell silent. The silence between us was not oppressive or suffocating, it was comfortable.
Numerous pairs of eyes kept falling on us occasionally. I ignored their gazes.
My eyes fell on my hands. I haven't used my superpowers for a while. To prevent any regression of my skills, it is necessary to put practice on the agenda.
The movement of the hovercraft was smooth and it didn't feel like we were moving at all.
"We are here." The voice of the driver came.
I straightened my body.
Killian opened the nearest door and gestured for me to go down. I left the vehicle.
Killian came down too. The other people in the vehicle alighted.
My eyes scanned the surroundings. This place was filled with trees and other forestry.
At first glance, it felt like only the people that came down from the hovercraft were in the area.
