Chapter 197

Chapter 197
Edna
Shock colored my eyes as I saw who it was. I wasn't familiar with this woman personally but I was very familiar with her race. This woman was a human.

There was something strange about her though. Even when her face was covered, I noticed that she was among the people that used superpowers.

Humans weren't born with superpowers so it was strange. Amongst humans, I was a special case.

My brows formed a frown.

What were the higher ups of the human race up to again?

My mind didn't entertain the thought that this woman might be acting on her own. The higher ups of the human race has a bad track record so I was suspicious of them first.

I walked towards the nearest dead assassin. I removed the black head cover. This assassin was an alien.

I didn't stop there. I checked the other dead assassins.

The last male opponent that I faced was an alien male. He didn't have horns but his skin was light green.

Out of the 20 assassins that attacked us, 10 were humans.

I walked back to where Killian was.

Something was fishy.

Why would a human have superpowers? Why would the human race cooperate with some aliens to attack us?

I wanted to unravel whatever the higher ups of the human race were doing before it would turn into consequences that I cannot bear.

I was the one that proposed the idea that humans should settle down on this planet. Any evil thing they do would reflect badly on me. I could still remember that I was in the process of being accepted by the people of this planet. This wasn't the time for humans to act up.

It seems another bad record would be added under my name.

I looked at the woman, "If you tell me everything about what is going on, I am going to grant one wish of yours."

The woman rolled her eyes, "If I ask for you and your husband's death, would you be able fulfill that wish?"

"Stop acting dumb!" I snapped, "You know what I am talking about. Anything except his or my death, murder, giving the throne to you and other similar things."

"I don't have any wish." The woman said listlessly.

It looks like this woman didn't have anything to live for.

This kind of people were harder to negotiate with.

"I will give you a quick death if you confess." Killian said.

The woman stared at the two of us for a while. Then, she nodded.

"It is pretty simple. Humans aren't satisfied with their current situation. Mixing that dissatisfaction with alien people that seem to be against their ruler and you have a ticking time bomb." The woman began.

Killian and I focused our eyes on the woman. We listened intently.

The woman continued, “After the two groups settled on an agreement, humans supplied people to the laboratory that was created. The alien group brought aliens to the laboratory too. The reason the laboratory was created was to find ways to give humans superpowers and improve the existing superpowers of aliens. In essence, they are just looking for ways to create soldiers that would be able to overthrow the alien ruler of this planet."

Killian looked at her with deep eyes, "How did you know all these information? For a simple assassin, I don't think they are going to reveal the entirety of their plans to you."

"We are basically dogs. I and the others are under their control so they aren't worried. The powers and enhancements they gave us is more of a curse than a blessing. They implanted some kind of biotech chip into our brains that basically gives them all the control. They have ways to make our lives a living hell from miles away." The woman said.

As she spoke, her eyes started to redden. Veins moved like snakes beneath her skin. Her hands were clenched tightly.

The woman's brown hair hung limply. Sweat formed on her skin.

"If you were implanted with this chip, how are you able to say all these things to us?" I questioned.

"They would have noticed that I am telling you all these things. You have to take action soon. The laboratory is a few miles away from the Earth City." The woman said through gritted teeth.

Blood seeped from her lips. Her clothes stuck to her body because of sweat.

"I chose to confess because of two reasons. For starters, you can save the poor humans that are being sent into the laboratory for experiments. The second reason is the swift death you would give me." The woman spoke, "Now, do what you promised."

The woman looked like she was suffering torture. She was still in the kneeling position Killian forced her into.

Killian acted quickly. His large hand grabbed her neck. A light glow appeared beneath his palm.

Soon, light left the woman's eyes and she collapsed.

Killian released his fingers. The woman's lifeless body fell to the floor like a rag doll.

I was glad that the woman chose the option of telling us the truth.

Even if her words weren't the whole truth, the information she gave made it easier for us to know what the problem originated from.

If she had refused to say anything, I would have threatened people in the Earth City to get the information I wanted.

My face wasn't looking good at all. Humans were causing trouble again.

Although there were some aliens involved in this whole issue, I didn't want to see humans involved at all.

"Let's go straight to the laboratory." Killian said, "We have limited time frame to work with like the female assassin said. I don't want to give those scheming people the chance to cover things up."

"Alright." I agreed.

I was glad that Killian didn't suggest for me to stay out of this issue. Since humans were involved, I had to be involved too.

We didn't leave immediately. Killian started typing something on his wristband.

After a while, he stopped and looked at me.

"We should leave now." He said, "Some imperial guards would meet us in Earth City."

I hummed to show that I was listening. Then, the two of us walked to where our hovercraft was parked.

Fortunately, the area we parked our vehicle at was some distance away from the place the ambush happened in.

Our hovercraft wasn't affected.

The two of us got into the vehicle and headed towards Earth City.
