Chapter 234

Over the last three or so weeks I have made myself familiar enough with the place that navigating isn’t a problem. It’s as I turn down the wing that holds alpha’s office, plus numerous rooms I have never asked about, that I suddenly find myself turning tail, running out of the hall back into the common room.
My phone rings for another incoming message and I know I’m in for something bad. I have never had this strong of a reaction to the other alphas that I met on my other two runs but then again I interacted mostly with their beta and delta. Only the ones causing problems got called to the alpha’s office, similar to the principal's office while in school.
“Are you okay, Jamie?”
Dr. Pierce’s voice alerts me to her presence before I lift my head to see her.
“Yes ma’am. I’m just heading to a meeting with Alpha Black.”
I try to sound confident in my statement but know that I have failed miserably.
She nods her head without moving from her position in front of the stairs. I take another deep breath and force myself down the hall, knocking lightly on alpha’s slightly open door.
“Come in.” He calls out.
His voice is firm and serious yet sounds tired for it only being 3pm.
I hesitate to enter, taking several slow cleansing breaths, trying to steal my nerves for my coming punishment. I creep the door open and step inside.
“You wanted to see me, sir?”
“Jamison, yes sir. Grab the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign, hang it on the other side, then shut and lock the door. Take your shoes off and leave them with mine beside the door. There’s several things we need to talk about starting with your breaking of command.”
I lean my head against the door as I quietly close and lock it. While part of me screams to leave it unlocked another part of me is repeating the mantra that he’s not alpha Redmen.
My hand shakes as I push myself from the door. I can feel my heart in my throat, my panic welling up inside me causing me to gag and choke on my own saliva. I have never felt the need to break a direct command during a run and I have no idea if it’s a punishable offense or not. Just because the moon goddess doesn’t punish you for breaking a direct command doesn’t mean the alpha won’t. Alpha Redmen has made a point to enforce that quite brutally.
I stay at the door longer than I should after it’s closed, utilizing the deep breathing exercises the councilor at White Moon taught me.
“Jamie?” Alpha calls to me. His voice has softened slightly from when I first came in, he sounds almost concerned that I’m still at the door.
“I need you to come take a seat.” His voice has hardened again sending a shiver down my spine.
I push myself from the door and walk slowly to his desk. I take the chair in front of the desk and push it back making room for me to stand in front of the alpha with my gaze cast downward.
“This would be a lot easier on you if you take a seat.” Alpha’s voice is hard and commanding, forcing me to step back.
“Nothing will make this any easier.” I whisper just loud enough for him to hear.
“What makes you believe that?” I can hear him shuffling the papers he’s working on off the desk, clearing the center.
“Getting punished for doing nothing wrong is always difficult.” I struggle to get out past the lump in my throat.
“Obviously you’ve done something wrong or you wouldn’t be here would you?”
Somehow he’s starting to take on the very callous and mocking tone that Alpha Redmen uses to amp up my anxiety before he forces me to submit across his desk.
“You don’t consider breaking command after a brawl occurred doing something wrong?”
“Not when lives were at stake, alpha.” I keep my head bowed and my voice monotone as I answer in the hopes that he’ll reconsider.
“Why didn’t you call me?”
“I had Micayla call you on my phone several times while I was in the link with him.”
“Why didn’t YOU call me?” He interrupts me while emphasizing ‘you’ this time.
“The link causes Cole pain. It’s even worse when he has a head injury. I had to concentrate solely upon the link so I could get the information that he needed to give as quickly as possible before he passed out from the pain.”
“Why didn’t you run over to the pack house and get me like you did when he blacked out?”
“That would have still broken command, sir. His life and the life of your twins were at stake. I took a calculated risk to get to them.”
I’m starting to break down from the questioning and it’s easily heard by the pitch of my voice.
“There are no excuses for breaking command Jamison.”
His voice growls my name causing me to step back again but this time with a slight whimper.
“When I give a command it is to be followed without question.”
“But sir…”
“No.” He interrupts.
“But sir you….”
“No.” He does it again as he stands.
“Alpha, you told Andrew that your warriors are not drones. They need to be able to think on their feet.”
“In reference to his going along with his pack mates plan. I never said anything about my command, so now you will tell me what you receive from Alpha Redmen.”
“No. You’re not him.” I whisper in shock as my head lifts from the floor and my eyes grow wide.
“Yes, Jamison. When it comes to prospects I have a choice on punishment. I can follow my own rules or I can follow what the wolf is used to from their own leader. I’ve chosen to go with what you’ve received before so now I am commanding you to tell me your punishment.”
“No! I don’t deserve it!”
My anxiety is too high and I’ve lost control of my emotions.
“Yes you will!”
He growls back, stepping from in front of his chair. I watch horrified as he pulls a stiff, thin leather belt from on top of the filing cabinet next to his desk.
“No! I did nothing wrong! They would have died out there!”
I’m fighting back the tears blinding my sight as he makes his way from behind the desk towards me with the belt in his hand.
“You will tell me how many and with which end or your bare ass will receive however many it takes to make me tired!”
He takes another step towards me dissolving all the resolve I had to fight for what I know is right. I’m struggling to get to the door of his spacious office, mostly because of the tears and flashbacks blinding my eyes. I easily trip over multiple pieces of furniture in my effort to get to the door but I listened to the alpha and find it locked.
I yelp and scream, my fear is uncontrollable as he wraps his arms around me pulling me away from the door into the center of the room, the very same thing that happened when I got chained like Cole does.
I fight him blindly as he tries to turn me around. His strength is unmatched as he grabs my wrists. I can tell that we’re traveling. I just don’t have any hold on where I am in relation to the rest of the room until I find myself pinned against the wall.
My screams have yet to die down as alpha uses his body to stop my fight. I don’t give in so easily. I am determined not to be bruised and cut for saving their lives.
His arm slips easily around my waist before his other snakes across my shoulders. It’s his hand on my neck that tells me my fight is lost as I yelp and scream.
“Jamison, submit!”
His voice is commanding but confusingly gentle as he wraps his large calloused hand around the back of my neck.
“Stop your fight, let go of your fear and tell me. Tell me what he’s done to you.”
“I don’t deserve it! I don’t deserve the buckle end! I don’t deserve thirty to my bare ass, back and legs! No! I did nothing wrong!”
I’m blinded by the flash backs of being forced onto the desk by the beta, being held there by both the beta and delta as Alpha Redmen reigns his terror down on me.
Everyone comments about how it’s just a belt. How can you be so terrified of a belt? I have never told my story to anyone. No one who’s been on the receiving end of that belt multiple times without doing anything deserving of such punishment would never comment on it just being a belt. Not when your skin has been cut and bruised by the sheer strength he purposely puts behind it.
“Give into the submission Jamie. Lay your head on my shoulder.”
I’m still blindly trying to fight but Alpha Black cannot be budged. His rub on my neck is surprisingly soft as is his aura. My screams have died down enough that I’m able to come back to where I am and who I’m with.
