Chapter 244
“Have you ever figured out a pattern?”
He looks up from his mate’s shoulder.
“A pattern?” He sounds shocked that one might exist.
“Most humans and wolves alike tend to operate in a predictable manner. Have you ever figured out when he’s going to let you slide versus when he’s going to give you something worse?”
“The weeks that I’ve gone without punishment, no. I’ve never figured out the difference between those and the weeks that I get the standard thirty but it has only been when Cole has needed help every day during a week that delta is given specific instructions on his role in punishment.”
He manages to explain calmly.
“How many times has that happened?”
“For the most part I’m punished twice a month. The most I’ve gone without getting punished is three months and the most I’ve been punished is ten weeks in a row. The delta deviation has only happened twice.”
“Thank you.” I nod, genuinely appreciate his disclosure of how often these beatings are happening.
“I understand that you’re having a hard time excepting that you’re being abused and tortured but it is important that you understand that you are.”
“How can it be abuse? I was given a choice that neither Cole or Micayla has ever had. Cole is beaten damn near every day, within inches of his life nearly every month.”
“Every month?”
Now it’s my turn to be shocked at information I haven’t received yet. He closes his eyes and ducks his down onto Micayla’s shoulder showing me the shame in disclosing information that Cole has not told me of.
“I don’t think he’s ever been as close to dying as he was when he arrived here but alpha tends to get quite nasty at least once during the three months in between runs.” He finally states with a sigh.
“Runs are held back to back. Most prospects jump from one run to the next without a break.”
“Red Fang members usually get sent back three months into the run so we all have to wait three months before the next run begins.”
“Okay, that makes a lot more sense. Now, what about your father? Do you know how often he’s receiving punishment for helping Cole?” He shakes his head before explaining.
“Even though we take care of each other when it gets bad I don’t think he’s allowed me to help him every time he’s been punished. I think he had me help him in the beginning so I had the confidence I needed to help Cole. After about six months of practice on him he started having mom help. The mate’s bond reduces his pain a lot more than anything I can do though I can usually tell when he’s been for a visit with alpha. It doesn’t appear to be as frequent as mine but it is just as bad. He limps around for several days after his visits and it’s difficult for him to work even though he tries to push through the pain.”
“What about your mom or siblings?”
“Alpha won’t touch the girls or Jeremy. He is a stickler for only spanking the kids that are brought to him.”
“But that protection is gone when you turn 18.” He nods.
“Your siblings are now around ten, eight and six?” I question making a guess based on Cole’s age.
“Turning that this year, yes sir.”
“What about your mom?” He shakes his head this time.
“When we discussed it after he put me in the hospital for a week, dad made certain she understood that she was to stay out of it. Dad and I are the ones that will help him and accept the punishment helping him brings.”
I nod my head deep in thought for a moment.
“Has alpha ever punished you or your father during a week that you have not helped Cole?”
It’s the last but most important question I have regarding my request for their help.
“I have never been punished during a week that I did not help Cole.”
I sigh in relief that I am correct, Jamie and his father are only abused when they help Cole. Which means, hopefully, their abuse will stop once Cole leaves.
“I will be talking with Cole about any ideas he has about getting out of the territory. Based on what you just said, I do believe you and your family will not be in immediate danger once Cole leaves. Now, I will be putting things into play to insure that I have contact with you and your father.
Even though Alpha Redmen rejected an open transfer of you and your family to my territory that doesn’t mean I have stopped planning on your transfer. It’s just going to be a lot longer to put together. At the moment, until I have better information on a planned escape, I have been putting together care packs for you and Cole to take with you.
Cole’s packs will be secured with black zip ties and yours will be white so you know the difference but everything will be labeled as yours. I don’t want Alpha Redmen to get a hold of what I’m giving him. I need you to wait until you get home to open them as contact with you and Jon will be critical to getting him out. I will meet with you again once I’ve had a chance to talk with Cole and find out what plans he can come up with.”
He nods his head as he rubs Micayla’s hands.
“Are the two of you willing to join me for dinner?”
I smile as Micayla turns in Jamie’s lap, nodding with a smile on her face. Even though she fears me, it’s not her pack’s alpha that’s abusing her, not directly, making it easier for her to accept me.
“Sure. I’d like that.” Jamie speaks softly as I stand from my desk.
“I was hoping you would. I’ve got the cooks doing ribeye on the grill tonight.”
He nods with a smile as he helps Micayla off his lap. We all head to the door, Micayla opens it and all of us step into the hall more relaxed than when we went into my office. It only takes a few minutes for us to make our way to the table and join in with the family conversation.
