Chapter 105
The man paced the tarmac, his agitation grew with every second he had to wait for the mysterious stranger who had taken what was his. He had been able to delay his flight, but if he didn’t leave soon, he wouldn’t make the meeting with the other Alphas, his anxiety increased along with his fury. He turned around, to complete another circuit of his pace, and nearly marched into the man he was waiting for.
“Holy goddess! What took you so long? I’ve been waiting for almost an hour for you!” He growled; his hands instinctively formed fists.
“You are not my only mission but complete yours and what was taken will be returned to you.” The stranger smirked, irritating the proud Alpha further.
“Then get on with it! Tell me what I have to do and pray I never find you once it’s done!” He roared, as all his patience left him.
“My master needs one of the other Alphas removed before the coming war. Kill him and we will return what is yours and you will be permitted to live, once my master has dominion over the planet.” The smirking stranger announced, it gave the Lycan pause.
“Killing an Alpha, while surrounded by witches, and with other Alphas present will be impossible! How exactly am I supposed to accomplish this?” He asked, desperate to find another way out of his predicament.
“We don’t care how it’s done, just that it happens, or you will never retrieve what we have taken. You will know when the time is right, we will send you a signal even a simple animal like you couldn’t miss.” The stranger sneered; the Alpha sagged in defeat.
“Which Alpha do you want me to kill?” He asked, resigned to his fate.
“Alpha Daniel Summer.” The stranger remarked with a smile before he turned and disappeared from sight, leaving the Lycan alone to board his plane, his sorrow and despair were eating away at him.
Daniel POV
As we drove away from Jo’s house, I could feel Charlie’s emotions she was struggling with the information her mother had provided. I didn’t want to pry before we were alone, but now that we were, I couldn’t find the words, her emotions were making me dizzy and I still couldn’t understand why she was having so much difficulty believing she was a goddess. I couldn’t get a clear read, her emotions were bouncing and switching so quickly, by the time I figured out what one was she had already felt three more.
“Okay, we have to talk about what just happened before I run us off the road because your emotions are switching and changing so fast it’s making me seasick!” I snapped after another round of fluctuating feelings barrelled over me.
“I’m sorry.” She replied quietly, and I felt her guilt over her emotions affecting me, which made me feel terrible for snapping.
“You don’t need to apologise, it’s a lot for anyone to deal with. I just want you to talk to me, maybe I can help you feel better, or at least help you focus on one emotion at a time?” I replied, reaching out for her hand to comfort her. “Talk to me, please?”
“I don’t know what to say! I don’t know what to feel, I’m lost and confused, and terrified I’m going to let you down!” She suddenly blurted, which confused me further.
“Why would you ever think you would let me down? That shouldn’t even be a possibility, I should be worried about letting you down! You’re a goddess, I’m just a Lycan, what can I offer someone who is the granddaughter of the creator of everything?” I asked, only half joking.
“But that’s the problem, I’m not the granddaughter of anyone but a bitter old woman who has never even met me! I’m not a goddess Daniel, and I never will be!” She cried as she buried her face in her hands.
“Why is it so difficult for you to believe that you are a goddess? The moment your mother said it, it made sense, look at the way people respond to you, how much they love you! It is your divinity shining through!” I argued, saddened she couldn’t see that for herself.
“Because I’m not, and now that my mother has convinced you, when we eventually track down my father and he tells you he’s just something ordinary, or as ordinary as you can be in the supernatural world, you’re going to be disappointed! And I can’t stand the idea of you being disappointed in me!” She softly sobbed; it made my chest constrict painfully.
“If we find your father and it turns out he isn’t Ares, I’m not going to be disappointed... confused, angry that he lied to your mother when he could have left clues for you when your powers manifested, but not disappointed, and never with you,” I explained as best I could, I wanted to pull over and hold her, tell her everything would be fine, kiss her and comfort her, but we had to get to the airport if we were going to make it back in time for the meeting with the other Alphas.
“What about everyone else?” She quietly asked, which confused me even more.
“What about them?” I asked, hoping for some clarification.
“If we tell everyone what my mother told us, and it turns out to not be true... I will have to admit that my father was a con man who duped my mother into thinking he was a god and she fell for it! It would be mortifying, and then I’m going to have to tell her the same thing! Don’t you understand how awful that will be for her? She still thinks he’s coming back for her!” Charlie wailed, yo-yo-ing from extreme sadness to fury and back again.
“Who says we have to tell anyone? We could keep it to ourselves, at least for now. We will have to tell Hyacinth, but we will also tell her your doubts and concerns and explain we aren’t telling anyone else anything until after your birthday on Monday.” I replied, I was thinking out loud and clutching at straws to try and calm her down.
“You really think Hyacinth is going to take my worries seriously? You haven’t, not really. You fully believe I’m a goddess, and I’m going to be the one who sees that dream die in your eyes when you find out the truth!” She cried as she stared at her hands, and I felt her fear clearly for the first time.
“I wish I could explain to you why I’m so sure. It just makes sense to me; you are a goddess to me and always have been. I didn’t need your mother to tell me that, and regardless of if your father is a god or something else, you will still be a goddess to me. Always.” I said, I kissed her knuckles and prayed I had done enough to convince her, but from the doubt and profound sadness that came through the bond I knew I had failed, miserably. “Charlie, it doesn’t matter what you are, where your powers came from or who your father is, you are still my mate, the most beautiful woman in the world and the person I want to spend the rest of my life with... do you still feel the same way about me?” I asked softly, her head snapped up out of her hands, exactly as I knew it would, as she stared at me dumbfounded by my question.
“Of course, I do! I love you; nothing can change that!” She said in that cute voice that was almost begging me to believe her and made my pants tight every time she did it.
“So, believe me when I tell you the same thing, please?” I asked, taking my eyes off the road to check she had heard and understood me.
“Okay...” She whispered, and I felt a different emotion through the bond.
“Ahem, Charlie?”
“Yes?” She asked in her most innocent voice, which made it even more difficult to concentrate.
“What just happened? Because the change in your mood is... how can I put this? Having a physical effect on me that isn’t conducive to driving!” I growled lowly and tried to adjust myself.
“I wasn’t the one who was thinking about anything other than what my mother told us, then out of nowhere someone got a little hot and bothered and now all I can think about is being naughty!” She teased, she moved closer to me, her big bouncy tits brushed against my arm as her lips grazed my neck.
“Charlie, please? I can’t focus on the road when-” I couldn’t complete my sentence as she was sucking on my earlobe, draining my mind of any thought other than her, for a few seconds. “Fuck! Charlie, if you keep doing that I’m going to crash, please? For your safety, please behave until we get to the plane?” I begged, my erection was becoming painful, and every exhale of her breath fanned my mark, cracking my resolve.
“Only if you tell me what got you turned on in the first place.” She breathed against my neck; her hands moved down my chest.
“Arrggg! Fine, it was that cute begging voice, whenever you do it, I can help but picture you begging me to throw you down and fuck you until you can’t walk! Okay?” I groaned; the tips of her fingers were on my waistband.
“Okay, I’ll behave.” She said then she leaned back in her seat and put her seatbelt back on.
“You are an evil woman, and the moment we are in the air I’m taking you into that bedroom and punishing you for teasing me!” I growled in the way I know she likes, I relished the little thrills of anticipation I could feel from her.
“Promises, promises!” She murmured back, which drove me crazy, it made me want to pull over and spank her sweet little ass right then and there, and by the smirk on her face, I knew she could feel my desire too.
