In The Beginning, Chapter 135

I rinsed off the mud my body had collected on my run, drying quickly and threw on a pair of shorts from the laundry, and slowly made my way to the stairs, delaying and fighting against my own resistance until I was outside the bedroom door. I could hear her and Hyacinth giggling, and talking about clothes, Charlie was still cooing over something when my knuckles rapped on the wood.
“Is it safe to come in? Or should I go wait in the guest room?” I teased, the door yanked open quickly, Charlie's happy face in the now open doorway, looking at me with a carefree smile.
“I’m so glad you’re back.” She smiled, kissing me softly. “But we are nearly done, why don’t you go find something for lunch?” She asked but her arms snaked around me until we were holding each other tightly.
“I can do that, you two enjoy a moment alone.” Hyacinth offered, getting up from the same chair Theia had been sat in a few hours earlier. I stepped into the room, taking Charlie with me so Hyacinth could pass. The second I heard the click of the door closing Charlie pulled my face to hers, stealing my breath and my lips, in a kiss that had me instantly hard and needing more. “Charlie?” I linked, pulling back to look into her eyes, she shocked me by jumping, and wrapping her legs around my waist.
“We are playing at being sexually frustrated remember, and they’re listening!” She linked, her lips moving down my neck.
“Whose playing?” I asked, my fingers squeezing her ass as she skirted the edges of my mark, letting the tension build. “I only have so much control.” I growled, the way that makes her shiver, I could smell her arousal on the first inhale of her sweet addictive scent. “I want to tie you up and fuck you until you beg me to stop. Until I’ve given you so much pleasure you can’t take anymore.” I accidentally said aloud, her bewitching mouth dulling my senses and body to anything but her.
“Promises, promises.” She teased as I walked us to the bed, and spread her out on it, kneeling on the mattress between her legs. I ran my hands up her arms until our fingers met, trapping her under my chest as our lips connected and I shifted my weight to my elbows.
“I would never break a promise to you kitten.” I whispered in her ear, between kisses to her jawline that made her pant.
“I know.” She replied, her voice breathy and barely audible.
“I would do anything for you.” I swore, I needed her to know, if I got hurt or worse, it would be worth it to keep her safe.
“Just promise you will do everything you can to come back to me.” She demanded, her body going stiff, she was going to fight every reaction she had to me until I agreed, I couldn’t help but smile.
“I promise, I swear, I will make it a vow, or an oath, whatever you want, because I will do everything I possibly can to have a long happy life between your thighs.” I teased, then I left a hickey on the exposed part of her left breast, groaning lasciviously as I did until she was giggling and trying to wriggle away from me. She somehow freed her hands and managed to get them to my shoulders before pushing herself further onto the bed and away from me. My wolf pounced after her immediately, growling playfully as he leaped across the bed, she fell off the opposite side with a bump and a squeal as she narrowly missed being grabbed. She had scrambled to her feet as my wolf did the same, landing inches away from each other with matching grins. The atmosphere changed as I silently memorised the flush to her cheeks, the easy smile that brightened her entire face, like it was actually luminous. I reached out to her, my fingers slipping into her hair as I pulled her closer, meeting her in the middle because otherwise it would take too long. Like the addict I am, I couldn’t go long enough without a hit of her, to tell her everything that was burning me from the inside, even though I still couldn’t find the words. How do you express the darkness and despair that comes with just thinking about losing the person you live for? Or that every time I felt the panic, like I’d been thrown overboard in the middle of a storm, her touch calmed the raging waters so I could catch my breath?
“Daniel!” She moaned, dragging me from my thoughts as my lips attacked any exposed skin, occasionally nipping her with my teeth playfully, her breath grew heavier as I concentrated my attention on the areas, I knew she liked. She was dragging her nails across my scalp, pulling me further under her spell, until her soft sighs and moans, were all I could hear, everything but the heady scent of her arousal faded, until I couldn’t identify anything but her. Every sense I possessed became useless around her, until there was nothing but her. “We need to stop.” Even through the link her voice wavered, and her fingers drew me closer.
“I don’t want to.” I growled, as I wrapped my lips around the mark closest to them and sucked until she was moaning loudly, and blushing adorably.
“Daniel?” She tried to pull away, mockingly admonishing me, her arms that had been pushing me away gripped onto my shoulders as I slid a hand down the front of her pants. “If you don’t stop now, you will be too late when you will have to stop later.” She reminded me. “We should go see what Hyacinth has done to the kitchen.” She sighed aloud, as my hand reluctantly retreated, my bad mood returned, seeing this she instantly closed the growing gap between us, taking my face in her tiny hands. “When we get married, I want a month-long honeymoon, somewhere there’s not much to see, or do... so I don’t feel like I missed out when we spend the entire time in our hotel room, ordering room service and making up for all the alone time we’ve missed.” She surprised me by stating, an eyebrow raised, almost daring me to say no.
“Anything my queen wants; I will do everything in my power to provide.” I couldn’t help but smile at the triumphant look on her face as she led me towards the door. “If Ben, or Appletree, or the pack can’t do without us that long-” She began back peddling.
“I will tell you, and we will think of a solution together.” I interrupted, as she tucked herself under my arm, once we reached the bottom of the stairs.
“I would be very happy with two weeks.” She insisted as we headed for the kitchen.
“I know baby.” I chuckled. Hyacinth had made a spread reminiscent of the ones we shared in her home by the time we joined her, Charlie helped with the last of the food, while I made us both coffee, Hyacinth already had a teapot “brewing” ... apparently.
“You both seem in better spirits now.” She commented to Charlie, her critical eyes raking over our appearance with a look I couldn’t decipher.
“It’s been difficult to feel like we are alone, with a house full of wolves... with exceptional hearing.” Charlie replied bluntly, which made Hyacinth release a dirty chuckle. I don’t know what amused me more, Hyacinth, or Charlie’s reaction.
“Yes, I remember it well.” Hyacinth chuckled in comradery, as the last of the dishes were added to the table, and I joined them, handing Charlie her cup with a smile.
“My new goal in life is to make Hyacinth laugh like that at every chance I get.” She linked me as I took a sip of my drink, nearly choking on it in surprise, so I ended up guffawing extremely unattractively, while she looked proud of herself. Hyacinth’s eyebrows couldn’t have gotten any higher without a facelift, as she awaited an explanation, while I was still wiping coffee out of my beard. “I get a great amount of joy from saying inappropriate things that make people surprised when they laugh.” Charlie explained taking her seat and placing things on both of our plates, while I tried in vain to clean myself up.
“Half of my coffee is on my shirt.” I complained, mostly in jest.
“Just grab a fresh one from the laundry room and come sit down. You have to eat.” She insisted.
“How come that doesn’t work on you when I say it?” I asked as I walked into the laundry room, I threw my stained shirt into the machine and grabbed a clean one that hadn’t been ironed but was clean at least. Things seemed to be rapidly falling apart without the rest of the pack, my eyes had been opened to all the little things I took for granted when someone else was doing them for me. Although Charlie found it hilarious when I dragged Kasa and Lander with me to put the trash out the morning before. She had also pointed out that anywhere else in the world the garbage men wouldn’t have knocked to wake us up (they linked, but I got her meaning) or stuck around for what would typically be one or two people to run all of their trash to the curb. When I climbed back into bed after making us both a latte, she was close to tears, as none of us in our panic had put on clothes, or even shoes, Lander and I were both in our underwear, Kasa was in a pair of pyjama pants and nothing else. She had watched what she could from the windows as we hauled the trash containers to the end of the driveway, where they were waiting. They were omegas, who had volunteered, they had even gone to the neighbourhoods they were due to pick up, the night before to put out the trash cans from the empty houses, they assured me as they emptied my own. When I told Charlie about it, she had smiled so proudly, it took me a moment to realise she was proud of me, and lengths the pack was willing to go to. Our lunch with Hyacinth was the distraction I needed, she kept us entertained as the minutes ticked away, time almost seemed to be speeding up the closer we got to sunset. Before I knew it, Charlie had disappeared upstairs to change into “something warmer" while I paced by the front door waiting for her, my anxiety seeming to increase with every second. Until she slipped her hand in mine, and tilted her head back for a kiss.
“Make it a good one.” She whispered with a smirk as my free hand slipped into her wild, beautiful hair. I surprised her by spinning us around, so her back was pressed against the door, her hands landed on my chest as she steadied herself, despite my arm around her waist, holding her steady. I pressed my body against hers as our lips connected, a slow but passionate kiss. She ran the tip of her tongue along my bottom lip, deepening the kiss until we were panting, inhaling each other's exhales between devouring each other, relishing the taste of her.
“Approximately fifty vampires just crossed the border.” The signal we had been waiting for interrupted us.
