In The Beginning, Chapter 87

Daniel was even more attentive than usual as we bathed, he had been a little rough, nothing I couldn’t take, however, he seemed to need to express his softer side afterwards. While we were still discovering what each other needed in the form of aftercare, it was obvious part of it for Daniel was reassurance. It took us twice as long as usual in the shower thanks to Daniel’s affections, and I was beginning to worry we would be late.
“How long was I out earlier? Do you know what time it is now?” I asked, as he wrapped me in a towel, and left kisses along my shoulders.
“We have plenty of time.” Was all he said as he led me to the sinks.
“You know I do much better when I have an exact figure to work with.” I grumbled, and he let out a surprised wheezing chuckle, that sounded almost like an amused bark to me.
“You have about three hours, okay?” He laughed, his hands running over my arms, like he had something to tell me, but didn’t want to. “I have to get down to the meadow, Hyacinth, my mother and Theia have decided you are having your Luna ceremony tonight.” He explained, with a smile, kissing my cheek, as he tried heading out of the bathroom.
“What do you mean they decided? What about me? What about the pack? Don’t we get a vote?” I cried slightly indignant that they had made such a big decision for me, and the pack.
“Who do you think has been helping them with their nonsense? Or have you really not pieced it together, the books, my mother just randomly dropping off things she thinks you would be interested in? Kathy turning up early to make sure you eat, Kendra, Ms Michaels, half the pack has been down there decorating since you finished training.” Daniel chuckled, leaving me too stunned to speak. “And... they invited Oaktree and Sycamore to join us. The plan was for everyone to return to their packs for the day anyway, but after you let Hyacinth know, you wanted to try and put up a barrier...” He waved his hand in defeat, “They talked me into it, it is the safest place for everyone, and I couldn’t ask you to attempt the whole state... but we could make room for everyone.” He looked so uncomfortable I almost felt bad for him.
“I thought we were waiting for the Spring Equinox?” I asked, curious how they had got Daniel to agree to moving it up.
“You need the pack link if there is an attack, you lose precious seconds linking me, so I can link the warriors to protect you. You will need that time sooner or later, and I will not have my men arrive too late because you couldn’t reach them.” He insisted, his hands continuously caressed me, like he needed the comfort of it, as he almost begged me to understand.
“I wanted more time to prepare.” I whispered, trying to remain mildly annoyed and not fully pissed off.
“They roped your mother into it...” He finally admitted, and it all made sense.
“She insisted it be a surprise?” I asked, nodding my head resigned to my fate.
“Yeah... she and Maria will be here soon to help you dress.” He said as he hurried away, leaving me alone in the bathroom.
“Coward!” I called after him, as I heard him grab some sweats from the draw and head out of the bedroom.
“LOVE YOU TOO!” He called back, laughing as he left the house.
Slightly confused, and bewildered, I saw hanging on the back of the bathroom door was a garment bag, I unzipped it and saw the perfect dress. When I thought we were having it in the spring, I would freeze wearing it in the middle of winter, even with my powers to warm me. I took the dress down, and walked into the bedroom, laying on the bed, was a beautiful silver cape, with the softest lining, and a pair of elbow length lined gloves silver gloves. I giggled when I saw them, and suddenly excited for the first time, I placed the dress on the bed beside my other items and started a playlist as I began getting ready.

The afternoon flew by, my mother and Maria fussed over my hair and makeup and cooed and made all the right noises as I got dressed. They helped me place my hood over my hair, and straightened my train one final time, before they left, and I had to wait for the clock to chime before I could leave. I had been reading everything Hyacinth and Miranda could find on the Luna ceremony, so I was quietly confident that I wouldn’t humiliate myself or Daniel too badly. The clock finally alerted me it was time, as I pulled open the large wooden front door, I saw a silver carpet, trailing down the garden to the meadow. I walked with my head held high, I had to be proud, and not cower, but not look down my nose either, so I settled on a small smile, and looking ahead. I rounded the bushes and trees that hide the entrance and gasped at the magical sight before me. Hyacinth, or Theia had created tiny balls of lights, that were floating in the air above the guests, lighting up the dark meadow, it looked like thousands of fireflies were caught in an inky molasses. The silver carpet, ran from the top of the meadow to a small podium, that had been erected at the bottom, running through the guests, forming an aisle in the centre, like at a wedding. But unlike a wedding, there was no music to accompany my long walk to Daniel. I continued on, until I reached the end of the aisle, turning to look at Daniel properly, I broke into a huge smile. I nearly laughed when he tried to take a step towards me, and Ben had to put a hand on his chest to restrain him. He paused, but his eyes never left mine as I walked towards him. As I walked down the aisle, flowers lining either side of me bloomed, and glowed softly. I spotted Theia, my mother and Hyacinth sat at the front of the audience, the rest were the pack, everyone had come out to welcome me, and I smiled at all of them as I passed. The closer I got to Daniel, the more I could feel his desire, almost smell his arousal, and his eyes were burning into me. I walked up to Maria, who lowered my hood, then took my gloves. Unable to wait any longer, Daniel stepped forward, and offered me his hand so I could walk up the steps, my other hand, held my dress, and I saw his smile when he glanced down at my shoes. Miranda had chosen an impossibly high white stiletto that I refused to attempt to walk through the uneven ground of the meadow in. Instead, I wore white sneakers with a silver ribbon instead of laces. He led me to my spot before Richard, who was stood like a priest at a wedding, between us I smiled at him, unable to look at Daniel with the outrageously obvious ogling he was doing. Richard placed a crown of daisies and apple wood branches on my head, smiling at me proudly, before clearing his throat to begin.
“Do you, Charlie Phillips, promise to lead this pack with grace-“ Richard began.
“Yes, she promises!” Daniel snapped, and a flushed a deeper red.
“I have to say the whole thing as you well know!” Richard snapped back, to a chorus of giggles, which increased when Ben slapped the back of Daniel’s head.
“Stop ruining Charlie’s big moment!” He chastised his Alpha, who immediately felt guilty.
“I’m sorry,” He linked me, and I smiled at him. “Get on with it!” He said aloud to his father, I put my hand on his chest to reassure him, he placed his hand over mine, and lifted my fingers slightly to kiss the tips, before returning them to their place over his heart, to a chorus of awws from the pack.
“Do you, Charlie Phillips, promise to lead this pack with grace? To be mother to every pack member? To nurture them, and protect them, like our Blessed Mother Moon, watches over and protects us? Will you be her embodiment within our pack? Do you take responsibly to punish those that hurt this pack? And do you accept our Alpha as the other half of yourself, and your Alpha for the rest of the days the goddess blesses you with?” Richard asked me, I had been memorising the answer for weeks, so I took a deep breath, and looked in Daniel’s eyes, before turning to the pack.
“I, Charlie Phillips, by mating your Alpha, respectfully accept the role as Luna. Your Alpha is my Alpha, your pack, my pack. I will lead you, and love you, like my children, I will nurture, and protect you, and discipline you when necessary. I will do all in my power to embody the teachings of the great Moon Goddess and help the pack to live by her divine laws. I swear by blood.” I held out my free hand, and Richard made a small slice into my forearm, with a ceremonial knife, collecting the blood in a chalice like cup. Daniel held out his free hand, and was sliced by the same knife, his blood collected in the same cup. Richard handed it to Daniel, and he took our blood, dipping his finger in it, and let a drop fall on his tongue, he then brushed it over my lips. I took a deep breath, and licked, I felt my mind open, my connection to the pack snapped into place, and I could feel the presence of every wolf. A light seemed to appear around me, almost like a spotlight, and I turned in the direction it was coming from, confused. The entire meadow was silent, as there was no source, then they began to gasp in wonder. I turned to Daniel, hoping he could tell me what was happening, but he was staring at my head. “What is it?” I asked aloud, but Daniel appeared momentarily lost for words.
