Chapter 106

Charlie POV

I was awoken by Talia again after an eventful afternoon, or night depending on the time zone, with Daniel, our bodies still entangled and naked. He had kept his promise and punished me over and over until we both collapsed in exhaustion, but it was time for us to get up and get ready for the meeting with the Alphas. It was six in the morning in Ireland, we wouldn’t be landing for over an hour, and we would be leaving the airport and heading straight to Hyacinth’s, so we would need this time to prepare ourselves. This time when I opened my eyes, my body was covered by the sheets, I wasn’t sure if it happened naturally or if Talia had done it for my modesty, but either way I was grateful.
“Miss Charlie? Are you awake?” She asked me, and I realised I hadn’t responded to her since I had opened my eyes.
“Yes, yes, I’m awake... and just Charlie, please Talia,” I replied, sitting up slowly, to ensure the sheet stayed covering me.
“Would you and Alpha Summer prefer coffee now or after you’ve freshened up?” She asked as she moved back to the doorway.
“I think I might need mine now but give me a moment and I will ask Daniel what he wants- oh!” I squealed as Daniel’s arm wrapped around me and pulled me back onto the bed.
“Sleep!” He groaned, only half awake, his body responding to my movement away from him.
“But we have to get up!” I giggled, then placed a soft kiss on his lips. “We have a meeting to prepare for.” I sang, teasing him a little as I brushed the hair off his forehead.
“Hmph,” he griped, “no, I’m not ready yet! I need more time with you naked!” He grumbled, which made me giggle, and thankful Talia had left the room.
“I will still be naked, but with coffee, and I still need to shower before we land.” I offered, secretly enjoying his arms around me. The mention of a shower had him lift his head, finally waking, and smiling.
“I wonder if the shower is big enough for two?” He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively, it increased my laughter as his hands explored my body, as if he didn’t have every inch memorised.
“I suppose we will find out,” I replied through my chuckles, I kissed him again, let it deepen, as he pulled me closer. Talia’s knock on the door interrupted us and earned her a small growl from Daniel.
“I’m sorry to interrupt Alpha, but I have Mi- Charlie’s latte, would you like yours now or-?” She nervously asked. I slapped Daniel’s chest warning him to be nice, as I struggled to remove myself from his grasp and sit up to take the coffee from Talia.
“It’s fine Talia, thank you and he will have his now please,” I replied, as I secured the sheet and took my first sip of glorious caffeine. She nodded and quickly left the room, and Daniel grumbled, as he got out of the bed and headed into the bathroom naked. I took the opportunity to check my messages, my phone was on charge next to the bed where I had left it several hours earlier, and the smile on my face refused to leave as images from the night before flashed in my mind. My fingers played with the new ring on my finger I hadn’t gotten used to.
“What has you smiling like that? Should I be jealous?” He asked, when he returned to the bedroom and climbed back under the sheets with me.
“Hmm, that depends if you’re jealous of tall, dark, stunning men, who are exceptionally good in bed.” I teased, as I took another sip of my coffee.
“If you aren’t talking about me, we are going to have an issue here.” He replied dryly, I couldn’t help but guffaw and nearly spilt the hot drink on myself, he removed the cup from my hands, kissed my cheek, and pulled me back onto his chest. I recovered quickly, determined to enjoy the last moment of peace I could see us having for a while, as I listened to his strong steady heartbeat.
“So,” I asked, “are there any rules, or regulations or whatever I should know about an Alpha meeting before I go to one?” I retrieved my latte and sipped it greedily.
“You aren’t coming to the meeting,” Daniel replied dismissively, which shocked me, and hurt my feelings a little.
“Of course, I am, what are you talking about?” I replied, confused.
“It’s not safe for you, not with Eric Whitehead there, you know this! It was decided, you will be staying with Dermot.” He stated, I could feel his resolve and his fear through the bond.
“I thought that was only an issue because we weren’t marked, now that we are, why can’t I stay with you?” I asked, I didn’t like his fear of that man.
“I don’t want him even knowing you exist, not yet. Please, I won’t be able to think straight if you are in the same room as him. And I need to concentrate at this meeting, I need to convince them of everything we know, and that won’t be easy, so please Charlie? Stay away from the meeting, stay with Dermot, and stay safe. I will link you every hour to let you know what is happening, I promise.” He said seriously.
“How? I have no idea how to link you!” I replied with scorn, we both knew full well I wouldn’t be able to link him no matter how hard I tried.
“We are connected now, through our marks, a part of me is in you, as a part of you is in me. It’s all I will need to open a link, here we will try now.” He said, he looked at me intently. “All you have to do is accept it.” He said aloud, as he stared into my eyes. “Please Charlie? You have to trust me on this?” His voice suddenly announced in my head, I gasped in surprise.
“How is this possible?” I thought to myself, but Daniel answered it anyway.
“We don’t know why we have it, or how. It’s said it was a gift from the moon goddess, the ability to talk to each other in both of our forms.” He replied silently, he smiled at me like I had performed a miracle. “Not a miracle, but I am always astounded by how quickly you pick things up, and how talented you are, you’d think I’d get used to it.” He said with a chuckle, still inside my mind, I hadn’t noticed Talia had entered until he broke the connection and retrieved his coffee from her. I smiled at her, as she left, but I still couldn’t grasp how we could communicate without words. I knew Daniel could, he had explained it as best as he could, but it was still a shock to hear his voice inside my head.
“Alright, I will stay with Dermot,” I said finally, and I felt the relief that flooded him through the bond. “It’s going to take me a while to get used to that,” I said absentmindedly, I felt his confusion and realised I had said it out loud. “Feeling what you’re feeling, it’s disorientating, and hard to separate your feelings from mine,” I explained.
“Soon it will feel perfectly natural, or that’s what my parents always told me,” Daniel replied. “The same for linking, we get it the same time we get our wolves, but we can’t link anyone but our immediate family before we join the pack, which every young wolf has to do. So, I know how disorientating it can be.” Daniel explained as we sipped our coffees.
“We’ll see,” I replied drily, as I shifted slightly in his arms. “But, if I’m not going to be at the meeting, when are we going to tell Hyacinth about what my mother said? And how will you explain my vision?” I asked, I needed as many details as possible to feel safe while away from him.
“We have to go to Hyacinth’s first, we will explain what we can, and then Dermot will collect you, and have you away from the cottage long before the other Alpha’s arrive.” Daniel started thinking out loud, working things out as he tried to calm my anxieties and his own. “As for the vision, saying Hyacinth was the one who had it is safest for everyone I think.” He said, he nodded his head as if he had decided.
“Is it safest for Hyacinth?” I asked, worried about her taking on the responsibility for what I saw.
“None of the Alphas would dare lay a finger on her, it would mean a war with the witches, one they might not win,” Daniel said gravely as he planted a kiss on my hair, I couldn’t tell if it was for his comfort or mine, but I didn’t want to think about it, I just wanted to enjoy his arms around me before I had to leave them.
