In The Beginning, Chapter 77

Charlie POV

I woke up to weak winter sunlight creeping over my pillow, even before I opened my eyes, I could feel the frizzy tangled mess, that used to be my hair. I groaned slightly as I lifted my arm to attempt patting down the seemingly ever-expanding mass.
“Are you alright? Did I hurt you?” Daniel’s concerned voice asked from the doorway. I felt my cheeks heat as memories of the night before flittered past my eyes. How we made love for what felt like hours, how gentle and tender he was, whilst simultaneously devouring me with a passion that burned away every other thought and sensation. My skin still tingled from the hot kisses he had branded onto almost every inch. A memory of me sucking on his fingers as he kissed me from my wrist to my neck as our hips maintained a slow steady rhythm, came to the forefront of my mind. My mood turned sour when I was reminded that I should have been doing my hair, rather than indulging in mind altering sex. I realised I hadn’t answered Daniel when he sat next to me, placing my coffee on the bedside table. “Was I... too rough? Or-”
“NO! No, Daniel, no you didn’t hurt me, I’m sorry. I just didn’t do anything with my hair and now it’s a mess.” I explained sitting up properly and wiping the sleep from my eyes.
“It’s not that bad.” Daniel chuckled as he disappeared into the bathroom, re-emerging with my hairbrush. “Scoot down.” He instructed as he climbed into the bed behind me, he got me into a position he liked and handed me my coffee before he set to work. In less time than I think it would have taken me, Daniel had my hair untangled, and tamed into an intricate braid. I hadn’t even finished my latte.
“Where did you learn to do this?” I asked, admiring the design.
“My dad, he taught me and Ben how to do it using my mother as a model...” He admitted hesitantly.
“It’s beautiful, thank you.” I kissed his lips softly in gratitude, his hands moved over my skin as he pulled me closer, deepening the kiss. Another memory flashed across my mind, but I wasn’t sure if it was mine or Daniel’s as his tongue licked the seam of my bottom lip. In my mind, the memory of him licking droplets of water off of my spine between hot wet kisses on my skin as he took me from behind, made my pussy pulse with desire. He angled my head as his lips moved over my jaw and down my throat, adjusting me so he had unfettered access to whatever part of me he wanted. I bit back a moan of need as I felt my excitement spread down my thighs, my breathing little more than pants as he pushed me down onto the mattress. His thumb ran over my lips as his mouth lavished attention on my breasts and his hips moved against mine, then froze.
“This had better be fucking important.” He growled, abruptly climbing off the bed and leaving the room, a second later I heard someone at the front door. “We need to get dressed; Hyacinth is here.” Daniel’s gruff and irritated voice informed me through the link.

As it turned out, Hyacinth was at the airport, she had tried calling Daniel’s cell phone, and when she couldn’t get him, called Appletree. Ben had sent a Towncar to pick her up, and a warrior to warn us, which gave us time to get dressed and ready before she actually arrived, although nothing could have prepared me for the amount of luggage she had. As the car pulled up outside, Hyacinth was in the front seat, beside the driver, as the back seat was crammed with various cases. Daniel opened her door with a smile as the driver began unloading everything.
“Hyacinth.” Daniel said congenially. “What a wonderful surprise!”
“It’s hardly a surprise Daniel, I did say it would take me about a week to get things settled in Ireland.” She said, accepting his hand. “Charlie, how lovely to see you again!” She exclaimed, giving me a warm hug.”
“It’s so good to see you!” I replied, turning to lead her into the house.
“The pack house is beautiful Daniel, my Thomas would have loved it.” She said softly as she admired the building. Oh, listen to me prattling on, when we have business to discuss. I have reached out to several packs who trust me across Europe, I have notified the entire druid community of the UK, and I have sent an urgent plea to the Alliance on our behalf. I have also been corresponding with a very interesting nomadic group, who are descendants of a both nymph and fae coalition that fled religious persecution of the Catholic church during the Spanish Inquisition, and I have a sent Dermot and Siobhan on an extended tour of a few cities I believe could house hidden communities I unfortunately don’t have contacts in. What about you?” She asked earnestly as she allowed Daniel and I to lead her inside.
“Well, the warriors from Kasa and Landers arrive today, ours left this morning, Ben and Maria leave tomorrow to talk to the other packs, and we have been dodging attacks pretty much since we left Ireland,” Daniel admitted, and I could feel his guilt over having not achieved much since we saw Hyacinth last.
“Hmm, I did wonder... It would make sense to keep you on your toes, unable to plan anything because you are constantly under attack. Death by a thousand cuts, but to the pack... Have you thought anymore on what we talked about?” She asked Daniel pointedly, and I saw him squirm uncomfortably.
“I’m not doing it, there is nothing to discuss, nothing to think about. Drop it.” He snapped, uncharacteristically of him when dealing with Hyacinth at least.
“Not doing what?” I asked, and I saw Daniel wince, he didn’t want me to know about whatever it was.
“It’s nothing, a moot point, because it is unnecessary.” He said softly to me, brushing a loose curl behind my ear. “And even if it wasn’t, someone else could do it!” He growled at Hyacinth before storming into the kitchen, leaving us just outside the living room.
“I-I-” I stammered, looking at Hyacinth, rendered completely speechless by his reaction.
“It’s alright, I knew it was a touchy subject... He does not like the idea of destiny, and as such is struggling to accept his.” Hyacinth declared cryptically.
“What the hell does that even mean?” I asked, dejectedly. She wrapped her arm around my shoulders sympathetically.
“That he loves you so much, he is willing to battle fate itself to keep you happy, and by his side.” Hyacinth smiled, patting my arm affectionately.
“I’m just going to check on him quick, take a seat... can I get you something?” I asked, a little distracted.
“I would love a cup of tea when you get a moment.” Hyacinth replied, I nodded as I followed Daniel. Kathy was in the kitchen when I entered, already filling the kettle with water for Hyacinth’s tea she pointed to the laundry room. I pushed the door open, to see another door ajar just inside the room, gingerly, I pressed forward, until I heard Daniel grunt with effort. Without hesitation my legs took me to him, he was punching a heavy bag that was swinging precariously under his powerful blows, only resting when I ran my hands over his tight biceps.
“Talk to me, please?” I whispered against his back; his shirt was hanging limply off another piece of equipment nearby. A fine sheen of sweat clung to his torso as my fingers trailed over his skin, his hands caught my wrists, and spun me, so we were face to face.
“Do you trust me?” He whispered against my neck as his nose inhaled my scent greedily.
“Yes.” I replied as his fangs scraped my skin.
“Do you believe you are the most important person in this world to me?” He asked me through the link, his eyes catching mine.
“Yes.” I whispered, despite my ability to accept it as true, a part of me knew it, just like he was the most important to me.
“And nothing is worth losing you over? Not the pack, not Appletree, nothing.” He swore, the intensity of his gaze, the focus, sent a shiver down my spine. His grip on my wrists tightened slightly when I didn’t answer immediately, and I felt a little lightheaded inhaling his exhales in the small gym.
“Yes...” I admitted, and he sank to his knees in relief, clinging to my waist as he pulled me against his body, his mouth attacking any skin it could.
“I love you so much, Charlie. I love you.” He groaned into the link as his hands began caressing me.
“Daniel...” I moaned as I nearly got lost in his touch. “Daniel...?” I gently pushed him back. “Talk to me.” I breathed, as his arms encircled me, pinning me against him, he shot a look at the door before turning back to me.
“Hyacinth thinks we need a clearly defined leader for the army, which is true, but Kasa, Landers and I have already agreed.” Daniel began to explain via the link.
“The three Delta’s are going to complete, right?” I asked, trying to remember the little conversation the Alphas had engaged in on the plane back from Ireland.
“Yes, well she thinks her way is better, and she won’t drop it.” He huffed, as his nose dropped to my neck.
“And her way would be?” I prompted.
“For one of us to become the Lycan King, but there’s more at stake here than just me not wanting to. We made a treaty, my ancestors made a promise, an oath never to have another King, not after everything that was done to win the crown by Odin’s sons. I can’t break that, it would cause chaos, the nymphs would declare war, and we cannot afford to be fighting multiple enemies.” Daniel explained, and I thought both options over, trying to be objective, when his wolf deposited another key piece of information Daniel had omitted.
“But the King is the only one who can link everyone, if their Alphas’ accept him as their King, he could command the entire army.” I informed him of what I already knew.
