Chapter 92
I didn’t know what to do, a part of me wanted to play dirty and launch myself at him, to scratch him and pull his hair, for terrifying everyone over something so small, before kicking him between his legs and walking away. But another part of me wondered, if we didn’t listen to him now, would what he says could happen... actually happen? Could the future I saw become our reality? It was frightening enough to give me pause. I slid my hand into Daniel’s and sat back down, I would listen, but keep my distance. Daniel sat next to me, perched at the edge of his seat should he need to move quickly. The being took this to mean we were staying and with a nod, walked back to the table, and Hyacinth.
“When you and your Alpha complete the mate bond something will happen, I’m not sure what, I’m not able to access the moment, it’s protected, but I have seen both futures. In one you go see your mother, find out more about where you come from, and continue along the correct path. In the other, you don’t go to see your mother, you don’t get to stay with your mate, and the planet never recovers.” The being said as he sipped his tea.
“Okay, so why can’t you tell me about my family now? Avoid the first future altogether?” I asked a little annoyed at his demeanour and attitude.
“That future is not one I can guaranty will end in victory.” He said slowly, choosing his words very carefully.
“So, tell us what happens if I don’t listen to you, exactly,” I said, he had offered no proof I should believe him, or evidence he meant us no harm, and I wasn’t about to believe him without something other than his word.
“I can’t give you too many details, but I can say you are right to be wary of Eric Whitehead, if you don’t listen to me, he will find her, and he will hurt her.” The being said to Daniel. I felt his grip on my hand tightened, it was the only thing Daniel needed to hear, we wouldn’t be completing the mate bond until we could leave here at the earliest, but with only a week left in the month, we were running out of time.
“The woman I saw in my dream told me we had to complete the mate bond, or the war would happen, why should we believe you over her?” I asked I saw Daniel looking at me, but I kept my eyes fixed on the being in front of me.
“You’ve been having dreams?” The being asked enthusiastically. “What have you seen?” He asked, a greedy look in his eyes.
“She dreamed of the battlefield, a war, and a woman with violet eyes,” Hyacinth told him when I remained silent, I was struggling to decipher the feelings behind his questions.
“The woman, did she have hair of every colour?” He asked, eagerly.
“Yes... do you know her?” I asked hesitantly.
“A very long time ago I did, but I haven’t seen her in thousands of years. If she is appearing to you, she must have received part of the vision, but not all of it...” He started pacing, and muttering to himself, before he abruptly stopped, his eyes wide but unfocused, and glowing with a soft lavender haze. He remained still for several seconds, while we stared at him, speechless, excited and scared all at the same time. Just as suddenly he snapped out of whatever daze he was in, and he sprang to life. “Yes, she was right, you have to mark each other by the end of the month, or whether you go to visit your mother or not, the future will be the same.” He said defeated, stumbled back to his seat and looked a little pale.
“Okay, so now that everyone knows that can we leave? I promise the morning after we mark each other we will go straight to my mother.” My face was flaming red with humiliation, and I wanted to be anywhere but there.
“No, I’m sorry child, but we have so little time, we need to find out as much as possible about your powers before the Alphas get here,” Hyacinth said, while she picked out an English muffin.
“Just ask him, he knows, don’t you? You could tell us everything. Like where my dad is? What he is? Who the violet-eyed woman is? You know it all, so just tell me.” I almost begged, I hated that he had all the answers about me but refused to explain.
“I know the name your father used when he met your mother. I could tell you that, I also know he isn’t on your birth certificate, that was for your protection. There are entities who don’t like your father, and if they had found you, neither you nor your mother would’ve survived the encounter.” The being said earnestly. It was true, no matter how many times I asked, my mother always evaded the question, I was twenty-six years old, and I had no idea what my father’s name was. The broken part of me that had always wondered if he left because of me, was desperate to know more.
“What do you mean entities who don’t like my dad? Is that why he left? To protect me?” I asked quietly, terrified by what his answer could be.
“And your mother.” He took a deep breath, as if deciding to tell me something against his better judgement. “There is an entity, and if he ever found out you were alive, that you exist, he would stop at nothing to end your life, because when the final battle happens, it will be you and your father against him, our uncle. The rest of us are inconsequential.” The being said almost pleading with me to believe him.
“I’m part vampire?” I asked devastated by this news.
“No, you’re not, but I don’t think I should say more, we are getting dangerously close to changing the future, and not for the better.” The being said, as he took a sip of his tea. “I’m sorry I can’t say more, in fact, I should leave before he tracks me here, none of you are ready for that confrontation yet.” The being said, getting up to leave.
“No, wait, please? Who bound my powers? How do I break the spell? What am I if I’m not part vampire, but our uncle is working with them?” Every thought I had came out in the terror that I would never see him again, and never get answers.
“I think it was one of our aunts, if it’s breaking down, it’s because it’s meant to, probably an age thing or something. Complete the mate bond, go to your mother, your powers will be returned, and you will get your answers. I must leave, he cannot find me again.” The being said, he kissed Hyacinth’s hand and moved towards the door. “I will see you soon.” He said to me with a smile, that I couldn’t decipher, but almost seemed familiar, before disappearing completely. I let out a huff of frustration and disappointment, as I realised, he was gone. I turned back to Daniel, having left my seat, almost to chase the being for answers, he could read the depression on my face. He stood and embraced me tightly, comforting me in his own way. The realisation that I would have to wait to find out more about my powers, and my father, until we could leave, finally hit me, as his amazing scent calmed me, and his strong arms made me feel safe.
“We can fly straight from here to your mother, I have a friend with a private plan that owes me a couple of favours. I’ll call him today, and have the plane ready the minute we are. I know it’s not the most romantic way to do this, but there are bedrooms on the planes we could use, or the hotel room before we leave?” He asked, I could tell he was uncomfortable, and so was I so I just kissed him instead, drowning myself in the blissful calm I felt whenever his lips were on my skin.
“I hate to interrupt my dears, I understand you’ve both had a lot of information and feelings to deal with, but we need to see what else you can do my dear. If we can establish what your strengths are, we may be able to predict more and help you control your powers when they are unbound.” Hyacinth said with a chuckle, as she stood and walked back towards the short corridor and the sports room. I needed a few more seconds with Daniel’s arms around me before I could cope with any more traumatic experiences at the hands of Hyacinth. I leaned in and I kissed him again.
“I was going to tell you everything tonight, after dinner, before we went to bed. I had a plan, I was going to ask you some more questions about how we would go about marking each other because I’m not completely sure I know what it involves.” I babbled nervously, afraid of him getting too excited but instead, he kissed my nose, it made me feel small and precious.
“I get it, you want to know more before you can feel comfortable, doing something new, and that you don’t fully understand.” Daniel surprised me by saying. “Ben had a word with me before we left, he pointed out that me asking to mark you without giving you a chance to understand what you’re signing up for or giving you the time to adjust to everything you’ve discovered and had to rethink since finding out about us, made me a bit of a dick. I’m sorry, I should have said it sooner, I just didn’t want you to think I was bringing it up to pressure you.” He said, unable to look at me, I pulled his lips towards mine again.
“Do you have any idea how sexy you are when you’re apologising and being so incredibly understanding?” I breathed against his lips as his breath hitched and his hands travelled up my back, and into my hair. I let his lips capture mine, as I pressed my body against his, I yearned for the clothes that separated us to disappear so I could feel his muscular form against my petite one. Our tongues danced together, and our need for each other built until we were dizzy from the endorphins running through our systems. Dermot cleared his throat and brought us back to reality.
“Hyacinth is waiting, for you. She isn’t accustomed to waiting for anyone.” Dermot said sounding worried, as Daniel and I clung to each other, our hunger for each other making us hesitant to leave the other’s arms, his eyes flashed between chocolate brown and amber the longer he smelled my arousal, and felt my resistance to letting him go, despite what his wolf could do.
“We need a minute,” Daniel said, his eyes bored into me.
“But-?” Dermot tried to ask.
“In a minute!” Daniel interrupted his breath increased as he fought to keep control, Dermot listened, left the room and closed the door behind him. “I don’t want to put any pressure on you, I know this timeframe is a lot to get your head around, but we still have time, we don’t have to decide –” I interrupted him with a kiss.
“I’ve decided, I want you, no one else, I want you to mark me, and I want to mark you,” I whispered, he growled, excitedly, and slammed his lips onto mine aggressively, one hand in my hair, the other wrapped possessively around my waist. I melted into him and tried to ignore the cold shiver of doubt that wanted my attention.
