In The Beginning, Chapter 53
Charlie POV
The twisted beings began swarming into the secluded area, Daniel rushed me away, calling out orders I couldn’t fully catch between the screaming, snarling and general chaos around me. Daniel pushed me between two sheds, roughly.
“Where is Bailey? Kyle? Anyone?” He demanded while I gripped onto him, barely able to comprehend he was still alive.
“We were attacked, at the store, I teleported after the vampire said they were going to take you. They’re still in the city.” I numbly mumbled, as he wrapped his arms around me, and checked me for injuries.
“Are you hurt?” He asked, I looked up at him, and screamed as one of the twisted beings was sailing through the air towards us, having scaled a nearby tree, and launched himself off it. My hands flew up to protect my face, and my power shot out of my hands, like I had swatted away a fly, he went sailing into another open area, only to be descended upon by wave after wave of wolves. They stormed the area, teaming up to tear the vampires to pieces. The children of Zeus and Apollo scattered at the sight of hundreds of wolves racing towards them, ripping their siblings and cousins apart, disposing of their creatures easily, as they came to our aid. I grabbed Daniel in relief, my breath rapid, as the adrenaline flooded my system. “It’s okay, we are all okay, no one was bitten.” He tried to reassure me, but his words brought the memories of his mother gasping for air to the forefront of my mind. I shuddered violently, as a sob tore its way free of my throat. He lifted me gently, as I clung to him, and took me inside, as tears freely flowed down my cheeks.
“Alph- where did... I mean, no serious injuries, a few scratches, couple of broken bones, nothing that will hinder training.” The man I recognised as Alex informed Daniel, up close he looked older than before. His dirty blonde hair was almost white at the temples, and although he was extremely muscular, his footsteps were silent. He looked like a very fit man in his forties, and his eyes were incredibly sharp, glancing around quickly, it was obvious from his posture and attitude, he was a warrior, and a skilled one at that.
“Make sure those that need to go to the hospital are ready for transport.” Daniel informed him, and he left the small office I was taking in for the first time. At first glance it looked like another shed, but it was the first one I’d seen with windows, albeit tinted, and hidden behind bars. I shivered again involuntarily as I realised how close we had all come to dying, my sobs the only sounds in the small but warm room. “Charlie?” He turned my chin so he could look in my eyes. “You need to release your power baby.” He said gently, brushing a hair away from my face.
“I have her Alpha.” I heard Theia’s voice, but when she tried to pull me away from Daniel I thrashed and fought. “Charlie! CHARLIE!” She screamed until I looked at her. “I am sorry I was late, I was alerted, but by the time I got to the location in the city, you were gone. You are in shock, and have used a great amount of power, you must release it and rest before you hurt yourself.” She spoke slowly, like I was an idiot, or a child, but it allowed me a moment to process what she was saying. Daniel softly turned my face to him.
“Go home with Theia, I will be there as soon as I have checked on the injured.” He repeated her slow speech, stroking my face gently. But when his words registered, I began panicking again.
“NO! NO, NO. NO, I have to stay with you! NO!” I grabbed onto him again, refusing to let go, Daniel gave Theia a pained looked, and she nodded. Suddenly I was floating again, surrounded by light, and then the living room at the pack house began to appear around me. “NO!” I screamed, when my feet felt the ground beneath them and my surroundings came into focus, I tried to go back, but Theia’s hands on me were keeping me where I was. “I have to go back; Apollo is only after him because of me!” I tried to shove her away, but she tightened her grip, forcing me to look at her face as she held me.
“They are gone, he is not in danger, it is over, for today at least. SO, YOU NEED TO RELEASE YOUR POWER!” She stated loudly, in my face, and I felt something move over me, like a cool sheet, it tempered my frazzled nerves, and racing heart and mind, allowing me to take a calming breath. “That is, it, nice and easy.” Theia cooed as she lowered us both onto the couch. “Now, release your power.” I heard her say, but she sounded far away, and my eyelids were so heavy, I released my power as I sank into the darkness, my body curling into the couch on my side as I was vaguely aware of something hard on my back.
I woke still on the couch, I looked down at the blood and dirt splattered dress confused as I tried to sit up, but I could only lift my head. I felt worse than when I had mono in the sixth grade, my whole body protested any movement, and my senses seemed sluggish as I could hear voices but couldn’t understand the words being said. I opened and closed my eyes a few times to get them to focus, and the voices started to make sense.
“How did they know where she was if you had protections on her?” I heard Daniel’s angry voice accuse someone.
“I don’t know, he must have a spy here.” Theia replied.
“Who? Can you find them?” Richard asked, and I heard someone sigh.
“I am not sure, but I will try.” Theia replied. “You said Charlie’s powers saved you?” She asked someone.
“Yeah, all of us, there was no way we were going to get out of there alive, they were too strong.” I heard Maria respond.
“She saved me from a bite, I wouldn’t have thought that possible before, but I could feel her power chasing it through my veins, pulling it out of my wound. Once she did that, and somehow stopped me from bleeding to death, my wolf was able to heal me, but without her, I would be dead right now.” Miranda explained, and everyone was silent for a few moments.
“She used far too much energy; she could have hurt herself if she hadn’t released her power when she did.” Theia sighed angrily.
“Hurt herself how?” Maria asked, and I felt the uncomfortable silence in my bones.
“She could have drained too much of her spark, she could have put herself in a coma. In order to maintain the balance, she might have exhibited the injuries she healed, or just stopped breathing, there are too many unknown variables to know for sure, but she will need a lot of rest, and plenty of food to restore her.” Theia insisted, and I heard some scraping of chairs, and grumbles, but all in agreement. “I will see what I can find out.” Theia said softly, it sounded like she was speaking to just one person, and then there was silence again. I tried to stay awake, but I was so tired, I slipped back into the darkness, without a word.
I woke again to hands on my body, the memory of Asclepius and the vile looks he gave me came rushing back, along with a word, “breeder”, I felt the panic rise again as I fought off the hands undressing me.
“NO! NO, NO, NO! DON’T TOUCH ME!” I screamed, scratching and fighting with everything inside me to keep my clothes on.
“Charlie, it’s me, you’re safe, it’s just me.” Daniel soothed as his face came into view. I threw my arms around him and cried myself unconscious once more.
I woke up in our bed, I glanced around unsure of what had happened as I brushed off the lingering effects of my nap. I could smell something wonderful coming from the kitchen. I was just inhaling the heavenly aroma when my memories came flooding back.
“Daniel?” I called through the link, praying he was close enough to hear me.
“You’re awake, I’ll be right there.” He replied, and I heard someone run up the stairs. “How are you feeling?” He asked with a smile as he rounded the doorway and sprinted across the room.
“I’m fine, how are you?” I asked concerned.
“Not a scratch.” He smiled capturing my lips in a bruising kiss that left me needy and breathless. “Now, do you want to explain to me what the hell you were thinking taking on three vamps and then teleporting all the way here?” He asked, a hint of anger in his voice, I felt like a little kid, being told off by my mother, all that was missing was the “young lady” at the end.
“I didn’t have much of a choice in the store, or teleporting, I heard you were in trouble and suddenly I was... I’m guessing the training grounds?” I asked, sneaking a peek at him, but he was still looking at me with that disapproving expression.
“I was fine, you don’t have to worry about me.” He sighed brushing my hair away from my face.
“Would that work if I said it to you?” I snapped, pissed off, I may have used a bit too much energy, but I had taken on three vampires, and killed two, healed Miranda and teleported, I thought I held my own fine.
“No, but I’ve been training for over twenty years, you’ve only had your powers a few days, you need to build up to using as much power as you did today.” He chastised, and I threw back the covers in anger.
“Sure, let’s just send a little note to Apollo and his minions. ‘Excuse me, all you nasty vampires, but it’s not fair to attack me before I’ve had a chance to build up some stamina, so if you could refrain from attacking us until I’m ready to kill you all and your leader, I’d really appreciate it, love Charlie’!” I mimed writing a note as I tried to escape the bed, only for him to keep placing the sheets back on top of me.
“That’s not what I’m saying, and you know it!” He snapped at me.
“Oh, for the love of- STOP TUCKING ME IN!” I ended up screaming in frustration.
