In The Beginning, Chapter 61

I opened my eyes to see Theia watching me intently, I slight blush of bashfulness coloured my cheeks at her focused gaze.
“How was it?” She asked with a smile, and I huffed at a loss for words, and picked up the glass of water, my mouth unbelievably dry.
“Amazing, tough, blunt, hard, and exhausting, but also gratifying and incredible.” I replied with a giggle, after downing half of the glass.
“Yes, Diana is a handful.” Theia chuckled in response and indicated for me to eat the candy bar.
“Athena was there too, they taught me a lot.” I sighed, still a little awestruck by the sisters, as I unwrapped the treat, and took a bite.
“Well, they are quite the team, the goddess of the hunt, and the goddess of strategic war, together they are quite the pair.” Theia chuckled. Our matching grins died when I heard the front door open, and Daniel returning.
“Charlie? I got the donuts!” He called, as he closed the door behind him.
“I’m in here with Theia!” I called back, although he probably knew already. He came into the living room and gave me a peck on the cheek, raising an eyebrow at the candy bar in my hand.
“We had a different kind of training today, the sugar will help replace the energy used, I will give you both a moment.” Theia explained as she stood, I opened my mouth to ask her to stay but she raised a hand to stop me. “I will return, shortly.” Was all she said before she shimmered away, leaving us alone.
“How was it?” I asked Daniel, as I pulled him onto the couch beside me.
“Awful, but necessary.” He replied, pulling me closer so he could bury his nose in my hair.
“Do you want to talk about it?” I asked him, the concern in my voice obvious.
“Maybe later... I’m not sure what to say, or how to deal with any of it right now.” He whispered, and I could feel his shame and confusion.
“Whenever you’re ready.” I whispered back, his hand tilted my face to his so his lips could reach mine, giving me a soft and loving kiss.
“Have you talked to Theia about the plan to uncover the spy?” He asked changing the subject, I could feel his need to think about something else, so I didn’t push.
“Not yet, I wanted you to be here for it... I want you to be as okay as you can be with what happens.” I tried badly to explain.
“Okay, we will talk to her together when she gets back.” He sighed as he held me close, the peace and comfortable silence enveloped us.

“Am I interrupting?” Theia’s voice brought us out of our silent embrace abruptly.
“No, not at all, we were just...” Daniel began but Theia raised a hand to stop him.
“It has been a while, but I still remember the solace a lover's arms can provide.” She said with a soft smile.
“We wanted to talk to you about the non-Lycan pack members. I have invited them here for coffee, initially it was just to find some ways around my lack of a wolf, but when I was talking to Daniel about it, he had an idea.” I began explaining as she came and sat on the couch.
“The non-Lycan members wouldn’t have such a strong connection to me, and we have none of their family histories to reference. They are mated to pack members, so we accept them without question, mostly, but what if one of them is the spy? It could explain how they are able to act despite the bond, especially if they were part vampire.” Daniel explained, while Theia looked slightly dazed, her eyes wide.
“Yes, that does make sense. Are all the non-Lycan members coming today?” She asked after a moments pause.
“No, I don’t think so, but I invited them all, and we were thinking the spy wouldn’t give up the opportunity to get close to me. Daniel will be listening from the office, monitoring their heartrates, while I will let him know my observations via the link.” I added.
“Hmm, I wonder if that is wise, should you suspect someone present. It may be better to make them believe you are alone, unprotected as it were. It may fool them into making a move, I could leave one of my spies here as back up?” Theia suggested as Daniel squirmed uncomfortable with the idea of me being bait.
“I agree, but Daniel has concerns.” I replied dryly.
“If the spy does come, and they find themselves alone with Charlie, what’s to stop them taking her? Or calling whomever they’re reporting to, to get her? There is too much we cannot control.” Daniel argued, shaking his head, refusing to relent. Seeing this Theia reached inside her many pink hued scarves and produced a small wooden box no bigger than a matchbook.
“She will never be truly alone; it will be an illusion.” She explained as she opened the box, inside was a small button sized black crystal. Theia placed it in her palm, and closed her eyes, her hands glowed a soft purple, before she opened them, revealing a small black moth where the crystal had been. “My spy will be my eyes and ears, and I can stay close, just in case.” I watched as the moth flittered its wings, before flying to the ceiling, perching itself with a view of the whole room.
“I’ll be fine, besides, Athena and Diana taught me some tricks to defend myself today.” I smiled at Daniel, but he still seemed hesitant.
“I will leave you to discuss it all, but I will be close, just call my name and I will be here, right next to you.” Theia said with a small pat to my knee as she stood and shimmered away again.
“I don’t like it, I don’t want you facing whoever this is alone. We don’t know what they are capable of.” Daniel argued once we were alone.
“I understand, but the more we learn, the better prepared we will be when we are attacked.” I urged him to accept the plan.
“What if I’m not quick enough to save you?” He asked the real question that had been eating at him.
“You will be, I trust you, trust me, please?” I practically begged.
“I do trust you, it’s everyone else I have trouble with.” He sighed, and I had to physically stop myself from rolling my eyes.
“Go to your office, and if you hear me say...” I had nothing, I could not think of one thing that would not be out of place but could alert Daniel to a problem. He huffed loudly and scowled.
“I was considering serving tea.” He said through gritted teeth.
“Huh?” I asked baffled.
“You hate tea, since Ireland, you look like you’re going to vomit whenever anyone mentions it. So, if I hear you say ‘I was considering serving tea,’ I know there’s a problem.” He replied, getting up off the couch and heading for his office.
“Daniel?” I stood and called after him, unsure of what to say. “Thank you for trying my idea...” I mumbled, embarrassed for stopping him leave when it was clear he wasn’t happy with me. He growled softly, like he was annoyed, and I couldn’t even look at him, I hated that he was angry with me, but I saw no other options.
“I love you, I’m angry that you have to be put in danger, again. You only just recovered.” He murmured against my skin, having made his way back to me with two giant strides of his legs. His strong arms enveloped me, one around my waist securing me to him, the other entwined in my hair and holding the back of my neck, angling me so he could run his nose over my mark while taking in my scent. The domineering display, the way the tip of his nose grazed my skin, the grip he had on me made me weak, my knees turned to jello as he pulled me closer so I could feel his erection through his pants. “I need you, Charlie, I need you healthy, and safe.” He confessed, pulling me deeper into his lust fuelled haze, his eyes stared at my mouth, his heavily lidded eyes betrayed his desires. His lips attacked mine, feverishly, nipping and sucking then invading my mouth with his tongue, it was the kind of kiss that leaves you breathless, light headed, and giggly from the heat of it. When our lips finally parted, I was putty in his hands. “Be a good girl for daddy,” he said lowly, “and don’t take any risks.” He added in the gravelly tone of his wolf, sending a jolt through my body to my pussy. He quickly released me, the sudden loss of his arms holding me up made me stumble slightly. “There’s a car pulling up.” He warned me as he disappeared into his office.
