In The Begining, Chapter 41

I woke in our bed; Daniel’s beard was tickling my skin as he kissed my shoulder and back.
“Wake up, you need to eat something.” He mumbled, his lips never leaving my skin.
“But it’s so soft and comfy and warm.” I whined, wanting nothing more than to sleep until I had to get up for work, at least tomorrow was Friday, my last early morning for a couple of days.
“You can go straight back to sleep, after you’ve eaten something.” He argued, sitting up behind me. I whined as I sat up, fully expecting to have to get dressed and head downstairs until I smelled the wonderful aroma. Sat on identical trays, were two plates of meatloaf, with mashed potatoes, vegetables, and gravy. Daniel had placed a plate with still steaming biscuits on the bedside table. He placed the tray, which had hidden legs, over my lap, and poured me a glass of ice-cold water. I chuckled and before he had a chance to turn away to retrieve his own tray, I kissed his lips.
“Thank you.” I sang as I held his face in my hands, he looked at me like he was expecting more of a fight, but seeing I was genuinely appreciative, got a little bashful, although I could feel his pride too. I scooped a mound of the mashed potato, blowing on it before taking a big bite, I moaned, it was delicious, and cheesy. I saw Daniel shoot me a look, like he should be worried, and nearly sent it all out my nose as I snorted.
“You’re not going to sleep until I’ve made you moan louder than Annie’s cooking.” He stated as he settled his tray over his lap and placed the biscuits between us on the bed.
“Is my big bad Alpha jealous of mashed potatoes?” I teased as I scooped up some more.
“Keep teasing me, and I will make you scream before you can eat anymore.” He threatened with a smile.
“The food is delicious, but it doesn’t compare... to Kathy’s.” I couldn’t keep a straight face at his outraged glare, I almost overturned the tray as I fell over laughing. The tray disappeared, and his body was over mine.
“I warned you.” He growled as he trapped me beneath his chest, running his nose along mine and kissing me deeply. “Hmm, actually that is good, guess you will have be dessert.” He teased, sitting back up, and replacing the trays and plate while I was a little offended.
“Are you saying you prefer Annie’s food over me?” I asked, raising my eyebrow questioningly. Daniel swallowed his mouthful, loudly, sensing danger.
“I would eat you for every meal, but I don’t know how nutritiously sound that would be, might rot my teeth with how sweet you are. It would be hard to bite you with dentures, and we both know how much you enjoy that.” He teased, leaning over to playfully bite my shoulder while his fingers squeezed my nipple softly, to really hammer his point home. I was about to respond when his eyes grew wide after taking a bite of his meatloaf. “Oh, you have to try this!” He exclaimed, stabbing a piece with his fork and holding it to my lips expectantly. I took a bite, and was pleasantly surprised by the combination of flavours, as well as the usual beef, onions, and spices, there was a sweet and tangy glaze of caramelized red onions that elevated the simple dish beautifully. He grinned at me as he watched me stab a piece of my own as soon as I had swallowed the piece he fed me. We ate our meal mostly in silence, only talking when we tried something the other hadn’t. I broke open a biscuit and dipped it in my gravy, Annie had added a little Cayenne pepper and hot sauce to the mix, adding yet another tantalising flavour to the meal. The sweetness of the glaze, with the spice from the biscuit and the cheese from the mash potato made an incredible explosion of flavour that I soon forced Daniel to try. By the time we had finished, we were both laughing at the other’s insistence of what was the best combination. Daniel piled up the plates and took the trays downstairs while I slipped into the bathroom to brush my teeth, he soon joined me, brushing his own at his sink, stealing glances at me in the mirror. “How are you feeling now?” He tried to ask casually.
“Quite refreshed, between my nap and that meal I would say I’ve recovered most of the energy I lost training.” I replied with a smile.
“It’s not that late, do you want to watch a movie?” He asked, again trying not to sound too eager.
“Hmm, no, I don’t think so.” I played along, as his eyes seemed to look at everything but my naked body.
“How about a bath?” He asked, and the memory of our last soak together flashed in my mind.
“Hmm, that might be nice.” I replied, avoiding his eyes too, but only because I was desperately trying not to laugh. He placed his toothbrush back in its place and started running the hot water, and essential oils to the tub, filling the room with the soft scent of ylang ylang, sweet oranges, and lavender.
“Keep an eye on the water, I’m going to grab us something to drink.” He said as he kissed my cheek. A few minutes later he returned with two glasses and a bottle of wine.

I sank into the water, my body positioned between Daniel’s legs as he helped me lean against his chest. Between the heat, the scents, and Daniel’s hands, I was relaxed almost immediately, a small sigh of contentment slipped from my lips as he rubbed my tense shoulders. I may not have been able to see his face, but I could tell he was smiling with every noise he drew out of me. His fingers moved over a knot in my neck, and I moaned as he worked the muscle until it was loose and limber.
“What caused this?” He asked as his lips planted gentle kisses over each area after his fingers had moved on.
“Everything.” I giggled as he continued working his way down my shoulders, I was so lost in his touch I didn’t pick up on Daniel’s emotions at first, but it didn’t take long for them to burst my serene bubble. “What is it? What’s wrong?” I asked, when he couldn’t hide it any longer.
“Nothing, just me being stupid, and jealous.” He murmured, but I could tell there was more to it than that.
“Talk to me.” I pleaded, turning to face him.
“No, I promised I wouldn’t ask.” He said shaking his head, once again his wolf took matters into his own hands... or claws and deposited some information in my mind.
“Is this about my ex’s?” I asked, and his guilty look was all the answer I needed. “What do you need to know? My number? What?” I asked, feeling a little frustrated.
“No, I don’t want to know that... I just...” He floundered for words.
“Just what?” I asked, more upset than angry by this point.
“Did you love any of them?” He suddenly asked, and I felt like the bottom fell out of my stomach, I had not been expecting that question.
“I cared for them, and I thought that was love at the time, but no I don’t think I was in love with them.” I answered honestly.
“Okay, thank you for telling me.” He whispered as he pulled me back to him, twisting me so my spine was once again flush with his back, only now his arms were around my waist. I could tell there was more, but he didn’t seem to want to talk about it.
“I... I was the nerdy girl that ran track, who couldn’t afford the same clothes as anyone else, so I didn’t date much in high school. Or at all, at least until senior year, and in a move so cliché it’s embarrassing, I somehow caught the eye of one of the football players. He was the varsity wide receiver, and it took me a month to realise he was flirting with me, I was completely oblivious.” Daniel had stiffened beneath me, and not in the fun way, but I continued. “We dated from Homecoming, to Prom, but we were going to different colleges, so we agreed it would be better to break up before we left, that way we had the summer to deal, instead of moving, college, classes, and a breakup all at once.” I took a breath as I prepared myself to tell Daniel the rest. “Prom was prom, and even though we agreed to breakup, I thought maybe I would lose my virginity and he would change his mind about giving long distance a try. When the dance was over, he kept trying to convince me to go to an afterparty at the Quarterback’s house, I didn’t want to, I wanted to go somewhere private, and romantic, but I let him persuade me. Maybe it was my powers, or one of my aunts, but when we got there, I got a bad feeling. It was too quiet for a party, and there were only a few cars outside, all of which I recognised, they belonged to the other players. I told him I didn’t want to go in, but he kept insisting he had to make an appearance, he had promised, et cetera. Somehow, I convinced him to go in alone, and leave me in the car, but I was still getting that bad feeling, so I slipped out of the car and hid behind some bushes in a neighbouring yard. He came out with three other guys from the team, and they looked pissed, I heard him and the QB arguing. They were going to spike my drink and...” I couldn’t finish, my mouth was dry, and I was shaking as I relived the fear. “I ran as fast as I could the moment they went back inside, nearly collapsed by the time I got home, but I got away from them. He was the last guy I dated, I didn’t, or couldn’t trust men after that, not until you.” I tried to tell him without telling him, but after the snarl that came out of him, I didn’t think he really heard it.
“I’ll hunt down and slaughter every last one of them.” His voice was quiet but dripping with venom.
“Good luck with that, everyone but Steve, the Quarterback, died that night, they got drunk, got in the car, and wrapped it around a telephone pole. Two died on impact, one the next day, and Steve is still in a permanent vegetative state, minimal brain activity, so even if he did wake up, he would have serious defects. There were a lot of theories about why they went back out that night, more booze, girls, another party, but I always believed they were looking for me.” I had only ever told my therapist that before, not even my mother knew the full extent of what happened that night.
