In The Beginning, Chapter 95

After a little more reassurance, and a new pair of panties, we left, Daniel insisted I tell him all about my day as he played with my hair, which I had left down and curly for him, in the car. By the time we arrived at the restaurant Daniel and Bailey seemed more relaxed. A valet opened my door, and I saw Bailey exit the car quickly, and enter the restaurant ahead of us.
“What’s he doing?” I asked through the link to Daniel, my eyes trailing Bailey out of concern, but it still made Daniel growl quietly until I linked my arm through his, and pressed myself against him.
“Checking out the restaurant.” Daniel replied, and I knew he was pouting, I struggled not to roll my eyes as he led me inside. The hostess took our name and a man dressed all in black took our coats, but Bailey hadn’t returned, I was glancing all around for him as the hostess summoned someone to seat us. The atmosphere was more romantic that I thought it would be, the few times I had been somewhere as upscale as the reviews described, they had a more pretentious air to them. But with the dark wood floors, and twinkle lights covering the whole ceiling, which was painted a very dark colour imitating the night's sky, and soft glowing candles on every table, it was intimate. “It kinda reminds me of when we went camping.” Daniel muttered as we took our seats at a table, the server looking a little terrified when Daniel snarled at him for pulling my chair out, taking it off him and kissing my cheek affectionately.
“He will feel bad about that later, and leave you an excellent tip.” I whispered to the server as he handed me my menu, and I saw the poor kid relax, letting out a shaky breath as he handed Daniel his menu.
“W-would you like me to send over the sommelier... sir?” He squeaked nervously to Daniel.
“Yes, in a moment. We can’t order wine if we don’t know what we are eating, can we?” Daniel replied dryly, and I kicked him under the table, not hard, but enough for him to flinch. “Give us five minutes, thank you.” He said finally looking at the boy, who just nodded and left.
“You are so mean. That used to be me, just so you know, no where quite as fancy as this place, but still, be nice.” I warned, looking around, I still felt a little like I didn’t belong, even if doors opened everywhere Daniel went, I still felt like they were waiting to close in my face.
“He was too happy to pull out your chair, and the way he was holding it, he would have touched you.” He replied darkly.
“He was trying to get a good tip, nothing more.” I sighed looking over the menu, until it was plucked from my fingers.
“Is it my fault every man wants you?” He teased with a cheeky smile.
“That’s all in your head.” I replied, stealing my menu back and looking at it again until his knuckles brushed my hand. I looked up slowly, smiling despite myself.
“It’s really not.” He said through the link, his eyes looking to his right and my left. I followed his gaze to a group of obvious trust fund brats. I doubt any of them were twenty-one, but they had several open bottles of champagne open on their table, and all four of them were looking at me.
“They are children, and must have a family connection to the restaurant, I mean why else would they be at a place like this on New Year’s Eve? Without dates?” I asked, shaking my head at him and chuckling softly.
“They chickened out of using their fake Ids to get into a club, the one in the blue shirt is the owner's son. And the one in the black shirt is describing in some detail what he would do with you if he got the chance.” Daniel said through gritted teeth, his eyes fixed on the menu. I stared at him open mouthed for a second, until he slammed his menu down aggressively.
“Hey, don’t listen to them, focus on me, on my voice.” I soothed, leaning across the table to grab his hand. He ran his thumb over my knuckles absentmindedly, until he hit my engagement ring, and I saw him smirk. He grabbed my wrist, and brought my hand to his face, turning to kiss the palm and pointing my ring at all four of them. I had to turn my head away as I suppressed a laugh at his pettiness.
“Hey! Wha’s ssat old guy got dat I dowen?” one of them drunkenly slurred loud enough for even me to hear, while Daniel chuckled quietly. His hand holding my hand against his cheek.
“Do you want to tell them?” He asked, with a raise of his eyebrows.
“I’m not sure they would appreciate my very long list.” I drawled, pulling my hand back, he only released it after another kiss, to which I rolled my eyes, trying not to laugh. But it angered the one that shouted, as he made his way to our table.
“You gosummat to say?” He demanded, glaring at Daniel, who was still smiling, and looking at me.
“I said you wouldn’t like my very long list of things he has that you do not.” I replied, enjoying the twinkle in Daniel’s eye.
“I could get you thrown out.” He enunciated in my face, and I saw Daniel’s smile disappear, I shook my head as I looked in his eyes, then turned back to the drunk idiot.
“Try it, and I will report this place for serving a bunch of underage kids.” I stated simply, to the open-mouthed teen. “And in case you were wondering, just a few of the things he has that you don’t, manners, respect, an enormous cock and me. Happy New Year, now go have the night you deserve so we can enjoy our meal.” I said with a smile, while his friends dragged him towards the door laughing. Daniel leaned over the table and kissed me softly as he chuckled.
“Are you going to tell me off like that if I said that made me hard as fuck?” He chuckled through the link, making my cheeks flush red. Which got worse when I saw several tables around us had seen, and heard and were giggling, pointing, and looking our way. “Please stop blushing like that, it feels like my dick is trying to break out of my pants already!” Daniel groaned through the link as he shuffled uncomfortably in his seat, and I couldn’t help but giggle as I hid behind my menu, sure my face was getting redder. When we were both in control of ourselves again, we started talking about the menu, and what looked good, things became quiet again as we ate and drank, talking about anything and everything, including when I spotted Bailey at the bar with a soda. The server cleared our entrées when Daniel froze, his hand on mine, his eyes focused on something over my shoulder. I waited until the boy had left, before I asked.
“What’s wrong?” I linked, a little afraid to move as he followed movement over my head with his eyes.
“One of the Alphas is here, he hasn’t scented me or Bailey yet but he will, just be polite, and get ready to run. Get into the ladies, or outside and into an alley, away from any witnesses, and teleport if he becomes aggressive. You can link the warriors now, they will be at the pack house in thirty seconds, I will meet you there as soon as I can, promise me.” He rushed, and it scared me, but I nodded, my mouth was too dry to speak, and I shakily sipped some water. I saw it in Daniel’s eyes, just a fraction of a second, his fear for me, before he pulled up the cool indifference of his Alpha mask.
“Mr Summer, I have been trying to get a meeting with you for over a week. I know it is difficult over the holidays, but I thought our relationship meant more than that?” A slimy voice said from behind me, I half expected him to be covered in grease from it, but he was the opposite of everything I expected from his voice. He was beautiful, and many people were looking at him with lust and/or envy in their eyes. He had thick dark brown hair that fell in waves almost to his broad shoulders, vibrant blue eyes, and looked about 6’2”. He was clean shaven, in a pale grey suit, white shirt, and expensive black leather shoes.
“Mr Lyall, you know family is always welcome, but I wanted to respect your precious time with your loved ones. After all, our relationship is built on respect, is it not? And I would never dream of interrupting your celebrations.” Daniel blatantly hinted.
“Of course, I appreciate the thought, and I would love to return the favour, if I could get your assurances, you will contact me soon with a time for a meeting? And an introduction to your lovely companion.” Mr Lyall said, turning to me.
“Of course, Steven, this is Charlie, Charlie, my cousin Steven.” Daniel said through gritted teeth when Steven grabbed my free left hand, and bowed to kiss it. Although my face quickly had him repressing a chuckle.
“A pleasure, and you’re engaged I assume?” Andrew indicated to my engagement ring. But his eyes bulged when he noticed the wolf pendant I had decided to wear. “And can I also assume?” He pointed at the pendant, and Daniel’s face broke into a smug grin.
“Yes, to both. She is mine, and I am hers. It is done by the old ways, and our laws.” He added lowly. Looking around before leaning close, the whole time Steven had a tight smile that looked forced.
“You have always been lucky cousin, but I believe we finally have proof you are blessed.” He replied, a little louder than he meant to I’m sure.
“I will have my assistant find a time and let you know first thing, the day after tomorrow. When the office is open.” Daniel replied and I’m sure everyone around us picked up on the leave now tone. Thankfully I think Steven and I were the only ones that picked up on the ‘and stay the hell away from the pack lands' energy he was giving off. Steven nodded to us both and left, a man I hadn’t noticed behind him followed, they were arguing before they reached the door, leaving the poor server that had been showing then to their seats unsure of what to do for a moment, before he decided to tell the hostess and make it her problem.
“How are you related?” I asked, frowning.
“Lyall was Thomas and Rose's last name.” He sighed.
“Wait, he didn’t have red hair!” I frowned.
“Yeah, he’s the first Lyall ever born without red tones at least. And he was born the year after my mother and father mated. Had it in his head the goddess shifted her blessings from the Lyall’s to the Summer’s and won’t be dissuaded. Its made him resentful.” Daniel sighed.
“Miranda Lyall?” It didn’t fit the woman I knew somehow.
“DuBois.” Daniel corrected.
“Huh?” I asked confused.
“My mother is the oldest daughter, of the oldest daughter, of the oldest daughter of Thomas and Rose. My mother’s made name was DuBois.” He chuckled, but that just gave me more questions.
