Chapter 139
A roar that seemed to echo and resonate, its ferocity unlike anything I had ever heard before cut through the chaos, silencing everyone. My eyes strained at the corners to try and see what was happening, as several of Apollo’s children were flung across my line of sight. My muffled screams rang in my ears as Apollo grabbed me around the waist, hauling me around as bullets flew by us, the snipers at the base of the meadow striking the cocoon a few times, though I remained unharmed.
“Get around me or suffer at the hands of my father!” Apollo screamed, to his minions, they dutifully obeyed, circling him while looking for a way out. I was spun around enough to see Daniel throwing vampires left and right, as he towered over them in his other form. His massive frame was flinging the vampires left and right, snarling, his part human, part wolf arms threw creatures bodily, out of the way. His wolf’s head spread his jaw wide, to rip a head clean off one of the reptilian creatures, spitting it forcefully at the other. He broke through the line quickly, the rest of the wolves pouncing on every downed creature, ripping them apart before they could stand. The growling seemed to surround us as Daniel charged through the last few bitten in his way, Apollo tried to use me as a human shield when Daniel swiped at him. His enormous claws narrowly missed my throat and torso, as Apollo shoved me between them. Daniel ripped me from Apollo’s arms, he cradled me carefully with one arm, swiping down Apollo’s armour-less back with the other, tearing flesh from bone as the coward ran. The injury made him cry out, and whatever he had done to me began to weaken. I gathered my power again, it hurt, but I was able to break through. Two of Apollo’s children rushed to his aid, dragging their king away quickly, to the southeast corner of the field, they scrambled through the shrubbery until they reached the other side of it and teleported away. I reached out to Daniel, shaking violently from the adrenaline, he seemed to shrink as he held me, I couldn’t really understand it until he spoke, having shifted back.
“I promised I wouldn’t let them take you.” He whispered, holding me tightly against him, I nodded as I clung to him, my body still shaking as I came to terms with almost being taken. “It’s okay, I’ve got you.” Daniel soothed as I continued to shake, holding me gently, stroking my hair in relief that he got me back. I wrapped my arms around him and allowed myself a moment of weakness, letting a few fearful and relieved tears fall against his skin. Until his wolf, who had obviously been waiting to ask, popped a couple of images into my head I didn’t know how to connect. The first was of him in the mirror the first time they became the other them... I think... And an intimate moment between me and Daniel.
“Huh?” I asked him confused, Daniel looked at me concerned before his eye grew slightly glassy, and I knew his wolf was filling him in. It mostly looked like he was trying to figure out a problem or puzzle, and in his haste to solve it had neglected to tell you about it. His cheeks reddened, and I understood why he liked it when I blushed as he nervously scratched the back of his neck, his eyes anywhere but me.
“He was asking it that form is easier for you to consider... being... intimate-" Daniel began explaining through the link, before I cut him off.
“No, I can’t, but I am looking for solutions and working with Theia, and... Apollo was hurt, badly, and we saw from Hermes they can’t heal those wounds... So, maybe if we don’t get attacked, we could go for a run? Maybe go back to the camp, and the hot spring?” I teased them both, until a deep rumble rolled out of his chest, it made my knees week, as I fantasised about him making that noise as he fucked me, or went down on me... ahem.
“Whatever you are thinking about I am doing to you tonight. I don’t care if every man here hears us.” He growled, my panties ruined, and I became painfully aware of how naked he was as Kasa and Lander ran over to us, still in their wolf forms.
“What the fuck was that?” I heard Lander demand in my head, confusing me, I looked to Daniel, but he shook his head in an ‘I’ll explain later’ kinda way.
“Yeah... about that... I’ve only done it once before, and I didn’t think I’d be able to do it again... I’m not really sure how I did it, really...” Daniel admitted, unable to look his friends in the eye.
“It’s because of me, my powers... when I got them, when I turned twenty-five and they were released... because we were already mated, they changed Daniel. Made him stronger.” I confessed, both wolves looked at me questioningly, which is a little surreal, but moving on.
“So...” Lander drew out the O for an annoyingly long amount of time, “he’s part god?”
“No!” Daniel and I said in unison, although Daniel’s made the whole thing seem ridiculous, which had me looking at him with pleasantly shocked expression as I remembered all the times, I had said the same thing, and how he had looked at me with an almost pitying face. My mind raced with ideas to tease him about it relentlessly.
“Our bond allowed him to be enhanced, the same way it did for Kasa, and the packs, just a little more.” I shrugged, that’s how Theia had explained it. I was bonded by blood to Daniel, so he had been given a small amount of power, as it was drawn to my blood within him. He in turn was blood bonded to both the pack, and Kasa, so they also got a taste, and Kasa’s pack, got a tiny amount from him.
“So, I’m the only one without superpowers...” Lander deadpanned, making me giggle.
“Actually, I think when we made our pact you got a dose of it, or have you already forgotten how quickly you took down that buffalo thing?” Daniel asked, adjusting us so I was stood in front of him, his head resting on my shoulder.
“This is serious, the warriors are going to talk about this, you could become a target, we all could.” Kasa interjected.
“I know, that’s why I was keeping it to myself... but when I saw Charlie...” Daniel tried to explain, but he couldn’t find the words.
“I was careless, it’s my fault.” I confessed, letting my guilt swallow me.
“No, it wasn’t.” Daniel insisted, in a way that told me he wouldn’t argue about it, before turning his attention back to the Alphas. “It was the only way to save her, would you have done any less for your mates?” He asked them sincerely, his arms tightening protectively around me, as I nuzzled into him for comfort. Kasa watched us intently for a few seconds in silence.
“Why don’t you two go up to the house? Get cleaned up? We will oversee the clean-up here for a while.” He offered, his keen eyes observing us closely.
“You sure?” Daniel asked.
“Yeah, go enjoy some alone time.” Kasa insisted. Daniel refused to let me go, but instead tried walking us as we were up the meadow, which looked appalling.
“This isn’t working!” I giggled as he tried taking tiny steps behind me, causing us both to stumble awkwardly.
“Fine.” He huffed, spinning me around and lifting me up by my ass, his arms stubbornly refusing to allow me to wrap my legs around his waist, but his legs kept banging into mine unless he waddled with his legs spread wide. While I cackled like a broken Halloween witch toy at the absurdity until he put me down. He released a loud, threatening growl, that made every wolf around us bow their heads and expose their necks, killing my laughter in my throat. Until he grabbed my hand and strode past me, rushing to get us to the house, his erection bouncing hilariously with each step. A fresh round of giggles escaped my lips as he pulled me around the bare shrubbery hiding the path to the garden. He pulled me inside the house, I didn’t have time to remove my coat before his lips were attacking me. “I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have left your side, it was my fault.” He breathlessly confessed between frantic, remorseful kisses to any part of me he could find.
“It wasn’t your fault, you saved me.” I reassured him, panting from his frenzied attacks, with no order I could discern. His random switches from my lips, to my neck, my hands, my cheeks and hair, I couldn’t predict where he would be from one second to the next.
“I should’ve been beside you.” He insisted, pulling away, like he was somehow now unworthy of my affections.
“Then make it up to me.” I stated bluntly, refusing to be rebuffed.
“How?” He asked me sceptically. I took a step forward, trapping him against the door, not exactly like he had trapped me, but it made him smirk nonetheless.
“Pick me up, take me to our bedroom, into our shower, take off all of my clothes... and help me wash his touch away...” I struggled to say, a rogue tear running down my cheek. “Help me erase everything but you? I don’t want to remember anyone’s touch but yours...” I admitted, his hand slipped into my hair instantly, as the other pulled me closer.
“Anything for you, you know that...” He mumbled softly. His lips crashed into mine with a hunger that was maddening in its intensity. I didn’t register he had lifted me and walked to the stairs until he took the first step, the jostle of my body impossible to ignore, even when he was leaving hot wet kisses down my neck on his way to my mark. My coat was thrown over the handrail as he sucked on my skin, my fingers scraped along his scalp the moment he released my arms, my soft cries echoing down the hall as we got to the top.
