In The Beginning, Chapter 115
Daniel and I continued talking for hours, holding each other, sometimes laughing, sometimes crying, as we worked through some of our issues, occasionally pausing just to kiss and reassure each other. We made love again in the early hours of the morning, softer and more sensual than our earlier wild fucking, falling asleep in each other’s arms when we were both satiated.
I woke up the next morning to Daniel’s hands stroking my back and hair, it took me a moment to realise I was practically on top of him.
“Good morning, how did you sleep?” He asked me, his voice still gruff from sleep.
“Good morning... I slept well, I guess. What about you?” I asked, a little embarrassed by our position, or rather, mine...
“It was the best night’s sleep I’ve had in weeks.” He admitted, and I found myself trying to hide my smile. “Do you want a coffee? Or- or more sleep? We can’t go into work for a couple of days, half of it is still a crime scene...” He mumbled, and I realised he was just as nervous and unsure as I was.
“I can get off of you if it’s uncomfortable-” I began, but his arms tightened around me, and I felt his heartrate increase under my cheek.
“No! I’m fine... I mean, if you’re not...” He sighed, looking at the ceiling. “I’m not sure how to act, after everything.”
“Neither do I...” I sighed, putting my cheek back over his heart.
“Would... would you mind staying like this for a little while?” He asked softly, I had to bite my lip to hide my relieved smile.
“Mmhmm.” I hummed in agreement, afraid I would laugh if I said anything, while hoping he would attribute it to me being tired. He relaxed instantly, his fingers playing with my hair and tracing patterns on my bare back.
“Do you... regret last night? Being with me I mean... I feel like I didn’t give you a choice, and I don’t like that feeling.” He admitted, and it was my turn to have an erratic heartbeat.
“But you did give me a choice... and you would have stopped, if I had said no, just like every other time.” I whispered; his fingers paused their movements while he thought over my claim, restarting after several moments.
“I think this is what I’ve missed the most... just being with you.” He confessed quietly; I raised my head to look at him.
“Me too.” I whispered; he pulled me up his body, until we were nose to nose.
“I love you.” He declared, and I couldn’t help but giggle, thankfully his eyes softened. “Goddess I’ve missed that laugh.” He breathed, before capturing my lips, his fingers gripped my hair as the kiss deepened, so when we finally pulled apart, we were both a little breathless. “You have no idea how much I want you.” He groaned, as his lips moved over my jaw to my neck.
“I think I have some idea...” I moaned as his lips brushed my mark, and his erection twitched between my thighs.
After a very satisfying morning workout, which we repeated in the shower, Daniel and I headed downstairs for breakfast, our arms around each other. When we entered the kitchen, the staff were already working, Kathy quickly made me a latte, and insisted I sat down while she made me something to eat, but I felt a frostiness towards Daniel that made me uneasy. She practically slammed his coffee cup down on the table, and walked away before being dismissed, I saw Daniel’s jaw flex, but he said nothing. Excusing himself to check some emails in his office after we had eaten.
“Are you sure I can’t make you anything else Luna? You are so thin! We need to get some meat on those bones.” Kathy huffed as she gave me another coffee.
“You heard Theia yesterday, didn’t you?” I asked her outright.
“Yes Luna.” She nodded, her eyes on the floor.
“Have you ever heard of a succubus?” I asked her.
“Yes, Luna, but-” She began, but cut herself off.
“Have you told anyone else?”
“No, Luna, it’s not my place.” She said, but I could tell she wanted to say more.
“Speak freely, I think you know me well enough to know I’m not going to punish you for voicing your opinion. Even if I don’t like it.” I stated, leaning back in my chair.
“Some of the staff heard what happened, and we have all seen the effect it has had on you. While we understand Alpha wasn’t in complete control, his actions have damaged you, and we are angry about that.” Kathy replied honestly.
“I want you all to hear this, what happened, and the effect it had on both me and my relationship, is my business and no one else's. The Alpha and I have worked very hard to get past this issue, and I want to put it behind me, so, you will respect your Alpha, or be dismissed, am I clear?” I asked.
“Yes, Luna.” They replied in unison, however Kathy still appeared to have something to say.
“Anything else Kathy?” I pushed.
“I... we have come to care about you Luna, that’s all we meant by it.” She admitted, wringing her hands nervously.
“I care about all of you too, but Daniel is my mate, and I can’t let his leadership be undermined by anyone.” I explained softly, standing and going to the poor woman, who was practically shaking. “He is a good man, and a good leader. The only mistake he made was being in the same room as a succubus, the mother of all succubae, apparently... I need this to be in the past.”
“Yes, Luna, of course, I apologise.” Kathy said with a little bow of her head.
“No need to apologise, let’s just forget about all this and move on.” I smiled, rubbing her arms affectionately. “You may go back to work now.” I whispered, she nodded, and returned to her position among the other women, while I took my fresh coffee into Daniel’s office to check on him. He was frowning at something on his screen when I entered, I wasn’t sure he was aware I was there until he spoke.
“You didn’t have to do that.” He grumbled.
“I know, but I wanted to... are you upset?” I asked taking a seat opposite him.
“No, they are your females, they have every- why are you all the way over there?” He interrupted himself to ask.
“Where else am I going to sit?” I asked him through my giggles at his unhappy expression. He pushed his chair back and looked at his lap expectantly. I sighed in exasperation but got up from my seat and walked around the desk, he pulled me onto his lap, wrapping his arms around me.
“What do you want to do today?” He asked me, running his hand up my back affectionately.
“I have no idea... depends on what you’re up to, you’re still recovering.” I replied, putting my arm around his neck to play with the hair at the nape, he closed his eyes, like he was savouring the sensation. “It would be nice to get out of here for a bit though.” I added.
“You don’t want to be in the pack house?” He asked, his eyes shooting open.
“No, it’s just that I’ve been here or work, the only time I went outside was when I was training... it would be nice to go... somewhere, anywhere.” I shrugged, and he went back to stroking my back.
“We could go out for lunch? Walk around town, I haven’t had much of a chance to show you around? I will have to make a statement to the police first.” He suggested.
“Where would we go to eat?” I asked, unsure of what was available.
“There’s a decent diner, not far from the meeting hall, great burgers.” He smiled.
“Sounds perfect.” I smiled back, our lips connecting in a sweet but quick kiss.
“I’m probably going to have to call Lander and Kasa too before we go.” He added, kissing me again, a little longer this time.
“That’s okay, I want to finish up a few things for work anyway.” I replied, as he nodded understandingly.
“Then you had better get to it before I’m tempted to bend you over that desk.” He chuckled darkly.
“I had better get going then.” I teased, slipping from his grasp and lap.
“Does it have to be right now?” He pouted, making me laugh again.
“Apparently, or I might end up bent over the desk, unable to get any work done.” I smiled, as I backed away from him towards the door.
“You are a cruel woman.” He scowled, but the corners of his lips were fighting to smile, I put my hand over my heart, play acting that he had wounded me, before winking and blowing him a kiss.
