Chapter 127

Daniel POV

I was ready to rip Kasa’s throat out when he started interrogating Charlie with a smile, I told him I would explain when she was better, all he had to do was wait.
“Daniel?” Only she could bring me back from the edge when I was ready to attack, I walked away from him and sat on the bed, her fingers entwining themselves with mine.
“I was raised human.” Charlie told Kasa truthfully, her thumb massaging my knuckles.
“Then where, can I ask, did your powers come from?” Kasa asked with a doubtful smile.
“Why do you want to know?” I interjected before Charlie could answer.
“Daniel, please? The power she exhibited? I need to know what I’ve bound myself to! Not just for me, but my wife!” Kasa yelled, losing control, actively covering his mouth to prevent more of his anxieties and fears spilling out. “I mean if she is just a suped up witch or something tell me, please?”
“Alright, alright.” I tried to silence him, pulling him into the room and closing the door. “She’s the niece of our moon goddess.” I whispered, stunning him into silence.
“That is a theory at best!” Charlie intervened, huffing annoyed, folding her arms and pouting adorably. “And what does he mean ‘bound himself to’?”
“Why exactly is that a theory?” Kasa asked, as if he could make the world right again if he could disabuse us of this unfathomable notion.
“It’s what her father told her mother, before he left, when Charlie was a baby. The stories of how we were created seem to corroborate the story he told her mother. Our theory, from what we have been able to dig up, is that his youngest brother, is King of the Vampires, and trying to destroy the planet to one up his parents and siblings. You might have heard of him referred to as Zeus.” I explained, choosing to explain to Charlie later. A bewildered and slightly frightened laugh erupted out of Kasa, and he reached out for a chair in the corner, lowering himself onto it with a lost look on his face.
“And her grandparents would be?” Kasa asked, his voice noticeably higher than earlier.
“The mother of all creation and death and destruction itself, or Persephone and Hades.” I replied, watching Kasa turn paler and try and make sense of what I had told him. His head nodding absentmindedly as he thought.
“I think you’ve broken his brain.” Charlie said, making me chuckle, as she tucked into her soup, leaving Kasa to his struggle.
“If you’re feeling up to it, I was thinking we could pop over to Paris for your birthday, seeing as I haven’t been able to get you a gift yet. You could go crazy in all the clothes and jewellery stores, see if we can reach the limit on one of my credit cards.” I teased, enjoying watching her almost choke on her soup.
“We have jobs, that we haven’t been doing for weeks, and lives, and obligations.” She spluttered.
“Nothing that can’t wait.” I said unable to contain my smile any longer.
“Oh the war with the vampires can wait can it? Dealing with Owen can wait can it? Warning all the other packs? Can that wait?” She asked, getting annoyed.
“Fine, you up to going back home this evening? Or tomorrow?” I asked, liking her flushed cheeks, she bit her lip, thinking about the options and all I could think about was sucking on that lip as she moaned, forgetting all about Kasa for a moment. I saw the glint in her eye when she saw me trying to cover my growing erection, her eyes slowly raking up my body.
“There is an argument to be made that if we left this evening, we could sleep on the plane and get straight to work when we get back, you with the other Alphas and me at Appletree. But we have missed check out for today, and leaving a hotel room empty is extremely wasteful.” She reasoned, batting her eyelashes innocently.
“First thing tomorrow, we will still be home by mid morning or so, plenty of time for you to get some work done. Your assistant has been keeping things going while you were gone, even interviewed some of the candidates for your team.” I casually mentioned, watching her ears perk up.
“Kendra did all that?” She asked, quietly.
“Well, I never started the exit paperwork or anything, so I just emailed her saying you had to tie up some lose ends at your previous job and she should keep the office running until you returned.” I admitted feeling a little sheepish.
“So, what is her- your father’s name?” Kasa interrupted, still struggling to wrap his head around everything.
“Ares, but that’s just one of many names.” I replied, enjoying his inability to cope with the information he had been given.
“How long was I out?” Charlie asked, suddenly.
“About eighteen hours.” I replied as she placed the tray on the bedside table, and pulled the covers off herself.
“Where are you going?” I rushed to the side of the bed to help her, we had no idea how her powers had drained her, and I wanted her to be careful.
“To the bathroom.” She said with a giggle at my panic, standing up off the bed like she hadn’t almost died. “But don’t for a second think I’ve forgotten about Kasa being bound to you.” She threatened with a raised eyebrow. My wolf made a soft rumbling noise in my throat of excitement, he loved her sassy side, it made dominating her more of a challenge. “Good call on the sweats.” She called as she left the room, making me laugh and shake my head at her antics.
“I’ve never seen you this happy.” Kasa said, reminding me he was still in the room, everything else slipped away when I was close to her.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy before.” I replied, with a shrug, the smile refusing to leave my face.
“You were keeping her hidden from Eric?” He asked, but it wasn’t accusatory, it was more of a statement than a real question.
“From everyone until we knew more, or that was the plan.” I explained, but he raised a hand to stop me.
“I get it, I would have done the same thing.” He said brushing his hair back and starting to pace. “Alright, so we need to come up with a plan.”
“A plan? For our warriors? Shouldn’t we wait until Landers is here too?” I asked, confused.
“No, a plan for Eric, he cannot be allowed to continue as Alpha, he has broken too many of our laws and now we have proof. I always thought I would have to kill him quietly, make it look like an accident, but now. If you or Landers wishes to challenge him, I will accept it, otherwise I will do it myself, after we get the boy back.” Kasa said throwing me completely.
“Kasa, I don’t understand where this is coming from.” I said, trying to follow his train of thought and urgency.
“He’s awake, it’s the real reason I came here, and you hiding your mate because you knew it would be dangerous for him to discover her, it’s the straw that broke the camel’s back, or it would have been without everything else. He needs to be dealt with.” Kasa hissed, his anger at Eric coming off him in waves through his aura.
“Then we will, is Lander’s awake?” I asked, several scenarios running in my mind at once.
“Hyacinth said any moment, she also offered to knock Eric out again, he has been threatening everyone since he woke up.” Kasa growled as he paced, that’s when I saw Charlie in the doorway.
“Hey.” I said, offering her my hand.
“What’s going on?” She asked as she entered the room, her hair now up in a messy bun, and the faint smell of toothpaste on her lips. She stood at my side, her arms wrapped around mine as she waited for Kasa or me to explain.
“Before the attack, we found out Eric killed the man the vampires were going to replace him with and has been working with them since. He is also involved in the kidnapping of Landers’ mate and pup.” She gasped horrified at what she was hearing. “Landers saw Eric watching them beat the boy, he didn’t see his mate. We had to restrain him to prevent him from going feral, which is an uncommon but a consideral problem for Lycans, particularly Alphas.” I explained softly, as she fought back tears.
“We had Hyacinth cast a spell on them that knocked them out, but now they are awake and we have to deal with them.” Kasa added, I could feel how mixed Charlie’s feelings were, and I wished I could keep her safe and protected from hearing about these things.
“I’m guessing we need to keep Eric alive to get Landers’ wife and child back?” Charlie asked surprising me, I nodded, unsure my voice wouldn’t break if I spoke to her. “But we cant allow him to be put back in charge of his pack.” She stated, not asked, and I felt a swell of pride at how well she was taking things despite the doubts I knew she was feeling. “Is there a way of... deposing him, before we trade him for Landers’ family?” She asked, and I could see a plan forming in her mind.
“There may be, but I would have to check out a few things first.” Kasa replied, swiftly leaving the room.
“I have a feeling work will have to wait a few more days.” She said wrapping her arms around my waist and stretching up for a kiss.
“Will you ever stop surprising me?” I asked, catching her lips with mine.
“I hope not.” She replied with a smile.
