In The Begining, Chapter 40 - I Never Loved A Man
Daniel’s face grimaced in understanding as he pulled me into his arms.
“Do you want to try to show me?” He asked softly, I shook my head, I wanted the images gone from my mind, not polluting his. “Okay, did Theia say anything else?” He nudged gently.
“I found out a little more about my powers?” I offered with a sad chuckle.
“Wanna tell me about that? Take your mind off the other stuff?” He asked as he stroked my hair.
“I made a ball with my power, Theia had me release it in the meadow.” I mumbled, a little embarrassed, when Theia had been excited it gave me a thrill, but telling Daniel about it, it just felt insignificant. “It looks like spring there now, my power somehow melted all the snow and nourished everything beneath. It spread to the trees, but I could see the shrubs at the far end weren’t affected, neither were the fields at the east side of the meadow.” I explained with a shrug.
“Babe, that’s amazing! Show me!” He exclaimed excitedly, moving me from his lap and standing offering me his hand. I sighed, but infused by his enthusiasm I relented, allowing him to pull me from the couch. We grabbed our coats and he led me out of the house. I braced myself against the cold, before realising I hadn’t released my power, I looked at Daniel, but he seemed unaffected. We rounded the untouched bushes and trees that lined the edge of the garden, Daniel gasped in wonder as we walked over the last areas covered in snow. “It looks exactly like it did the first time I saw you here.” He breathed, before picking me up and spinning me around. “I knew you were amazing, but this is beyond anything I could imagine!” He chuckled, before capturing my lips with his.
“I don’t see how this is supposed to defeat Zeus or Apollo.” I confessed, his smile faded.
“Maybe not yet, but this must’ve taken a lot of power. Think about how many plants your powers touched and nurtured!” He smiled at me, but there was a hint of something else there too, like pity. “I wish you could see yourself the way I see you.” He sighed sadly, brushing my hair behind my ear.
“You’re biased.” I teased, leaning forward for another kiss.
“Yes, but also right.” He teased back, pressing his lips to mine again. I deepened the kiss, running my tongue along his bottom lip, he growled softly, and picked me up so my legs could wrap around his waist. “You should release your power, see how tired you are before this goes any further.” He murmured, his lips moving over my neck.
“No, I want you now.” I moaned as his lips moved over my mark.
“Fuck Charlie, if you knew how much I want you, but you have to be careful, remember what Theia said?” He pleaded, his lips leaving my skin so he could look in my eyes. I groaned, frustrated that he wouldn’t give me what I needed.
“Fine, I’ll release it when we get inside, now more kissing.” I smiled, pulling his face to mine, he resisted, but his eyes were hazy with lust as his gaze lowered to my mouth. His hand slid up my back into my hair as he drew my lips back to his. I barely registered he was walking us back to the house as my libido was in control. My hands slid inside his coat, I needed to feel his skin on mine, as our tongues danced. His grip on my hair tightened slightly, as my fingers finally found his scorching skin. I felt his erection against my groin as my body shifted with each step, the rumbling vibrations of his chest made my nipples stiffen, as his hand moved to my back to pull me closer. His lips left mine as he opened the door, so I took the opportunity to suck on his earlobe. He groaned softly as I nibbled it with my teeth.
“Release your power.” He ordered as he stepped inside. I felt a shiver move up my spine, as I concentrated on letting my power recede back inside me. Like someone had sucked all the energy out of me, I slumped slightly against his chest. “How are you feeling?” He asked, searching my eyes for the truth.
“A little tired, but I’m alright. It’s not as bad as yesterday.” I smiled, before reinitiating our kiss.
“Charlie.” He warned with a huff, pulling away from my lips. “You need to rest.”
“I need my mate.” I argued, as I went back to sucking on his earlobe. I felt his fingers grip me a little tighter.
“Charlie?” He groaned, as I moved my lips lower, shoving his coat off his shoulders so I could access his mark. He had changed out of his delicious, fitted suit into jeans and a tight tee, so I didn’t have to undress him completely to wrap my lips over the spot that drives him wild with passion.
“Will you stop treating me like a China doll! I’m not as fragile as you think!” I yelled, both sexually and generally frustrated. I slipped down his body, planting my feet on the floor, ready to walk away until I had calmed down, when his hand caught my arm.
“Being concerned about you pushing yourself too hard is not treating you like a ‘China doll’!” He growled, pulling my body flush with his.
“No but acting like I’m going to shatter every time things get rough is!” I snapped back, both of our chests rising and falling as our anger seemed amplified by the other’s. His furious eyes dipped to my lips, then my heaving chest, before returning to my eyes, and I saw the pain in them,
“Can’t you understand I’m terrified of losing you? Of being too rough and driving you away? Of you getting hurt and it being my fault?” He begged me to understand, I raised my hand to his cheek, but he flinched back, before allowing me to place my hand on his face.
“Don’t you understand that could never happen?” I asked him softly. “I’m yours, and you are mine. I don’t know what that means to you, but for me...” I struggled to find the words to explain. “I gave you my heart, I can’t take it back, you own a piece of me I have never given away before.” His face contorted into an expression I hadn’t seen, and couldn’t identify, even with the bond my own emotions were overpowering my ability to sense his. He grabbed my neck and kissed me like I was the only thing in the world to him. My feet left the ground before I could process it happening, his lips on mine were intoxicating. My legs wrapped around his waist again and he carried me upstairs, his lips never leaving mine.
“You don’t just have my heart, you are my heart, you’re my everything.” He said through the bond, like a vow as he kicked the bedroom door shut behind us. “I’ve never done this before, been in a relationship... I keep thinking I’m going to fuck it up.” He admitted through the link, his lips pausing briefly to examine my reaction.
“Just talk to me, I’m here, I’m trying, I’ve never had a relationship like this either.” I admitted. He drew back to give me a questioning look. “What?” I asked, feeling my earlier anger and irritation flaring back up.
“Nothing.” He answered and tried to lean in, to capture my lips again, but I dodged him.
“Not until you tell me what that look meant!” I said aloud, his eyes shot behind him to the door, then to me, reminding me we weren’t alone.
“Nothing, I was being jealous and petty.” He tried to placate me through the link.
“So, what you’re saying is, you don’t believe me.” I replied.
“Charlie come on, look at you! I’m not naïve enough to think you were a virgin when we met. You had no reason to wait for me, you didn’t know I existed, and I’ve made my peace with that! So, don’t lie to me and tell me you didn’t have relationships before!” He practically screamed in my mind, I could help the flinch that came in response, which just made him look more broken.
“I never claimed to be a virgin, or not to have had relationships before. But I have never loved someone the way I love you, and I certainly never pictured spending my life with any of them.” I whispered back, letting him feel my pain at his words, while carefully avoiding using pronouns. Maria had told me he asked Ben to omit any questions about my sexual history when he was acting as Daniel’s eyes and ears during my tribunal, but I was still nervous about bringing it up with him.
“I didn’t mean it like that...” He whispered back, his hands moved over my arms, pulling me back to his chest. “I’ve never been in love before, never spent more than a weekend with a woman. You told me once it was hard always being the student, but you teach me more about what a real relationship is like every day, and every day I’m thankful that you do.” He explained, and I felt like a bitch. His fingers gently brushed my hair behind my ear. “I wouldn’t survive losing you.” He muttered aloud as his lips pressed against mine. “I need you.” He whispered through the link, as his hands cupped my face gently. He pulled back to look into my eyes, freezing when he saw tears there.
“I need you too!” I choked, even in my mind, his lips pressed gently against mine. We made love, in our bed, until we were both exhausted, satiated, and spent, curled up in his arms, I had never felt safer.
