In The Beginning, Chapter 60

Charlie POV

Daniel had left for the execution, so I was exploring the house, having never gotten around to asking for a tour, when Theia appeared, scaring me half to death as she appeared behind me.
“Charlie? Is everything alright?” She asked after I shrieked.
“Yeah, you just scared the bejesus out of me!” I laughed, my hand over my racing heart to stop it escaping my chest.
“I am sorry, we will work on your ability to detect those around you soon.” She replied with a chuckle. “How are you feeling?” She asked, her eyes darting to my arms.
“I have rested, and eaten lots, more than I should have really. I feel fine.” I replied with a smile to show her it was true.
“Hmm, your energy is still a little low, but you do seem in good health.” She nodded and followed me into the living room.
“Can I get you a drink?” I asked as she made herself comfortable on the couch.
“No, but you should get yourself a glass of water, and something sugary. Today I want you to astral-project, it is time for you to meet Diana.” Theia smiled, but it looked mischievous to me.
“Okay, give me a minute.” I replied, hurrying to the kitchen, I grabbed a candy bar and a glass of water, and placed them on the coffee table before taking my seat.
“I will guide you, but once you enter her realm, I will have to remain here, you will be susceptible to attack, do you understand?” She asked me softly.
“Yeah, but before we start... can I ask you a question?” I asked a little unsure if I really wanted an answer.
“Of course.” She smiled back, at ease.
“What happens when a Lycan dies? Is there an afterlife? Or is that it?” I asked, hoping I could tell Daniel something to reassure him.
“They believe they return to Diana, yes?” She asked, I nodded, unsure if my voice would work if I tried it. “It is partly right, every spark, once it cannot sustain a body, returns to my mother. I cannot say more, as I do not know, sometimes the spark can linger, but ultimately, we all return to the source. Even us, one day.” She smiled sadly.
“What about those who nearly die, but are revived? Some people say they saw and felt a warm comforting light? Is that your mother?” I pressed for more.
“Yes, I have read a few things like that, whether it is a trick of the mind, or my mother, I do not know, but why are you so concerned with this?” Theia asked me thoughtfully.
“Daniel’s uncle, the one that was trying to take over the pack, has been sentenced to death, today. I was hoping I could tell Daniel something to make him feel better.” I shrugged.
“My mother is not cruel, I am sure all that return to her know peace.” She said softly. “Now, time for your training! Close your eyes, and listen to my voice, I will put you in an artificial sleep, that will help you move between realms.”
“Realms?” I asked, unsure.
“Diana lives in the realm of dreams, specifically, Lycan dreams. She is aware of your awakening, as your Alpha is one of her children, and his dreams are where she visits him, however, she can sense when another is present, and if her wolf is not, so she would not have spied on any intimate moments.” She hastily added when she saw my face flush. “Honestly Charlie, with all the stories of our sex lives, you think there is anything we haven’t done in so many years of living?” I flushed deeper.
“It’s not that, it’s just private...” I mumbled, mortified.
“Puritanical ridiculousness.” She muttered with a shake of her head, moving closer to me, she placed a hand on my head, as I closed my eyes. “Now, listen to my voice, picture leaving your body, floating in the air. That’s it, now picture the place you want to go, somewhere you have already been in your dreams with Daniel and let go.” Her voice sounded a little muted, before the light behind my eyes changed, became brighter, like the sun had emerged from behind a cloud. I peeked between my lashes, I was in the meadow, and I could hear voices. Looking at the meadow, it looked and felt like a beautiful summer evening.
“Why are we here?” A voice asked as I searched the empty field for the source.
“I felt someone here, someone who isn’t one of my children.” A second voice replied.
“Hello? Diana?” I called, a little nervous. I took a step forward, freezing when an intimidating woman emerged from the trees. She looked around 6ft tall, with strong muscular arms, and silver white hair, her intense eyes focused on me.
“Charlie?” She asked surprised, as a second woman burst through the trees, a bow and arrow in her hands, aimed at me. I threw my hands up, indicating I had no weapon.
“Yes, I’m Charlie, Theia sent me to learn from Diana?” I asked, still wary, as the smaller woman, who was closer to 5ft, and had long black curly hair, and milk chocolate skin, still had her arrow pointed at me. Realising, she lowered her bow and arrow, and they shimmered away.
“I am Athena, it is good to finally meet you.” The taller woman said with a smile, moving towards me, she placed her hands on my shoulders, and looked into my eyes. “You have much of your father in you.” She said with a smile, and tears in her eyes.
“Hi.” I smiled, tears filling my own eyes as the reality that I had relatives that loved me overwhelmed me a little.
“Oh, you have had such a hard road child, and it will only get harder, but at least now you have us.” Athena smiled, drawing me into a warm hug, that made me feel childlike in her strong arms. When she released me, the shorter of the two, who must have been Diana moved closer to me. She clasped my chin, much like Miranda had, but gentler.
“You do have a lot of Ares in you, and his power, but it might not be enough.” She said bluntly.
“It will have to be, I don’t plan on leaving my mate anytime soon.” I replied just as bluntly. I saw Athena smile, while Diana kept staring at my face.
“I will not return to Earth, I do not visit the human side of my children, not anymore. But I will help train you here. I am Diana.” The shorter woman said as she turned her back on me and scoured the treeline with her fast keen eyes, that felt like nothing could escape them.
“What about you, Athena? Will you come help me train?” I asked, trying to keep my enthusiasm to a minimum, feeling a little like a fan-girl.
“Yes, here, but I cannot leave my world for long... I will return when Zeus wages war, if he did not want me involved, he should not have named me the war goddess, or taken my child.” Athena replied with a conviction, placing her arm around my shoulders.
“I hope you don’t mind, but Theia told me a little of your daughters... I saw some of her memories...” I tried to explain, but words failed me.
“I know, she asked my permission before she left my world.” Athena nodded, allowing me to relax a little. Neither of the sisters seemed a fan of small talk, as they quickly got to work, sparring with each other to show me different moves before having me demonstrate them. Showing me how to anticipate an attack, Diana moving me into the correct position, or stance as Athena took on the role of my attacker. After what felt like hours, exhausted, but a little more confident in my ability to defend myself should I need to, I flopped onto the grass for a break.
“How long have I been here?” I asked, the memory of my coffee afternoon coming back to me when my stomach growled loudly.
“Time works differently here; you have been gone roughly 30 Earth minutes.” Athena smiled, elegantly sitting beside me.
“But we have been training for almost three Earth hours.” Diana added, stretching out on the grass.
“How does that work?” I asked, a little surprised.
“One of our mother's mysteries I guess.” Diana shrugged, her eyes once again darting over the treeline.
“I thought you made this place?” I asked, confused.
“If I did, it was unintentionally, my guess, it was our mother, but why it is separated from the other dream realms is beyond me.” She sighed, propping herself up on her elbow.
“Waiting for someone?” I asked, when her eyes again went to the trees.
“It’s strange, being here without Alpha, I have not seen him in a while.” Diana shot me a playfully teasing look that made my face flush.
“I need to return, but I will come see you again soon.” Athena smiled, and placed a kiss on my cheek, before disappearing in a puff of indigo sparks.
“You should get back too... I’ll think about coming to Earth, but I will not promise anything.” Diana said with a huff, and like I had been yanked backwards, I felt like I was falling, before I found myself back in the living room on the couch.
