Chapter 36
We spent the rest of the day in bed, talking, laughing and making love we even ordered a pizza for lunch and ate it in bed, until I had to get ready to meet Mr and Mrs Lowenstein for dinner. Daniel insisted on coming with me, he even changed our reservations and got us upgraded, so he went home to change while I got myself showered and dressed. He also got me to agree to not quit the company, to go home with him after dinner, spend the weekend, and go to the funeral with him from his house on Monday. In exchange, he would take the engagement off the table, at least until we agreed to mark each other. I got dressed and packed my bag for the weekend, worried we were moving too fast, but excited to do all the things I had been desperate for since the dreams started. I also had to find a way to explain it all to my mother. I thought it best to call her before I left, I didn’t want her to worry if she tried my apartment and didn’t get an answer. But how was I going to explain I was dating my boss? Or that I didn’t know he was my boss when we began? I had no idea what to do, but I figured it would be better to keep things vague and dodge any attempts to probe deeper. I had no idea what the rules were when it came to telling humans about other species. If we did get married or have kids, I would have to tell her then surely? I decided to add it to the growing list of questions I had for Daniel, and then I took a deep breath and dialled her number.
“Hello, Charlie, is that you?” I rolled my eyes, it never changes.
“Yeah Mom, it's me. I just wanted to let you know I am going to my boyfriend’s house this weekend so call me on my cell if you need to get in touch with me.” I silently begged she wouldn’t start asking questions.
“Oh, is this a new boyfriend or someone you’ve been seeing for a while?” She asked, I could hear the smile in her voice, she had always been way too interested in who I was dating. Part of me thought it was because she didn’t date at all, not since my dad.
“It’s kinda new. He was there for me during a rough time... Mrs Shapiro passed away and he and his sister-in-law have been helping me plan the funeral with her sister. He’s actually picking me up so we can all go out for dinner soon.” I explained, as I tried to ignore the stab of guilt, I felt for not telling her sooner.
“Oh, honey, I know how much you cared about Mrs. Shapiro, I’m so sorry.” Her voice was full of concern and love, it made me smile sadly.
“Thanks, Mom, yeah, it’s been hard, but she died peacefully, in her sleep. Which helps and I just want to make sure she gets the send-off she deserved.” I sighed, as another barb embedded itself in me over my self-involved actions and lack of consistency when it came to looking in on my elderly friend.
“I know sweetie, I know. Do you need me to come to the funeral? I’m sure I could get some time off work?” She offered.
“No, I’ll be okay, I’ll have my boyfriend, he’s offered to come with me to the funeral. I’ll be fine, and I don’t want you using your vacation days on anything other than a vacation!” I scolded gently.
“Alright, alright, if you’re sure you don’t need me. I’m always here if you want to talk.” She conceded but still sounded worried about me.
“I know Mom, thanks. I have a few minutes. Why don’t you catch me up? What’s happening back home? Any news? Is anything going on with you? A boyfriend maybe?” I teased and tried to alleviate my guilt.
“No, everything’s pretty much the same, and you know I have no interest in dating. I met the love of my life a long time ago.” I was disappointed and frustrated, but I knew it was useless to argue with her.
“Okay, well, I’d better get moving, I have a few things to take care of before I go to dinner, I’ll call you on Monday after the funeral?”
“Sure sweetie, that sounds good. I love you!” She sang.
“I love you too, Mom,” I replied, before hanging up. I checked I had everything I needed for the weekend in my overnight bag and added a few pieces of jewellery before I put my earrings on. I checked myself in the mirror, I was wearing my vintage round-neck baby blue dress with cream accents and my cream heels. I had curled my hair into soft waves and wore the teardrop pearl earrings my mother had given to me. They were her grandmothers, and the only inheritance my mother had, when I graduated from college, she told me she wanted me to have them and had bought me a dainty freshwater pearl bracelet to match, which I also put on. Deciding I looked respectable enough for Mr and Mrs Lowenstein, I grabbed my cream clutch and put my wallet, phone and lipstick inside, I still had a few minutes until I was expecting Daniel, but with nothing else to do, I started flipping through the book Maria had given me. It was incredibly detailed; she clipped the company’s cards to handwritten notes on what she liked and didn’t like about each service, along with what they specialised in and any issues she had with their servers or the food. I only had time to read three of her notes before my buzzer went off. “Daniel?” I asked, making sure it was him.
“Hey, buzz me in so I can help you bring your bags down to the car.” I smiled; he was so adorable.
“I’ve only got one bag. I’m just putting my coat on; I’ll be down in a second.” I replied, still smiling like an idiot.
“Yeah, but if I come up there then I can see what you’re wearing. Unless you want me to be floored with how sexy you are in a restaurant full of people, and Mr and Mrs Lowenstein? I mean I’m fine with throwing you on the dessert cart and ravishing you, I don’t care who’s watching. It’s your call.” I laughed, I loved how goofy and sweet he could be. Sighing in exasperation, I buzzed the door, when I remembered the overnight bag was still in the bedroom. I headed there and grabbed it; I heard him knock on my door just as I got back to the couch. I dumped the bag down as I walked over to the door and opened it, a little shy about what his reaction would be after all the build-up. His eyes raked over my body, slowly. He looked delectable in his navy tailored suit, crisp white shirt, and silver tie and pocket square. His hair and beard were neatly brushed; I felt my pussy quiver. “You look good enough to eat. Let’s blow off dinner and stay here where I can fully appreciate how beautiful you are, all night!” He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively, making me laugh.
“I have to go to this dinner, I need to finish planning Mrs Shapiro’s funeral, and seeing as how Mrs Lowenstein is the one who has access to the accounts to pay for everything, she needs to help me pick a caterer, and decide the last few things. You don’t have to come if you don’t want to.” I offered again, I felt bad he was giving up an evening to spend with my neighbour’s sister, as I put my coat on.
“No, no, I want to come with you. I may not be able to keep my hands to myself, but I do want to come to dinner. Just don’t be surprised if I tear your clothes off the moment, I get you back to mine.” He teased with a smile; his hands pulled me close to him, he pressed his lips to mine, softy, the moment our mouths touched we both wanted more. His arms wrapped around me, pulling me tighter, my body pressed against his, and my feet left the floor. My fingers coiled into his hair, our lips parted, and our tongues danced and swirled around each other. I felt his erection grow, I whined softly, wanting so much more than we could do with the time we had. I forced my arms down, gently pushing his chest and arms, as I pulled my head back.
“We have to leave,” I whispered softly to him. He ran his nose down my neck, as my coat obstructed his access to my shoulder. I whimpered, as he left goosebumps along my skin, he growled quietly.
“I’m not going to be able to go anywhere if you keep making those noises.” He groaned.
“Then stop touching me, I can’t stop making those noises if you don’t stop causing them.” I shot back. He growled again as he set me down and released me.
“You have to stop dressing like that if you want me to stop touching you.” He grumbled, grabbing my overnight bag. I looked down at my dress, before buttoning my coat.
“Is my dress not appropriate for dinner?” I didn’t understand, I was covered up, with barely any skin on show. I thought I looked nice and respectable.
“Everything you wear is sexy, but that dress...” He swallowed, trying to find the right words. “It’s tight, and your legs, in those heels, look...” He swallowed again, and I couldn’t help but notice how aroused he was. I almost bit my lip but remembered how it turned him on I restrained myself. I slight blush tinged my cheeks. He groaned again.
“What? What’s wrong?” I asked, worried I had upset him.
“Do you have to blush like that every time I give you a compliment? Do you have any idea how adorable and sexy it is? You’re driving me insane woman!” He grumbled before he stormed through my door, leaving me speechless.
