In The Beginning, Chapter 105

After a restful weekend with Daniel, and some quality alone time, I was finishing up some Monday morning meetings, when I felt the connection to Daniel go quiet, like his feelings were hidden. I knew he was there, we still had the link, but it was almost as if he had muted his emotions. Refusing to worry when there was probably a perfectly reasonable explanation, I finished closing everything down and locked up my office for the day. I got to Ms Michaels desk, and she smiled at me warmly.
“Good afternoon, Luna. Alpha is still dealing with a client; do you want me to tell him you are-” I cut her off as a sharp pain ripped through my chest, making me hiss. Her eyebrows drew together as she jumped from her chair. “Are you alright, Luna?” She asked as she scurried around the desk to me.
“Ahh!” I yelped as another stab dug deep into my chest. “Something’s wrong!” I gasped through tears, stumbling towards the office door, needing Daniel. I almost fell through the door, Ms Michaels hot on my heels, like she was afraid I would collapse. I stumbled into the room and was frozen as I saw what was causing my pain, feeling it tear at my flesh in synch with Daniel’s hands and lips on the women sitting on his desk.
“Get out, can’t you see I’m with my mate!” He barked, and I flinched involuntarily, both at his words and tone. The woman giggled and it was like an ice-cold bucket of water drenched me, stealing the air from my lungs as I felt my heart boiling in acid.
“I am your mate.” I spat, both mate marks began burning, as he ran his hands up the sides of her body affectionately.
“You are a deceiver!” He growled, but his eyes broke away from hers, and when they looked at me, his expression changed momentarily, his eyes which seemed unfocused, sharpened for a second.
“Daniel?” I questioned if it was really him for a moment, his brow furrowed in confusion, his eyes pinned to mine, but when her hand touched his face, and his eyes became cloudy once more. She pulled his face to her, pressing her lips to his, and the pain in my chest blurred my vision. Heartbroken and enraged, I clasped my power before I thought about what I was doing and sent it shooting out of my palms. One pointed at each of them, Daniel was hit in the face, sent flying backwards over his chair, tumbling about on the floor behind the desk. My power hit her in the back, flinging her off the desk, she collided with the wall of windows I used to love, rolling along them until she stopped, trapped in the corner, my power like a high-pressured hose pipe was keeping her from running.
“Who are you? And what did you do to Daniel?” I demanded as she squirmed trying to free herself from my power.
“My name’s Lilith, and I just gave your man what he’s been missing. Don’t know why Apollo wants you as a breeder, but I’m happy do deliver anyone for the price he is offering... besides, if I’m the one to hand him Ares daughter!? I will gain the favour of Apollo, Zeus, everyone, and finally my father will have to crawl before me.” She laughed, although I could tell my powers were causing her pain.
“Lilith?” I questioned as I tried to remember everything I had ever read, including my recent research of Greek myths. “The only Lilith I can recall was wife of Adam.” I informed her as I tried to get a look at Daniel, he was still on the floor, hidden behind the desk and overturned chair. “What did you do to Daniel?” I almost growled the level of ire growing in me at her smug face.
“Yes, the mother of demons, silly humans, I have never married, but I have had many children. And while I didn’t do half the shit in the human’s stupid stories, there is one thing they got right. I did create my children in my own image. What I did to your mate is what I do to them all, it’s what I am. The mother of all succubae, and you interrupted my meal.” She pouted like a toddler, pissing me off more than I thought possible. A groan from Daniel distracted me momentarily, and she tried to escape. My power and rage blended seamlessly to violently force her back, a satisfied smile began to bloom on my lips as I heard her ribs break.
“Charlie? What...? What happened?” Daniel asked, slowly getting to his feet, like he was hungover. I opened my mouth to explain, but the dull ache left by his slashes to my heart stopped me. He reached out to me, taking a step around the desk to approach me, I flinched, and his face broke. Lilith’s barking laughter felt like nails on a chalkboard, as she observed the damage she had created.
“I tried to get to you, thought it would be even better to have your Alpha walk in on us... mid-moan. Ahh!” She let out a loud and sexually charged cry, maintaining eye contact with me and smiling. I heard Ms Michaels close the office door with a click, reminding me that she had witnessed my humiliation, and betrayal.
“Charlie?” He called to me softly, I could feel his need to hold me, but he was resisting it to give me space.
“Of course, I thought Mr CEO and I would have been much further along than we were... how do you cope? It took ages to get him hard.” She continued to rant, but her words were making me nauseous.
“Shut up!” I screamed, and my pain and anger surged through my powers rendering her mute as I watched the steady stream trapping her morphed into something more tangible. I watched as my power became solid, surrounding her and constricting, like a massive snake. Her eyes bulged in surprise as I stole the breath from her lungs, like she had done to me.
“It- it wasn’t you... was it?” Daniel asked, a tear rolled down my cheek at the pain in his voice. But when he reached out to catch the droplet, I again retreated. “What did you do?” He growled at Lilith, whose face was turning purple. He grabbed the phone and dialled an extension I couldn’t see. “I need a team.” Pause. “No, to be kept here, I don’t want to risk transport.” Pause. “She can make you believe she is your mate, so loop in the Kappa. I want her unconscious until we find a way to protect the men from her abilities.” Without waiting for a response, he hung up.
“I don’t think she will know much, she made it sound like a bounty, like she is a free agent, and not working with Apollo or Zeus.” I informed him, I was actively struggling to hold back tears as every glance at him made another phantom pang of pain shoot through my chest.
“There’s nothing you can do to stop me using my powers.” She spat breathlessly, I felt my power squeeze tighter, I wanted to rob her of everything, her freedom, her power, then her life.
“We will see, but I am not willing to risk letting her die without at least interrogating her.” Daniel informed me, and even though I knew he was right, we needed a prisoner to gain information, it felt like another betrayal, like he wanted to save her. “Charlie?” I could tell he wanted me to ease up but asking me for mercy for her made my blood boil. I stared into her cold eyes as my powers squeezed just a little tighter, when her eyes started to roll back in her head, I released it a fraction, allowing her to breathe, but only a marginally. Daniel took a small step closer to me, opening his mouth to say something when his eyes turned glassy. “Charlie?” He asked, and again he seemed off. I watched him look between the two of us dully, slowly turning his head and trying to figure out what was happening. One look at the smug, self-satisfied grin on her face and I knew she was using her powers on him, he shook his head sluggishly, glaring at us both, scrutinising us. I saw red, in the two seconds it took me to work out what was happening, my power redoubled its efforts, squeezing the life right out of her. The door behind me slammed open, and security personnel filed in on either side of us, their guns aimed at the now dead Lilith. Daniel tried to approach me again after ordering the security team to remove the body discreetly, I don’t remember thinking about teleporting, I just needed to get away from that room. My feet landed in the meadow, our meadow, where only a few weeks earlier I had become his Luna, and my legs gave out as I sobbed.
“Charlie? I felt your pain.” I heard Theia’s voice, but I couldn’t breathe, let alone respond. “Charlie?” She asked again, her voice betraying her concern.
“I... he... I...” I tried to explain, but my heart still felt like it was burning in my chest, I pressed my hand against it, almost certain I would feel the heat through my skin. Theia caught the action, her expression shifted from worried to murderous.
“He touched another?” She asked, quiet and low, it made the hair on my arms stand on end. I tried to shake my head, and explain, but I couldn’t stop sobbing. “Take my hands.” Theia ordered, I managed to pull myself up and held onto her tightly as her powers moved over me. My mind immediately started playing the memory, from when I walked up to Ms Michaels desk. I tried to pull away, I didn’t want to see it again, but Theia kept hold of me. When it was over, she broke our contact and I fell onto the snowy grass, my sobs and pain renewed by reliving the memory. Theia walked away from me, spitting a word I didn’t recognise like a cuss as she went, only to turn on her heel and walk back to me. “If Lilith came for you, Hermes will not be far behind.” Theia warned as my sobs finally died, leaving me feeling drained and empty.
“Let him come. Let them all come.” I muttered as I stood, and numbly moved towards the house.
“Charlie, you do not understand, even for a vampire Hermes is particularly unhinged, and he has a history when it comes to people who have killed his children. I think it has more to do with taking something he feels is his, rather than parental love, but he will come for you now.” Theia tried to warn me.
“I don’t care.” I sighed as I pushed open the front door to the house.
