Chapter 12 - Bad Intentions
Roger smiled to himself when he read the email from Trey. At least he knew they were okay and hidden, even if he would have liked to be forewarned of his plans. Some things had happened that made it appear that Trey was right in taking Caterina away when he did.
Jack Davis had informed them that Leo had sent him to the hospital to kidnap Caterina and take her to him. Luckily Trey got to her first and messed up his plans. Jack was singing like a canary, and he didn't even care if he had a deal. He just didn't want to go down alone.
The only problem was that Jack didn't know where Leo was staying, his plans going forward, or who he was working for. Clearly, Leo was not stupid and only told people what they needed to know.
Roger sighed as he read over the email again, wondering why Trey didn't send him a number for a burner phone. That was always rule number one. As soon as Trey got to his location, he picked up a burner phone and emailed the number to Roger to use for emergencies.
He quickly sent another email telling him to get a burner. He knew it was against protocol to have a relationship with anyone involved in a case they were working on. Still, if Trey started a relationship with Caterina, Roger would be willing to overlook it.
Trey had been so unhappy all these years looking for his mate that Roger would do anything to see him smile again. If that little dark-haired beauty is what it took, then so be it. Besides, no one could stop them if they fell in love. He should know he met his wife Valerie on the job.
Roger thought back to the little fireball Valerie had been when he first met her and laughed. He was head over heels in love with her the second he laid eyes on her. Roger was a detective then, and he and his partner had just arrested a father that had been molesting his nine-year-old daughter.
The man had kept the girl locked in a bedroom in their house. She was found when she banged on a window until someone walking by saw her and called the police. She was taken away in an ambulance, and the father was arrested as soon as he returned home.
Valerie was the therapist that was assigned to the little girl. The dad posted bail and went after his daughter while she was in a therapy session. When the man burst into her office, Valerie didn't cry and act scared like many women he knew would have done. She pulled out her gun from her desk and shot him in the leg before calling the police.
When Roger got to her office, she went at him with fire blazing in her dark green eyes while running her hands angrily through her long, blonde hair. She wanted to know why the father was granted bail, how he knew where to find his daughter and why the girl was not given police protection.
Roger had just stood there staring at the most beautiful woman he had ever seen while all sensible thoughts went out of his head. He vowed that day he was going to marry Valerie. It took some convincing, but she finally agreed to go out with him, and they have now been married for almost 30 years. If Trey could find love like that with his own little fireball, then so be it.
While Roger was in his office, Detective Caleb Pierce watched him angrily. He was pissed because he had wanted to be the one to take Caterina away. However, when he got his hands on her, he was going to take her somewhere she would never be found.
Caleb believed everyone on the team was a bunch of idiots. They let him join the team when he transferred from Indiana, no questions asked. Of course, on paper, he had a clean record. What he did when no one was looking would prevent him from working in law enforcement and get him locked up with the scum he put away.
He laughed to himself when he thought about his secret pleasures. Caterina was supposed to be his prize, and that prick Trey got to her before he could. He could tell that Trey liked her, and it angered him when Roger allowed Trey to take the lead. He was just a punk kid.
Caleb thought he should have been the lead with his years working as a detective. It was obvious that Roger had a soft spot for the kid. He would get past these obstacles to claim what was rightfully his. He just had to be patient.
Caleb took out his extra phone and texted Leo to lay low for a while. That was the only way they would get Trey to bring Caterina back to Sacramento. If the team was getting evidence from somewhere, they would let Trey and Caterina hide for a long time. Caleb couldn't allow that to happen.
The longer Trey had her alone, the better chance he had of touching her in ways only meant for Caleb to touch her. These thoughts caused him to send a folder flying off his desk, startling Ellie. She looked up and glared at him.
"What's your problem?" He could hear the hate in her voice.
"Mind your own fucking business." She continued to glare at him before turning back to her computer.
Ellie was another one of Roger's favorites. Caleb couldn't stand her because she ran to Roger and told him everything he was doing. He knew they were watching him. Caleb didn't care. He only had one goal, and that was to get his hands on Caterina.
When she was finally his, no one would ever see her again. Once he had her, she would be his forever, and there wasn't a damn thing any of those morons could do about it. Caleb laughed again as he picked up the folder and pretended to work.

Leo looked at the text he received from Caleb, and he wasn't happy. Why the hell should he lay low? He wanted everyone to know that he was coming for that little bitch. Caleb thought he would get to do what he wanted with Caterina, but that wasn't the plan. Leo wanted Caleb to do the dirty work as the inside man so Leo could get his hands on her to silence her once and for all.
Leo had always thought Emma was the biggest bitch of them all. However, Caterina ended up being worse than her mother because she was responsible for getting him locked up.
He laughed, thinking about how he came to be Caterina's caregiver. If she only knew everything he did to get her and what he did to her mom, he knew she would want to hang him from the highest tree by his balls. Leo decided that would be his present for her right before he killed her. He would rape her and then tell her all the dirty little secrets he had kept hidden.
Leo didn't really care for women, but when he looked at Caterina, he would just picture her as his little girl from the past. He felt himself getting an erection at those thoughts, but he quickly pushed them away. He wanted to save the fun for when he got his hands on her.
Caleb wanted him to stay low, but before he did, he would put out one more piece of bait for those idiot detectives to pick up. He quickly went to the chat room he knew they were monitoring. Leo increased the amount from $5000 to $10,000 to the first person who could bring Caterina to him alive.
He knew this would make Caleb mad. Caleb had no rights to Caterina. Only Leo did. After all, she was his flesh and blood. She just didn't know it. She thought he was her step-uncle. That would be another surprise he would have for her. Just wait until she finds out who her dad is.
He was laughing when he felt his phone vibrating. It was Caleb asking him what the fuck he was doing. Leo continued laughing and ignored the text. He would do whatever the hell he wanted. He didn't answer to anyone but himself.
Leo looked over his latest inventory. He had a lot of buyers lining up to get his merchandise. Caleb had told him that the police thought Leo was working for someone else. They had no idea that he was the mastermind.
That made Leo furious. Everyone was constantly underestimating him because they didn't think he was smart. He would prove them all wrong. He would be king of the fucking world.
