BK 5 - Epilogue
**Five Years Later**
Cat and Trey looked around at their family. They were having a birthday party for Cat. She was ninety years old even though she looked no more than fifty to the human world.
"We met sixty-six years ago. Can you believe none of this would be here if you hadn't been assigned to my case? Now, we have group homes all over the country, and we've helped so many children find a new path. Just like you did for me. I was so scared back then. I was scared of Leo, scared of people touching me, but most of all scared of letting anyone get close to me. My mom had been the only person who ever cared for me until I met you. It terrified me to let you into my heart because I didn't want to feel the pain of that loss again. I can't imagine what my life would have been like if I never met you. You gave me so much over the years. I love you, Trey."
Cat's tears streamed down her face as she stared at the man who changed everything for her. They had lost Roger and Valerie as well as countless friends, but through it all, they'd had each other. Trey hugged her as he fought back his tears. He could still see Cat as the young woman he had followed before she knew he existed. He had fallen in love with her the moment he laid eyes on her and knew she was his mate. No matter what she had thought of herself, he knew she was the strongest person he had ever met.
"I love you, too. All of what we have isn't because of me, it's because of you. The way you make people feel draws them to you and makes them want to be better just to see you smile. When those hunters were fighting with us and trying to kill us, you brought them to their knees. You have Satan's respect for crying out loud. Who else can say that? Cat, you're the most incredible person I have ever known, and I'm proud to call myself your mate and husband." Trey leaned down to kiss her. Their passion for each other had grown even more.
"Grandma Cat, are you ready?" Penelope asked. She was ten now and was beginning to understand the power she had, but was still unsure what the future would hold.
"Yes," Cat said. She and Trey held hands as they followed Penelope.
She had told everyone that she didn't want a bunch of gifts, the only thing she wanted was for her family to be together. However, they had decided to do something special for her too. They had seen how much Grandma Cat had liked the mural Dexter and Raylee had made for Valerie on her birthday, so they made two for her. The first one had pictures of the entire family, with room to add more. The second one had pictures of all the children she had helped in the group homes. There were hundreds of them. They had made it like a timeline starting with the first two children she helped in the hospital, Kayla and Carlos.
Cat studied each picture as she cried. She remembered every child in those pictures. Each one had a story that she and her family had a hand in changing.
"I love them," Cat said as she walked to the end of the long mural where there was space for the future children. Those empty spots made her heart hurt. How many children were there out there right now needing them, who thought there was no one who would help them? She knew their work was far from over.
Emma and Asher watched Grandma Cat and Grandpa Trey looking over the murals. They were holding their four-year-old twins, Corrina and Rosella. Emma had gone into heat right after the battle, as did most of the others who had been newly mated.
Roger and Mariam's four-year-old son's name is Vito, and they have another cub due within the next month. Cameron and Jamie have a three-year-old daughter named Tawnee. Kilia is Dexter and Raylee's four-year-old daughter. Xavier and Kate have a son who will be four in a few days, and his name is Jayson. Maxie and Buddy's two-year-old daughter's name is Jaida. Laurie and Brian's four-year-old son is Emery. Braxton is Nathan and Isla's three-year-old son. Marcy and Dorian have a two-year-old daughter named Dahlia. Chantra and Johnny's two-year-old daughter's name is Kaci. Russ and Pricilla have a three-year-old son named Scotty. Samson and Lidia's daughter's name is Tori. Some of them have moved away from California to start group homes in other parts of the country, but they all had come home for Grandma Cat's birthday.
"These are beautiful," Kitty said, as she, Aiden, Janel, and Thatcher joined Cat and Trey.
"They really are. Everyone did an amazing job." Cat said with a smile. The three couples had been together through everything. No matter what happened, they knew they could count on each other.
As the party came to an end, people began to leave. Cat and Trey stayed until everyone else was gone.
"Did you enjoy your party?" Trey asked her as they drove home.
"You know I love it when we can get the entire family together. It's a reminder of where we've been, where we are, and where we're going. I'm thankful that we're able to enjoy our family for centuries rather than just a few years. I will never get enough of seeing what they will all accomplish." Cat reached over and took Trey's hand.
They had been through a lot and would have more hurdles to overcome. One thing was for certain, their love would always get them through. The werelion family has grown so large with multiple species and races. Cat and Trey welcomed everyone with open arms no matter where they had come from. Their hearts were big enough to love all mankind. They are the epitome of goodness, which is why they are targeted by those who are evil. What scares people more than anything? People who don't see the differences in others, but embrace them because of those differences. The werelion family practices acceptance every day.
In each story of this series, we had examples of real-life situations with a supernatural spin on them. Don't let the magic and fantasy blur the lines of reality. All of these situations are happening right now, and many turn a blind eye, but it's time to make a change. Don't ignore the things that are going on right in front of you. Be the voice that a child needs in the darkness. Be the hand a woman or man needs to get out of an abusive situation. Above all, be the light to guide those who are lost. Be Cat and Trey and love with your whole heart. Always remember to let others know they are not alone.
