BK 5 - Chapter 59 - Isla and Liam's Results

*"Grandma Cat, can you let me know when Morgan gets here. I want to see if he'll test Isla's DNA too. I have a feeling there's more to her than even she knows."* Nathan mindlinked her. Isla was still lying against his chest.

*"He should be here in a few minutes. How is Isla?"* Cat mindlinked as she watched Penelope try to convince Karalee she was small enough to fit inside her kangaroo's pouch.

*"She's better, but it's going to be a long road. At least she's letting me comfort her, and she said she'll accept me."* Nathan kissed Isla's forehead, and she smiled slightly.

*"That's good. Let me know if you want to come here or if you want me to send Morgan to you,"* Cat replied.

"A man is coming to check the DNA of a man who's staying here to see if he's related to our family. Will you let him take some of your blood to test your DNA, too?" Nathan asked Isla softly. She sat up slightly to look into his eyes.

"Why do you want him to test me? I'm just a werewolf." She asked him with confusion. She couldn't imagine what reason he would have for checking her DNA.

"Don't ever say you're just a werewolf. You're beautiful and one of the strongest women I have ever met. I believe there was a reason the pack that had you didn't rape you. Morgan may be able to find out what pack you're from, at least." Nathan explained. Isla thought about it for a moment. She would like to know where she came from.

"Okay, I'll do it. Will you stay with me?" she asked, laying her head against his chest again.

"Of course. Do you want to go to the main house, or would you rather have Morgan come here?" Isla bit her lip nervously. She wanted to stay in the pool house and hide from everyone else, but she was tired of being scared of everything. Maybe with Nathan by her side, she would be okay.

"We can go to the main house just please don't leave me when we're there." She couldn't believe she had become so dependent on him in less than a day. He made her feel safe, and that's what Isla needed.

"I won't leave you ever," Nathan replied, kissing her forehead.

When they got out of bed, it was past noon. Grandma Cat said they were going to have a barbecue for lunch, so they headed to the main house. Isla gripped his hand tightly as they got closer. Everyone was outside while Grandpa Trey and Alex worked the grills. Petra saw Isla and Nathan coming and walked over to check on her. She was pleased to see her holding Nathan's hand.

"How are you doing?" Petra asked Isla.

"I'm a lot better now. Thanks to Nathan," she replied, smiling slightly. They all turned when they heard someone running in their direction.

"Hello, are you Isla? Are you Uncle Nathan's mate? You're so pretty. I'm Princess Penelope." Isla stared at the little pup with wide eyes. She was a little ball of energy, but luckily, Isla was comfortable around kids. It was adults that she was skittish of. She held her hand out to Penelope.

"It's nice to meet you, Princess Penelope. Yes, I'm Isla, and I'm Nathan's mate. Should I bow to you or curtsy?" she asked with a smile. Penelope started giggling when she took her hand.

"I'm not really a princess. Can you change colors and do cool stuff, too?" Penelope asked, pulling Isla towards picnic tables where the others were.

"What do you mean?" She asked.

"Petra showed me some of her magic. Can you do that, too?" The pup asked excitedly. Isla and Petra looked at each other in confusion.

"I'm just an ordinary wolf. I don't have any magic." Isla said. Penelope shook her head.

"No, you're not. You feel different, just like when Petra touches me." Penelope said before running off. Isla, Nathan, and Petra watched her in shock.

"I don't know what she's talking about," Isla said, squeezing Nathan's hand.

"Well, maybe we can find out. Here comes Morgan and Adelma." Nathan replied. Lisa and Adelma had a decent relationship, but Lisa was never able to call her mom. Melanie and Saxon were her parents, but she still loved Adelma.

Morgan took blood from both Liam and Isla. He had a new portable lab, so he didn't have to leave to run the results. He set everything up inside the house and said he should have news for both of them within a couple of hours.

When Isla and Nathan went back outside, she was a little overwhelmed by the amount of people there. At first, she was going to ask Nathan if they could return to the pool house, but then she saw Penelope and Grandma Cat waving at her.

"Come here, Isla. I saved you a seat." Penelope said, patting the spot next to her at the picnic table. Everyone had told her that Isla might be nervous around so many people, so Penelope said she would take care of her. Isla and Nathan made their way over to the pup and sat down. Penelope took her hand and smiled.

"It's okay. I won't let anything happen to you," she said softly. Isla was so overwhelmed by the little girl's sweetness that her eyes stung with tears.

"Thank you," she replied to Penelope as Nathan put his arm around her shoulders. Cat smiled at them from across the table, where she sat with Kitty and Janel.

"Are you doing okay in the pool house?" She asked Isla.

"Yes, thank you." She replied, looking down. Isla still felt out of place with so many people, no matter how kind they were to her.

"Trey and I stayed there for a while. I had a hard time being around people, and I didn't like to be touched by anyone other than Trey. Roger and Valerie let us stay there while I tried to heal from everything that was done to me as a child and into adulthood. I hope the house offers the same sanctuary it did me. Just remember, Isla, you're not alone. Many of us have come from horrible backgrounds until we mated into the family. I was a human before I met Trey. About a third of our family was human. We're here for you." Isla looked up and met Grandma Cat's eyes. She wasn't touching her, but the look she gave her made her feel like she was being hugged. She really did understand. Isla smiled, but she couldn't speak.

A few minutes later, they ate lunch, and just as they were finishing, Morgan and Adelma came outside. Liam and Isla looked at them expectantly, waiting for the results.

"Are you both okay with us sharing the results here, or would you rather do it privately?" Morgan asked them.

"I'm fine out here," Liam answered, holding Karalee's hand. He already felt like he was part of the family, but he hoped he was tied to them by blood, too.

"I'm okay here, too," Isla replied. Penelope held one of her hands while Nathan wrapped his arm around her. She wasn't expecting her results to show anything other than she was a normal wolf.

"Liam, your results confirm that you are related to Cat and the caladrius side of her family. If I traced it correctly, her great-grandfather on her dad's side had siblings, and you're the great-grandson of one of those siblings. I can't tell which one yet, but I'll let you know once I do. It will take just a little more research." Morgan said, looking from Liam to Cat. Liam couldn't believe it was true. He had ties to this amazing family. Cat stood up and wrapped her arms around him.

"Even if you hadn't been related by blood, you would still have been part of this family. I'm so glad you have some answers now," she said, hugging him. Karalee wiped away her tears, seeing how happy Liam was. She knew how much it meant to him to find family.

"Thank you, Grandma Cat." He said softly.

"Isla, your results were a little more surprising," Morgan said. Everyone turned to look at her, and her face felt hot. Penelope stood on the picnic table seat and put her arm around Isla, forcing Nathan to lower his arm to her waist.

"What did you find?" Nathan asked.

"Isla, you're a werewolf, but you also have magic. Like Petra, you're from the Mystic Moonlighters Pack. In fact, you're her cousin."
