BK 5 - Chapter 63 - The New Arrivals

Everyone stared at the three mysterious people as Emma, Roger, Petra, and a hesitant Isla walked toward them. Isla had no idea how to use her magic but Petra pulled her along to show her that she was stronger than she gave herself credit for in case they needed to fight.

"Hello, werelion family. We come in peace," one of the men says before he and the other two people burst out laughing.

"Please ignore him. He wanted the dramatic entrance to make us look like aliens or something. My name is Chantra, and these are my brothers, Russ, the comedian, and Samson. Selene reached out to our family to see if we could help. We're the only three unmated, so we jumped at the chance to get out of the mountains." Chantra was beautiful, with long waist-length blonde hair and pale blue eyes. Russ had the same blonde hair, but it stopped at his shoulders. Samson had black hair and pale blue eyes like his siblings.

"Are you wolves?" Roger asked, still unsure how to take the three of them.

"No, we're dragons," Russ answered as he breathed out a massive ball of fire toward the sky.

"Wow. Can we see your dragons?" Penelope asked, pulling Gabi to the three new people. They smiled at the little pup and cub.

"Maybe we can show you somewhere else where we won't be noticed by your neighbors," Samson replied.

"I'm Princess Penelope, and this is Princess Gabi. Please follow us, and you can meet the rest of the family." The dragons looked at her and then at the family.

"We're in the presence of royalty. Thank you, Princess," Russ said as they followed her.

"The King and Queen are over there with the real Princesses and Princes. Gabi and I are just pretending." Penelope pointed at the royal family.

"Welcome to our family. I'm Cat, and this is my mate Trey. Selene said she was going to send some help; I never dreamt it would be dragons. Where are you from?" Cat asked them as they approached the tables where everyone was sitting.

"We live on Mount Everest. It's safer up there because we can fly around without too many chances of being seen. The few humans who saw us thought they were hallucinating." Chantra stopped talking when her eyes met those of a man standing across the yard from her. It was rare for dragons to mate with other shifters. She took a deep breath and realized he wasn't a shifter; he was human. Had she found her mate?

Johnny stared at Chantra, unable to speak or move. She was so beautiful he thought she was a figment of his imagination. When he saw her staring at him, his heart raced with excitement. He may not be a shifter, but he'd seen that look many times in the mated couples. Was it possible that he was mated to the dragon? Penelope looked at Chantra and grabbed her hand. She knew what was happening.

"Come on, we don't have time to stand here in Lala Land while you stare at each other. Someone is attacking us. You need to go to your mate. Can I watch you mark him?" she asked excitedly. Russ and Samson roared with laughter while Chantra looked at the pup in disbelief.

"Johnny, the human, this is Chantra, the dragon. I expect an answer before you run off to your lair," Penelope said as she left Chantra with Johnny and took Gabi back to the sandbox. Sherri watched her daughter and laughed. Penelope was the only one she'd seen with more energy than Gabi, and the little cub followed behind the pup happily to do whatever she said.

Chantra was a dragon, but she was petite, and when she looked up into Johnny's dark brown eyes, she felt like she couldn't breathe. He may be human, but he was built like a shifter.

"Am I really your mate?" Johnny asked her quietly. He had never been more thankful for Grandma Cat than he was at that moment when she told everyone to help her clean up and stop staring.

"Yes. If you're a human, why are you with the werelions?" Chantra asked. Johnny smiled, and her heart skipped a beat.

"My Grandma Atzi was a witch. She and my Grandpa Xipil died to save all of us. Her magic was transferred to Emma and Roger, who are part of this family. They took my brother and me in when our grandparents died." He explained. Chantra smiled, and her eyes sparkled.

"So I don't have to go into the whole explanation about shifters and how mating works. I guess the only question is whether you will accept me as your mate." Johnny didn't answer her. Instead, he leaned down and kissed her. The sparks that filled his body were more intense than he had imagined. Chantra put her arms around his neck and wept with joy. When Johnny pulled away, he wiped away her tears.

"Are you okay?" He held her against him, and Chantra nodded.

"I'm more than okay. I had hoped I would find my mate when we agreed to come here, but I never thought it would happen so quickly," she said as he kissed her again. Johnny slipped his tongue into her mouth, and Chantra moaned in pleasure.

"There are children here," Penelope yelled from the sandbox, pointing at Johan and Gabi. Johnny and Chantra's faces turned red while some of the others laughed.

"So, what exactly is coming for your family? Selene just said it could be bad and could be the end of all shifters. She's reaching out to people all over the world to help." Chantra asked as they joined the others.

"We don't know exactly other than they're coming from the underworld, and Satan can't help us until they attack," Johnny replied. All the heaviness in his heart from being alone was gone. He couldn't stop staring at Chantra, knowing she was his mate. Waiting for her for so long seemed worth it now. Grandma Cat winked at him, and he beamed at her. She was right. People do find their mates when they need them the most.

"Well, I guess we'll be ready for them when they come. Selene said she admired the werelion family more than any other because of all the good they do for humans and shifters. We spend all our time in the mountains. It makes it hard to find our mates when we don't go anywhere. Do you want me to mark you right away, or do you want to wait?" Chantra asked. Johnny didn't hesitate.

"I want you to mark me as soon as possible." He replied.

"Do it now so we can watch. How do dragons mark their mates?" Penelope asked, pulling Gabi over to the new couple.

"How are you able to sneak up on people?" Johnny asked her. Penelope giggled, and Gabi giggled with her even though she had no idea what was funny.

"That's my superpower. Princess Penelope the spy." She replied.

"I believe it," Johnny said, turning back to Chantra. "It's up to you when and where you want to do it. Don't let the little pup talk you into anything."

"We can do it here. Although are you ready so soon? You don't need to think about it?" Chantra asked, even as her mouth watered to bite into his neck.

"There's nothing to think about. I want you, and I've been waiting for you. I knew I had a mate out there somewhere, so I held on to the same values that my shifter family taught me." Chantra looked at him in disbelief.

"You've never been with anyone? That's rare when we mate with a human." She said, being careful with her words in front of the two little ones watching them eagerly.

"Like I said, I've been waiting for you. Bite me and make me yours." Johnny said, tilting his head. Penelope clapped her hands excitedly.

"Watch, Gabi. This is how a dragon marks a human," she whispered to the cub. Chantra chuckled as she bit into Johnny's neck. His legs buckled as his eyes closed. He could feel sparks and warmth filling his body, and he felt like crying. Finally, everything he had hoped for was coming true. When Chantra pulled back, he kissed her.

"I love you," he whispered against her lips. She smiled and threw her arms around him.

"I love you too."
