BK 3 - Chapter 31 - Returning Home
Melanie was still staring at her mom's phone in shock. She knew Belinda and her heart was breaking seeing her raped and killed by that sick monster. She looked at her mom and dad, knowing all hell was getting ready to break loose. They didn't tolerate anyone hurting their family, and the kids they rescued were part of their family.
"What are we going to do?" She asked her parents.
"He thinks he can kill one of our kids and get away with it. I don't think so. Wesley, call your mom and dad. We need more shifters. Get as many alphas and lunas on board as we can. They're threatening our existence and using our people as their toys. It stops now." Cat looked around the room in anger. "We need to go back to California and stop him."
"I'm calling Daniella and telling her to bring her group back here," Trey said, picking up his phone.
Wesley called his parents and told them what was happening. They were appalled they hadn't been notified sooner. They agreed to talk to the alpha and luna of their pack and get as many other packs to help as possible.
"Okay, the wolf packs are being assembled. Do you know any other shifters that can help?" Wesley looked around the room. Werewolves were the only shifters who typically stayed in packs; the rest were more independent. Several people took out their phones to begin making calls.
"Daniella and her group are on their way back. She said there wasn't any movement there anyway. Wesley, can you get us all on a flight to California?" Trey asked.
"It will be arranged. Everyone pack and meet back down here in an hour. I'll go to the people we just rescued and see if they want to come or stay." Everyone went their separate ways to get ready to leave. Alex and Lisa ran behind Melanie and Saxon as they headed to their room to pack.
"We're going to California now?" Lisa asked excitedly.
"Yes. How are you two holding up? This has been a lot for you in only a few days." Melanie asked them as they walked into their room. It broke her heart when they shrugged nonchalantly.
"We saw lots of bad things when we were in cages. At least now we have a family. Our family is the best because they let us help and don't treat us like babies." Lisa said, grinning up at Melanie and Saxon. Alex was nodding in agreement next to her.
"We're lucky to have two incredible cubs in our family," Melanie said before kissing each of them on the head. They all quickly packed their things and made sure nothing was left behind.
"This has been a rollercoaster of a week. I'm glad we're going home, but I wish it was on our terms and not because a madman is trying to kill the people we love." Melanie said to Saxon, wrapping her arms around him. She needed the comfort of his touch. She was exhausted, but there was no time to rest. Hopefully, they could all get some sleep on the plane.
"At least we'll be on our turf, and we should have an army waiting when we land. Raul isn't going to know what hit him. Is everyone ready?" Saxon looked at the cubs, who nodded. When he opened the door, he stopped Melanie so he could kiss her. Not a deep one, just one to satisfy them for a while.
"I needed that." She said with a smile.
"So did I." He smiled and put his arm around her as they walked to the elevator. When they got to the conference room, Daniella's group had just returned and were going to their rooms to pack. Saxon's grizzly friend Mario walked over when he saw them.
"Did I hear that this Raul guy killed one of the kids that were rescued by your mom?" He asked Melanie.
"Yeah, and he said he's going to keep killing them until he gets us. Are you coming with us to California?" She asked, hoping he said yes. They could use some big bears in their corner.
"I'm not letting you all fight without me. Besides, who else can carry the cubs on their shoulders like I can?" He leaned over and scooped up Alex and Lisa, putting one on each shoulder. Alex squealed with delight, but Lisa looked appalled.
"I don't like you picking me up without asking." She said, looking at the werebear angrily. Wesley laughed, happy that the lioness's fury was directed at someone else. Mario, on the other hand, was taken aback.
"Please accept my apologies, little miss." Mario put them back down and bowed slightly to Lisa, but she just glared at him.
"Don't call me little either." She said before turning around to walk over and sit next to Jade, who was in her carrier.
"Wow, that is one sassy little lion." He said, shaking his head at Lisa.
"Yeah, she seems to have an issue with most men. I'm pretty sure it's because it was men who were keeping them in cages." Melanie answered, looking at Lisa, who was rubbing Jade's little hand.
"I can't blame her then. I'm going to get my bags." Mario headed off to the elevator.
Once everyone was assembled, they were taken to the airport. All the rescued shifters from the auction, warehouse, and farmhouse went with them. Wesley had arranged for another commercial flight to take them to Sacramento.
When they landed, Wesley had made arrangements at a large Sacramento hotel owned by a werebear family. They made their human guests leave, stating there was a plumbing emergency. They opened it up for all the shifters, vampires, and everyone else who was coming.
"Everyone, go to your rooms and rest. We'll meet downstairs tomorrow morning. I know we all want to get started right away, but we have more people coming, and we need a plan before we attack." Wesley looked around. There were mixed emotions, but everyone eventually left for their rooms.
"What about the other kids we've rescued? What if he's with one now?" Cat asked anxiously.
"As soon as you gave me access to your records, I sent an agent to each one in the area. As far as we can tell, Raul is still here. His private jet is still at the airport." Wesley reassured her.
"Thanks, Wesley," Cat hugged him before leaving.
Melanie, Saxon, and the cubs went to their two-bedroom suite. The cubs ran into the smaller bedroom and unpacked their clothes while Saxon and Melanie went to theirs to do the same.
"Maybe we can have some alone time once we get them tucked in," Melanie said, wrapping her arms around Saxon.
"That would be great. I love them, but I want you to myself for a while." He kissed her lightly, pulling her against him.
"Let's get the cubs fed and bathed. They should be ready to pass out after that. Then we can come back here, and I can make up for all the time I refused to acknowledge you were my mate." Melanie slid her hand under his shirt and stroked his muscular back, feeling his body react to her touch.
"You don't have anything to make up for. I'm just glad you didn't reject me." Saxon kissed her again deeper, stroking her tongue with his. He pulled back when he started to forget they weren't alone.
"I would have never rejected you. Now let's take care of them so I can take care of you." Melanie said with a smirk before walking out of the room.
Lisa and Alex were waiting for them, and before they could decide on what to have for dinner, someone was knocking on the door. When Saxon answered, it was room service with trays of food and some blood for him that he needed badly.
Once they had eaten, Melanie bathed the cubs while Saxon took a shower. When he was done, he took over and put Alex and Lisa to bed while Melanie showered.
After showering, she pulled out her matching red lace thong and bra set. Melanie would have liked to have something new, but she figured what she had would do. When she heard Saxon come into the bedroom and shut the door, she took a deep breath. What if he thought she was foolish? She stopped doubting herself when Chika rolled her eyes and growled for her to get moving.
Saxon looked up from where he was pacing when Melanie came out of the bathroom. He had planned to tell her they didn't need to do anything tonight if she wasn't ready, but every thought he had went out of his head when he saw her.
Melanie grinned when she saw Saxon's reaction. Walking over to him, she ran her fingers slowly up his arm making him shiver. When his eyes met hers, she smiled.
"We've been through a lot this past week. I know this probably should be the furthest thing from our minds right now, but after all the pain and heartache we've had recently, I need something to feel good. Being with you makes me feel good, and right now, I want you to make love to me. I want to forget everything that's happened for a little while and only focus on us. What do you want, Sax?" Melanie kept her eyes on his so he knew she meant every word.
"I want you too, more than anything." Saxon wrapped his arms around her, bringing his mouth to hers. Before she knew what was happening, he picked her up and laid her on the bed. Melanie watched as he removed his clothing, leaving him in nothing but his boxers. She licked her lips and reached for him.
"Lay down, Sax; it's time for me to show you how happy I am to be your mate."
