BK 5 - Chapter 4 - Intentions

"I'm going to let you speak, and you're not going to scream, are you?" Lisa asked their captives. They looked at Malia and then back at Lisa, shaking their heads. She took their gags off and stood back.

"Now, why the hell did you break into our house?" She asked. She barely had the words out of her mouth when the man started speaking.

"She made me do it because she wanted that book. She thinks you have something else hidden here, too, but she won't tell me what it is. She said to look for something old that doesn't look like it belongs. Please don't kill me; it's not my fault it's hers." Lisa looked from him to the woman, who stared at him angrily.

"What's your name?" Alex asked as he rubbed his hand over Malia's back.

"Mine is Randy, and hers is Jackie." Randy looked from Alex to the bear and back again. He didn't know which was scarier.

"Will you shut the fuck up? If you tell them everything, we won't have anything to negotiate with to get out of this." Jackie yelled at him.

"Take a look around. Do you really think they're going to let us walk away? It's every man for himself." Randy replied. Lisa smiled; he may be a moron, but at least he had some common sense.

"Randy's right. My sister over there was in the house alone when he broke in. She was terrified, thinking he was here to kill her." Lisa pointed toward the bear, and Randy's face turned white. He'd thought no one was home.

"I wouldn't have hurt you. I'm sorry I scared you. I didn't think anyone was here." Kiersten looked at the man through Malia's eyes, and she believed him.

*"I believe him. I think he was a pawn in whatever game she's playing."* She mindlinked Alex.

*"I agree; he's too dumb to do something like this without someone pulling his strings."*

"We believe you. Now, why did you want that book, and where is it?" Alex asked Randy.

"It disappeared when I was on my way to the boat. It was in my hands one second and gone the next. Once I got away from the police, I searched for it, but I knew I didn't drop it. I don't know why she wants it. Jackie said she's been wanting that book for years." He replied. Everyone turned to Jackie.

"So, would you like to enlighten us? Why did you send him here to get this book, terrifying my sister, and why do you think we have something hidden?" Lisa asked as she pulled up a chair so she could look at her eye to eye. Jackie swallowed nervously.

"That's none of your business." She looked away and suddenly felt hot breath in her face. When she turned to see what it was, the grizzly was only inches away and let out a loud roar. Randy nodded next to her.

"You better tell them, or you're going to be bear food. I don't know about you, but I don't feel like getting eaten tonight." Lisa tried not to laugh. Randy was young and dumb, but he was kind of hilarious.

"Listen to the kid," Lisa said. Randy scowled.

"I'm not a kid; I'm nineteen," He said, looking down.

"Well, you're younger than everyone here. I mean almost everyone. She's eighteen." Lisa looked at Jade. Randy also looked, and his eyes widened as he smiled at her.

"Wow, you're beautiful. After I get out of here, can I take you to dinner?" Jade stopped Bill from jumping on him.

"Sorry, but I'm already taken." She put her arms around Bill, and he calmed down, smirking at Randy.

"Now that the little show is over let's get back to business. Why did you want Atzi's book?" Lisa asked, looking at Jackie. The woman scowled at her.

"I said it's none of your damn business." She yelled at her. Lisa stood up and patted Malia's head.

"Malia, why don't you show her it is our business?" Randy watched, fascinated, as Malia walked over and put her mouth around Jackie's hands that were tied in front of her. Jackie started to scream as the bear began to bite down.

"Okay, okay, fine, I'll tell you, please don't bite me." She pleaded as Malia's teeth touched her skin. Lisa patted her head, and she backed up, but only slightly. Malia kept her mouth open and her eyes on Jackie.

"Speak," Lisa said, sitting back down in front of Jackie. Jayce stood back and watched his mate. She was incredible, and he could already picture her in the courtroom.

"This is why Lisa always gets what she wants; she knows exactly what buttons to press," Patrick whispered so Lisa couldn't hear him. He still felt like he had ants crawling all over him just from her threat. Jayce smiled and kept his eyes on her.

"Part of my family is from Atzi's tribe. My great-great-grandfather was the chief until he got overthrown due to that witch's family taking over. That book she has made them powerful, and I want it so I can have that power. I should be leading that tribe, not her family." Lisa looked at the pale woman with blonde hair and blue eyes.

"I'm sorry, but I can't see any resemblance to the people from that tribe." She said. Jackie scoffed.

"We'll I take after my mom, and she's not from the tribe. I get the Native American from my dad's side." She said, rolling her eyes. Lisa felt like slapping the entitled bitch.

"That book isn't yours; it's where it belongs. What else do you think we have here?" Lisa asked as she sat back and crossed her legs.

"There are also relics from the tribe, and they're meant to keep people safe. I want those along with the book and will do everything necessary to get them. When you let me go, I'm going to the tribe and taking what's mine." Breanne and Dustin put their hands over the necklaces with the turquoise stones that Xipil had given them. They believed those were the relics Jackie was talking about, but they weren't going to say anything.

"I'm sorry, but no one said you were leaving. We're not letting you go anywhere. You see, one thing we love about this house that many houses in California don't have. It has a basement. It's dark, damp, and full of bugs, so I think it will be perfect for a bitch like you." Lisa stuffed the gag back in Jackie's mouth. She then turned to Patrick with a smirk. "Would you like to take our guest to the basement?"

"What? Why me?" He asked nervously. He didn't like basements because of the reasons she just said. All the bugs that you couldn't see. She was picking on him, wasn't she? Patrick was sweating bullets; he was going to have to do it just so he wouldn't look like a fool.

"Maybe it would be better for Dustin and Breanne to make her comfortable. They are the closest to Atzi and Xipil." Lisa chuckled when she saw Patrick sigh in relief. One day, he was going to wake up covered in ants. She owed him, and she always got her payback.

Dustin picked up Jackie, and Breanne followed him to the basement. They retied her hands, putting them behind her back and tying her feet. After ensuring the gag was tied tightly around her mouth, they sat her on the floor and turned the light off.

"Sweet dreams," Breanne said as she shut the door. They returned to the living room, where Randy was looking around nervously.

"What are you going to do with me?" He asked anxiously. Malia went into the bedroom and shifted back to Kiersten. After getting dressed, she walked out holding Alex's hand.

"That depends on you. What do you think we should do? You terrified my sister and broke into our house." Lisa asked him. Randy looked at Kiersten and realized she was blind. He felt horrible. His grandmother, who'd raised him, was blind, and he knew how hard her life was before she died last year. He lived in a hotel, paying by the day when he could make a little money. If he didn't make any, he slept on the street. Jackie was supposed to give him a thousand dollars for that book.

"I don't know. It doesn't matter; I have nowhere to go anyway." He looked down at his feet. Lisa and the others exchanged a look. He was like them. Someone without anyone. Lisa took Kiersten's hand.

"What do you think, sis?" She asked her. Kiersten had the sweetest disposition of all of them. She squeezed Lisa's hand and smiled.

"I think we could use some help around the house since everyone's so busy. It would be nice to have some company, so you all don't have to rearrange your schedules like I overheard you talking about earlier. I think you forget my hearing is better than most because I can't see. So maybe we could let Randy crash on the couch and help out here. What do you think?" Randy looked up in shock. She was offering him a place to stay as long as he helped around the house.

"What do you say, kid?" Lisa asked. She figured the family could always use a few more people.

"I can't believe you're being so kind to me after what I did. I promise to do everything I can to prove I'm really not a jerk. I would love to do whatever you need. Thank you." Randy felt foolish when his eyes stung with tears, but no one was ever nice to him. He had to fight for everything.

"This is your one shot, so don't screw it up. We'll get you some blankets for the couch and something to change into." Lisa said. She and Jayce went to their room, and she took a pair of Jayce's sweats and a T-shirt. She could tell Randy didn't have everything, and she'd make sure he had some clothes tomorrow. He was a lost kid who went wayward. They'd set him straight. After getting him settled on the couch, everyone went to bed.

**Albuquerque, New Mexico**

Atzi looked at the book in her hands. They were coming for them. She knew it was only a matter of time. If they were able to get a hold of the book, the time had come. She needed to warn the young people. Those that want the book are not what they seem.
