BK 2 - Chapter 70 - The Ending
Two weeks after finding out they were having a cub, Kitty and Aiden were getting ready for their wedding. It was late autumn, so the weather was cool, and the trees were in the beginning stages of changing to vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows.
Kitty didn't want any tents or anything fancy. They were using two trees that stood close together as an altar. The trees were wrapped in yellow roses. A small runner was leading to the trees, but there were no chairs. Everyone was okay with standing.
After the ceremony, Kitty and Aiden wanted a barbecue. Roger and Trey were more than willing to take control of the grills. Kitty thought of this day as more of a celebration of life, love, and freedom than a wedding.
She was inside the house putting on her dress, which was elegant but simple. The white dress had been altered to fit her snuggly. It was made of silk and stopped at her ankles with a little flare. It was off the shoulder with long sleeves. The only decoration was the white veil and headband that Cat had worn with the seashell sequins at her wedding.
"You look absolutely breathtaking," Cat said as she walked up behind her in her dark green maid of honor dress.
"Thank you. You look amazing too." The two young women hugged each other as they looked in the mirror. Both of them had left their hair long. Sandie, Max, and the kids walked into the room smiling. Gracie was the flower girl, Wesley was the ring bearer, and Max was walking her down the aisle.
"Look at my baby girl. I can't believe you're getting married and have a cub on the way." Sandie hugged her daughter, trying to keep her tears from falling.
"I know it's all happening so fast. I'm glad you could come with such short notice." Kitty hugged the two kids and Max.
"We wouldn't have missed this for the world." Max felt honored that she had asked him to walk her down the aisle.
"Alright, everyone, it's time to go," Valerie said from the door.
Cat and Sandie walked out first. Cat took Trey's arm, and they walked out the back door. Wesley followed, carrying the rings. Once they joined Aiden at the altar, Gracie came down the aisle, tossing her flower petals. When the wedding march started, everyone turned toward the door, and out walked Kitty on Max's arm.
Aiden felt his heart speed up in his chest as he watched Kitty walking down the aisle in her white gown. She looked so beautiful it took his breath away.
Kitty stared at Aiden in his black tuxedo, looking like a male model. His blonde hair was styled, and he was so handsome it should be a sin. She smiled as Max placed her hand in Aiden's. The same pastor who officiated Cat and Trey's wedding was also doing theirs. After he said his piece, he turned toward the couple to say their vows. Kitty went first.
"You came into my life at a time I thought I was on a path to death. The first time I met you, I knew that there was something different about you. I was living on the streets, feeling as though I was lower than the dirt beneath my feet. You pulled me out of the dirt and showed me there was another way. I can never repay you for everything you've done for me, but I will spend the rest of my life trying. I love you with all my heart." Everyone had tears in their eyes hearing Kitty's vows. Aiden had a hard time finding his voice after she was done, and it was his turn.
"I never thought I would find my other half, and she would be this remarkable woman whose strength is mightier than a lion's. You leave me speechless every day with your heart, beauty, and strength. I will spend the rest of my days cherishing you the way you deserve. My heart is yours, and I will be your faithful servant for the rest of my life. I love you." He bent down to kiss her as the tears ran down their faces.
Wesley gave them the rings, and they both said I do. Afterward, Aiden gave Kitty a deep kiss sealing their commitment to each other. Everyone then went into the house to change clothes and prepare for the barbecue. Thatcher had been looking forward to this day. It was his first time going to a wedding.
Janel was talking with Cat and Kitty in excitement. Thatcher was going to take her away and change her. He wanted to do it somewhere remote so he could help her get used to being a vampire so she wouldn't crave the blood of humans. Once that was under control, they would return to Sacramento and find a house for them to settle down in.
Daniella talked with Valerie while Chip was with the men at the grill. The two women had similar careers and understood each other. Daniella and Chip had decided to move to Sacramento to be closer to her brothers, who she had never had the opportunity to get to know. She was helping at the group home for the time being.
Daniella was thoroughly impressed with Cat and Kitty. She had never met two women that were more selfless than those two. Everything they did was to benefit others. Now that she had gotten to know them and learned about their pasts, it made her feel horrible about how her family treated them.
Their two cubs, Hilary and Michael, were about the same age as Gracie and Wesley, so they were all playing together, comparing lions and wolves. Sandie and Max sat back, taking it all in, happy that everything was coming together. Finding Kitty had made their family complete. Who knew it would include lions.
Kitty went to find her husband after they were done eating and pulled him away from everyone else. She loved her family but wanted to spend time with her mate. When they got to the back of the yard, where no one could see them, she pulled his face to hers.
"I have been wanting to get you alone." She kissed him again as they hid among the trees.
"I can't believe you're my wife. How did I get so lucky to marry the most beautiful woman in the world?" Aiden felt his heart swell looking into her glowing face.
"I think you're slightly biased, but I'll accept your compliment. When I saw you that first day at the soup kitchen, I never thought you would change my life and my whole world as I know it. Thank you for showing me how great living can be." She put her arms around his neck.
"You're pretty spectacular, my wife. I know we're not having a honeymoon, but I promise to take you on a trip after the cub arrives. We'll take a family vacation wherever your heart desires." He kissed her forehead and cheeks before putting his hand on her flat belly. Aiden was looking forward to seeing her growing bump.
*"Hey, lovey-dovey humans, I thought you might like to know that you're having a girl cub,"* Zola said as she tried to hold in her excitement. She had been waiting for the day when she could tell what they were having.
*"What? Zola, are you sure?"* Kitty asked as she put her hands over Aidens on her belly.
*"Yes. I have a feeling she's going to be a lot like you, Kitty."* Zola smiled, thinking that there was no one better than her human. She and Harley couldn't wait to see their little cub.
Kitty and Aiden hugged each other in excitement and then returned to the rest of their family to tell them the good news. Everyone cheered and hugged the newlyweds. It was another new beginning, and they were looking forward to what the future would hold.
