BK 5 - Chapter 64 - The Power of Love
Leviathan's face lit up with a sinister smile as he hung up the phone. The pieces of their plan were falling into place for the impending attack on the werelion family. The more members of the family mated, the stronger their bond, and the more devastating it would be when he turned their mates against them.
His biggest hurdle would be trying to get everything done before Satan decided to show his ugly face. Leviathan had to defeat the family and all the help they had so he could take over Earth. If Satan got there before that happened, everything he worked for would have been all for nothing.
He did some calculations on how long it would take to get everything into place. He would attack in two days. Leviathan called Sozgath and Zannan back. Now that he had a plan, it was time to start moving the pieces.
"Hello?" Zannan answered, putting the phone on speaker.
"Go to the underworld and spread the word that we attack in two days. Make sure Satan doesn't catch wind of it. When you come back, continue watching the family." Leviathan disconnected the call and smiled. It was almost time to get everything he wanted.

Emma and Asher were sitting alone on a swing in one of the gardens. There had been so much going on that they felt like they'd hardly had any time alone.
"Are you still okay with all of this?" Emma signed. Asher kissed her before answering.
"I'm fine with everything. Your family is incredible, and I will do anything to keep you and all of them safe," he replied.
*"Wow, our mate is beautiful."* Asher's eyes widen when he hears the voice in his head. He had never been able to hear anything his entire life, and it startled him.
"What's wrong?" Emma signed.
"I just heard a voice in my head. I heard it like I actually could hear the words," he replied. Emma smiled.
"That's probably your bear. Try to respond to him. Just think about the words you want to say, and he should hear you," she said.
*"Can you hear me?"* Asher felt weird thinking words and asking if his bear could hear him.
*"Yes, I can hear you. My name is Colby. The reason you were unable to hear was due to a defect in your inner ear. Luckily, because of the type of defect, now that I'm here and you are fully a shifter, you should be able to speak and hear. I blocked your hearing until I could explain this because I didn't want the overwhelming noises to frighten you. I'm going to remove the block. Tell me if you can hear now."* Colby lifted the hearing block, and Asher closed his eyes. He could hear birds chirping, people talking, a car passing by, and leaves rustling from the light breeze. He opened his eyes and looked at Emma as tears ran down his face. He took a deep breath.
*"Go ahead and talk to her."* Colby mindlinked gently.
"I can hear," he said. Emma gasped and began crying with him as she threw her arms around him.
"You can hear me?" She asked softly.
"Yes, I can hear you. Colby said the shifter blood was able to fix the defect in my ears." Asher couldn't believe all the sounds he could pick up on. When he heard a child giggling, he knew it was Penelope. He could pick up other voices but had no idea who they were.
"I wonder why it worked for you but not my mom," Emma said, kissing his cheek.
*"Tell her it depends on the defect. If it's something you were born with then many times it can be fixed. If it was caused by an injury or something else, it may not be able to be reversed."* Colby explained.
"Colby says that because it was a defect I was born with, it was able to be fixed. Your mom's blindness was caused by her mother, so that's not something shifter blood can fix." With every word he spoke, Asher's voice got stronger.
"Hey, what are you two doing over here?" Penelope ran up to them, making Asher jump. He smiled at her.
"I just got my bear and can hear you now," Asher said. Penelope's mouth fell open as she crawled onto his lap. Gabi had gotten sleepy, so her parents put her down for a nap.
"You can hear me and talk to me now?" She asked, putting her hands on his cheeks as though she was making sure he was real.
"Yes. My bear's name is Colby." Asher felt like crying again when Penelope wrapped her little arms around his neck and kissed his cheek.
"I can't wait until you shift into your bear. I love bears the most. Come on, we have to tell everyone else. This is something we should celebrate." Penelope jumped down and took Emma and Asher's hands to pull them up. They laughed as they stood and ran with her to the family.
"Everyone, we have something to celebrate," Penelope said as she stood on the seat of one of the picnic tables.
"Uh oh, are you in heat?" Lisa asked.
"No," Emma answered. She looked at Asher, and he smiled.
"I got my bear," he said. Everyone froze, and for a few seconds, it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Suddenly, they all started cheering and running over to hug him. Asher had tears stinging his eyes again as each person cried along with him. Kiersten came over to him last.
"I'm so glad you can hear us now," she hugged him tight. Asher felt bad knowing she would never get her vision.
"I'm sorry it didn't work for you." He whispered to her. Now that he could speak and hear, it was starting to feel natural. Asher was sure Colby was playing a hand in making the process as smooth as possible for him.
"Don't be sorry. Malia explained to me why it wasn't possible," Kiersten said, pulling away and kissing his cheek.
"So what are we going to do to celebrate?" Penelope asked, jumping into Asher's arms. Luckily, he was used to her doing that, so he was prepared to catch her.
"What do you think we should do?" Emma asked, playing with Penelope's curls and putting her arm around Ashton. Penelope smiled and looked at Laurie.
"I think Laurie should sing a song. Asher hasn't been able to hear her yet." Penelope did her best puppy dog eyes while sticking her little lip out. Laurie groaned, but her mate Brian and the others started laughing.
"Your cuteness isn't going to work on me," she said, even though she knew she would do it. No one could say no to Penelope.
"Are you saying that you're not going to sing for a man who just started to hear? I didn't think you were so rude. I guess we can just sit around and talk. I'm sorry, Asher, Laurie isn't the lion I thought she was." Penelope shook her head in disbelief.
"Oh, good grief, you little scoundrel," Laurie said under her breath. Penelope started giggling.
"Yay, I'll go get the karaoke machine. Come on, big bear, carry me into the house." Penelope said, holding onto Asher.
"How do you even know where it's at?" Laurie asked her. She rarely used the machine and only when no one was around. Penelope looked over Asher's shoulder and smiled.
"I'm little, and I can hide. I know lots of secrets." She replied as Asher carried her into the house. Everyone else stared after her, wondering what other secrets she knew.
A few minutes later, Asher and Penelope returned with the Karaoke machine. Laurie still wasn't entirely confident singing in front of people. She figured if she wanted to make it big one day, starting with her family was a good place to start.
"I think you should sing this one," Penelope said, pointing to a song listed. Laurie narrowed her eyes at her.
"Why this one?" She asked.
"I heard you sing it before, and your voice sounded really pretty." Penelope smiled at her sweetly, and Laurie melted just as she knew she would. She was sure the little pup could melt even the hardest of hearts.
"Okay," Laurie kissed Penelope's head, and everyone gathered around.
"The song she picked is actually a perfect one for all the mates we have now. Please bear with me. I'm not used to being put on the spot like this." She said as she got the machine ready. Brian kissed her, and her nervousness went away.
"You'll do great," he whispered to her. Laurie took a deep breath and started the machine.
*The whispers in the morning
Of lovers sleeping tight
Are rolling by like thunder now*
*As I look in your eyes*
*I hold on to your whole body
And feel each move you make
Your voice is warm and tender
A love that I could not forsake*
*'Cause I'm your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can*
*Lost is how I'm feeling lying in your arms
When the world outside's too much to take
That all ends when I'm with you*
*Even though there may be times
It seems I'm far away
Never wonder where I am
'Cause I am always by your side*
*'Cause I'm your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can*
*We're heading for something
Somewhere I've never been
Sometimes, I am frightened
But I'm ready to learn
Of the power of love*
*The sound of your heart beating
Made it clear suddenly
The feeling that I can't go on
Is light years away*
*'Cause I'm your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can*
*We're heading for something
Somewhere I've never been
Sometimes, I am frightened
But I'm ready to learn
Of the power of love
The power of love*
As Laurie finished the last lyrics of The Power of Love, there wasn't a dry eye. Many people there had been hurt in one way or another before becoming part of the family. The love from their mate helped them get through it. The power of love really was their best weapon because, without it, they would not be the family they were.
