BK 5 - Chapter 46 - Its Always Been You

Xavier drove Kate's car to her apartment after they read their letters. She was too upset to drive. He was upset, too, but he wanted to be alone with her and tell her about being a bear. He parked in front of her building and ran around to open the door for her. Kate took his offered hand and didn't let go after she was out.

"Thank you for driving and coming home with me. Even if you hadn't wanted to talk, I wouldn't want to be alone." She said, leading him inside and up to the second floor. Xavier locked the door once they were inside her apartment. It wasn't a huge place, but it was comfortable. He couldn't help but think it was very Kate.

"I'll order the pizza. Is Marco's still your favorite?" Xavier asked, pulling out his phone. Kate smiled slightly.

"It's still one of the few places that has green olives." She bit her lip while he ordered on the app. She was anxious to see what he had to say. Grandma Valerie said they were meant to be together, and he confirmed it, but she knew there was more to it than that.

"Please tell me what you need to before I combust from nervousness?" She asked. Xavier smiled and pulled her into his arms, breathing in her delicious scent. He closed his eyes to enjoy the moment when she wrapped her arms around him.

"Yes, we can talk now. I don't want you to combust after all, not from anticipation anyway." Xavier was proud of himself for his double innuendo comment. He wasn't used to flirting. Kate heard what he said and knew what he meant, but she was too embarrassed to say anything. Was he going to make her combust in another way? She hoped so.

He took her hand and led her over to the couch. He wanted her to sit on his lap but didn't want to seem pushy. Xavier felt she was on the same page as he was, but he didn't want to be too presumptive. He opted to have her sit against him, holding her hand.

"Grandma Valerie was right. I have always been into you and wanted more, but I was scared you saw me more as a brother. However, when I saw you today, I realized the universe had meant for us to be together all along. We just hadn't known it yet." Xavier looked down at Kate when she looked up at him.

"She was right about me always liking you, too, but I thought you only saw me as a sister or cousin. What do you mean about the universe wanting us to be together?" Kate bit her lip. Xavier leaned down and put his mouth on hers. They were still getting used to kissing, but it wasn't as awkward this time. Xavier wanted to slip his tongue into her mouth but decided he would wait until after she accepted him. Once he had a taste, it wouldn't be enough.

"My family and I are more than what we seem. I'm not human; I'm a werebear." Kate narrowed her eyes at Xavier to see if he was joking. When he continued to look at her nervously, she was confused.

"What exactly is a werebear?" She asked, keeping her eyes on his.

"I can change from human to a grizzly bear." Xavier hoped he didn't sound delusional. Kate tilted her head to the side and studied him. One thing about Xavier was that he never lied and had a clear head, but what he said didn't make sense.

"I'm just not understanding. Are you joking?" She asked.

"No. Let me show you." He took her hand and placed it on his chest. Kate heard a low growl and felt his chest vibrating under her hand.

"How are you doing that?" She asked, sliding her hand under his shirt to feel it better. Xavier shivered from the sparks of her cool hand touching his warm skin. Kate saw the effect she had on him and rubbed her hand over his chest and abs.

"That's my bear, Cesar," Xavier replied. He never knew the mate sparks would be so intense.

Kate took a deep breath, boldly climbed onto his lap, and straddled him. Looking into Xavier's eyes, she saw he was telling her the truth. It was unbelievable to her that he could change into a bear, but she wasn't going to doubt him.

"Can I meet him?" She asked, sliding her hands back under his shirt. This time, it wasn't to feel the vibration. It was because she wanted to touch him. Xavier put his hands on her waist and slid them under her shirt onto her back. Kate smiled as his warm hands sent sparks all over her body.

"Yes, you can meet him. I need to tell you something else," He said, moving his hands up and down her smooth back. He was trying to keep his erection under control, but it was hard. He was eighteen, and she was the first woman to touch him. Xavier figured he couldn't help his reaction. It was natural. Then, added to that was the feeling of the mate bond; he was lucky he hadn't already cum in his pants.

"What else do you need to tell me?" Kate asked, kissing his cheek. She wondered what he'd do if she pulled his shirt off. She knew she shouldn't be ready to jump into bed with Xavier, but it wasn't like they had just met on the street. She'd known him her whole life. Before she could raise his shirt, there was a knock on the door. Kate would have ignored it, but it was pizza with green olives. She jumped off his lap and ran to the door.

Xavier stayed where he was too scared to move, or she might see what was happening in his pants. However, when he saw the young delivery man not leaving after handing Kate the food, he made his way over and put his arm around her.

"Is there a problem?" He asked as he glared at the smiling man. His smile quickly vanished when he saw Xavier. He wasn't as big as his dad and brother, but Xavier was still bigger than the average man.

"Uh, no, I was just asking Kate if she was eating all that pizza alone." He looked from Kate to the large man staking his claim on her and knew he didn't have a chance.

"No, she's not eating alone. I'm eating with her. Goodbye." Xavier shut the door in his face, and Kate giggled.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to act like I was marking my territory." He said, keeping his arm on her as they went to the small kitchen table. Kate sat the box down and threw her arms around him.

"I like you doing that. It makes me feel wanted." She said softly. Xavier pulled away and looked into her eyes.

"I've always wanted you." He leaned down and kissed her. This time, he let his tongue play with her lips until she opened her mouth. When he felt her tongue tentatively touch his, he moaned in pleasure and plunged in even more, exploring every part of her mouth.

Kate was so blown away by the passionate kiss she didn't respond at first. She wrapped her arms around his neck while they tasted each other. Xavier lifted her up, and Kate wrapped her legs around him. She wanted to tell him to take her to the bedroom, but she wanted to hear what else he had to say first. When they pulled apart, they were both breathing heavily.

"Damn, Kate, why didn't we do this before?" Xavier asked, sliding his hands under her firm bottom.

"Well, we were kids, so it would have been frowned upon." She said with a smile. Xavier kissed her neck and sucked slightly, making her body ache for him even more.

"Let's eat and talk. Then maybe we can get back to this," Xavier said, kissing her again deeply. Kate was pretty sure she would never get tired of his kisses. She slowly put her legs down and slid down his body. She felt the bulge in his pants that pushed against her abdomen. It excited her that she did that to him.

She got them each a soda and pulled out some paper plates. Xavier laughed when he saw them. Kate always hated doing dishes, even with a dishwasher. Once they were seated and eating, Xavier figured it was time to tell her about being his mate.

"One thing about being a werebear or any other shifter is we have mates. Mates are the one person who is meant to be ours forever. When we find them, we feel an instant connection. Like sparks when we touch." Kate sat her pizza down to listen. She needed to hear this part because she felt it was going to change her life.

"So does that mean because I feel those sparks when we touch, I'm your mate?" She asked slowly. Xavier nodded.

"Yes, you're my mate. If you accept me as your mate, then I will mark you by biting into your neck. You will then become a werebear like me. Then we'll be together for the rest of our lives." Xavier watched her face brighten up. She jumped up, sat on his lap, and peppered his face with kisses.

"This went from being one of the worst days of my life to one of the best. Don't get me wrong, I miss Grandma Valerie like crazy and will mourn her for a long time, but I feel like she brought us together. I can't believe we get to be together. Wait. You do want me as a mate, right?" Kate was so happy she didn't think that he might not want her.

"Of course I want you. I've wanted you forever. Do you want to meet Ceasar before you make up your mind?" Xavier asked. Kate put her hands on his cheeks and looked into his eyes.

"I can meet him later. I don't need any time to make up my mind. It's always been you. I love you, Xavier." Kate kissed him and put her tongue in his mouth. He stood up and carried her toward the bedroom. He'd never been there before, but the apartment was small enough that he was able to figure out where the bedroom was. He laid Kate on the bed and looked down at her.

"I love you too."
