BK 5 - Chapter 13 - The Search Is Over

**Roseville, California**

Marcy looked at Cat and the others with excitement. Today was better than she could have ever dreamed. Not only did she have her first birthday party, but she also found out she was a werewolf.

"Do all of you have animals?" She asked Trey, Melanie, and Saxon.

"Trey and Melanie have lions. Saxon is a vampire." Cat replied. Marcy's eyes widened as she looked at Saxon.

"Vampires are real too? Do you bite people and drink their blood?" She asked. Saxon shook his head as he held back his chuckle.

"I don't bite people. I get blood from a blood bank." He replied.

"Are there any wolves like me here?" Marcy asked them.

"Wesley and Mindy are wolves, and so are their kids. Werewolves and other shifters get their animals when they're five. When you get older, you'll be able to change into Star." Cat explained gently. She'd never had to explain this to a child before.

"You can change into a lion?" Marcy asked her. Cat nodded. "Can you show me?"

"Yes, I can show you, but I don't want you to be scared, okay? Saira won't hurt you." Cat told her as she stood up.

"Okay, I won't be scared." Marcy leaned forward, waiting. Cat went into the guest room to remove her clothes and shifted into Saira. She slowly walked out to the living room.

"Wow," Marcy whispered. Milo was looking at the lioness in awe, just like Marcy. She was incredible. Saira walked over to where they were sitting and put her head on Marcy's legs. She giggled as she rubbed the lioness' head.

"You're so pretty," Marcy said. Saira purred loudly as the little girl scratched her behind her ears. After a few minutes, she went back to the guest room and shifted back into Cat. When she walked back out, Marcy's eyes were shining.

"So, what do you think about being a wolf?" Cat asked her, taking her spot next to Trey.

"I think it's really neat. So does this mean my mommy and daddy are wolves, too?" She asked.

"At least one of them was. Now that we know that you're a werewolf, we have new places we can start looking for your parents. We'll start calling some of the wolf packs we know to see if they know anything." Trey answered her. Marcy looked up at Milo and then back at the others.

"If you don't find them, can Milo be my daddy?" She asked softly. Milo was shocked she'd ask such a thing after only knowing him for two days. He knew from talking to Cat that kids would find one person they could connect with and become attached to them. He didn't know what to say.

"Let's see if we can find them, and then we'll talk about that, okay?" Cat was just as surprised as Milo about what Marcy had asked. She was concerned that if they found her parents, she may want to stay with Milo instead. Cat would make sure if they found her parents, she'd explain why Milo needed to be in her life. He was her safety person, and taking that away could damage her even more. She watched him with Marcy as she started getting sleepy. He let her lie across his lap, and she fell asleep within minutes. Even though she could tell he wasn't used to being around kids, he was a natural with Marcy.

Roger and Emma were only two days old and were already spoiled by everyone in the house. Kiersten only got them usually when it was time for them to be fed. The rest of the time, someone was holding them. Alex thought it was a good thing they had two, so there was less bickering over who got to hold who.

"So, Jade, have you spoken to Milo since finding out he's your brother?" Lisa asked as she and Jayce cuddled Emma. Jade and Bill were sitting across from them with Roger. They got a kick out of how their big, strong men turned into mush around the cubs.

"We talked briefly, but he was busy getting ready for a birthday party for one of the little girls. I guess she's become quite attached to him. Now that Uncle Trey knows we're related, he's trying to pinpoint who our mother could be. It looks like Milo was taken from her as a baby, even though he's not a shifter or vampire or anything. I wonder why Cole would bother." Jade kissed Roger's little forehead as he slept in her arms.

"I wonder if you have any other siblings out there. Although, Morgan would have found them if you did." Lisa thought about Adelma. They had talked a lot, but Melanie and Saxon would always be her mom and dad. She was happy they had gotten Adelma out of that place, and she'd found her mate. Both of them agreed that they were comfortable with how things were between them.

"I told Milo I was going to give him a hard time for wanting to kill us, but honestly, it's nice to find another little piece of myself. You know I was thinking about Leo. He tortured everyone he came into contact with. Aunt Cat was the one affected by him most of all. Now she's a werelion. Aunt Kitty is his daughter, and she's also a werelion. I'm his granddaughter and a vampire. It seems like most of the people damaged by him are, in spite of his actions, in much better places. I think a lot about what Aunt Cat said. She's told us many times those who have been hurt accept the supernatural world better than others because they've already seen monsters. I wonder how many others Leo hurt out there are like us."

Jade had thought about this a lot, even before she knew about Milo. Of all the people in the world who needed a better life, it was those who were affected by people like Leo. Milo wasn't a werewolf or anything else, but she wondered if there was someone out there for him, too. Maybe he had a mate who hadn't found him yet.

Samantha pulled into the hotel parking lot close to midnight. The luna had texted her the address for the group homes and Cat's phone number. She didn't want to show up in the middle of the night, so she checked into the hotel and figured she'd call Cat in the morning.

She pulled out the pictures she had of Duncan and the ones of Dina when she was a baby. She looks so much like her dad with her dark hair and blue eyes. Maybe Cat would be able to help her find her baby girl. All she wanted was to hold her daughter again and let her know how much she loved her. Samantha fell asleep holding the picture of her daughter to her chest.

The next morning, she was up early, but she didn't call Cat until eight. As the phone rang, she held her breath. Was this the missing piece of the puzzle?

"Hello?" A woman answered. Samantha almost couldn't speak.

"Hello. I'm trying to reach Cat. I'm sorry to bother you so early, but I was told that she may be able to help me find my daughter." Samantha could barely get her words out. She knew the woman on the other end probably thought she was crazy.

"I'm Cat. Hang on just a second. We just got the kids out the door for school. Now, why don't you tell me about your daughter, and I'll see if we can help you." Cat says into the phone.

"My name is Samantha, and I'm a werewolf. Dina was kidnapped by her grandfather almost four years ago when she was about eighteen months old. I have been searching for her all over the country. I spoke to a luna yesterday who takes in orphan pups, and she told me to reach out to you." There was silence on the other end.

"Samantha, are you nearby? Would you mind coming to my house, and do you have pictures of Dina with you?" Cat asked. She had a feeling she knew exactly who her daughter was and almost couldn't contain her excitement.

"Yes, I'm in a hotel here in Roseville. I have pictures of her." Samantha answered as she stood up and prepared to leave.

"What about your mate? Is he with you?" Cat asked.

"No. His father killed him when I was pregnant. He didn't like that his son had become a wolf. He would have killed me, too, but there were too many people around, so he ran off." Samantha answered.

"Okay. I'll see you when you get here. I'll make you breakfast, so I hope you're hungry." Cat disconnected the call, and Samantha felt a real glimmer of hope. She drove to Cat's house and almost ran to the front door. When it opened, she saw a petite woman with long black hair and beautiful blue eyes. She smiled warmly at Samantha, and she instantly felt like she was wrapped in a warm blanket.

"Samantha?" Cat asked, smiling at the young woman. She was a little taller than Cat with golden brown hair and light brown eyes. Cat could see the pain all over her pretty face.

"Yes." She answered. Cat didn't hesitate. She wrapped her arms around her, and Samantha broke down in sobs. She didn't know why, but the kindness of this woman released everything she'd been holding in for years. Cat stroked her head as she cried on her.

"Come inside, dear, so we can talk." She led Samantha into the kitchen and put a plate of French toast and sausage in front of her.

"Thank you." Samantha didn't think she was hungry, but as soon as the smell of the food hit her nose, her stomach growled. She couldn't remember the last time she ate. She tended to skip meals and only eat when she had to.

"You're welcome. Did you bring the pictures of Dina?" Cat asked anxiously. She was hoping that Marcy was Dina. Samantha pulled out the pictures, and Cat saw tears fill her eyes before she handed them over.

"I took these just a couple of days before she was taken from me." Samantha held out the pictures. Cat smiled as she looked at them.

"She's beautiful. I'm going to get someone. I'll be right back." Cat walked to the back door and looked out. Milo was outside setting up a soccer goal. One of the kids had mentioned to him at the party that he wanted to play soccer, and first thing that morning, Milo went out and bought a bunch of soccer supplies. He said he's putting the money Cole left him to use by helping the kids.

"Milo. Can you come here for a minute?" Cat asked. He put his things down and walked toward her.

"Sure, did you need help with something?" He asked.

"I have someone I want you to meet," Cat said with a smile. She held her breath and hoped she was right. As soon as Milo entered the house, her eyes went to Samantha to see her reaction.

Samantha froze as a scent hit her like a slap to the face. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Her heart started racing, and Goldie began howling in her head.

"We have a second chance, mate, and he's here," Goldie said excitedly. Samantha opened her eyes and saw Cat standing beside a handsome man with black hair and green eyes. She couldn't breathe and could also tell he was human.

Milo stared at the pretty young woman. She was looking at him in shock, and he didn't know why, but he felt drawn to her. He stepped forward and held his hand out.

"Hello, I'm Milo." Samantha shook his hand and felt the sparks she hadn't felt in a long time. It almost made her cry. Milo's eyes widened. Cat stood back, trying to keep herself from doing a happy dance. She knew it. Fate wouldn't have been that cruel to these three people that needed each other.

"I'm Samantha." She said, trying to refrain from saying, mate. She couldn't focus on a mate while she was looking for her daughter. Cat stepped forward with a smile.

"Milo, Samanths is Marcy's mother."
