BK 2 - Chapter 64 - No More Threats
"Give me my son, and let her go now," Trey yelled at the man as he started walking toward him.
"If you want them, then let us have your mate. We get the caladrius, and you get your son." Gina laughed when she saw Trey stop to turn to her.
Thatcher kept his eyes on Janel. He decided if he was going to act, he had to do it fast while no one was expecting it. He glanced toward Trey, who didn't look directly at him but gave Thatcher a slight nod.
While everyone was staring at Trey and Cat to see what they would do, Thatcher ran like the wind, snatched Theo from the man's hands, and threw Janel over his shoulder. He was standing next to Cat handing her Theo as the man tried to figure out what had happened.
Trey wasted no time once he saw Theo was in Cat's arms. He ran over to the large man and broke his neck. Even if he was a shifter, he couldn't heal from that. He then looked at his mother with pure hatred in his eyes.
"You have crossed the line, Gina." She looked at him in fear as her son called her by her name.
"I was only thinking about this family. You know I want to ensure you are all taken care of." Gina tried to sound sincere, but she sounded dishonest even to herself.
"That's a lie. You only think about yourself; you always have. Only those who will raise your status or have something you want are worthy of your time. This is goodbye and a warning. You are dead if any of you come near me, Cat, Aiden, Kitty, Daniella, Chip, or any of our cubs again." Trey looked at his mother and the others as they glanced at each other.
They still wanted Cat but were unsure now because of Trey's threat. Sonya refused to back down. She wanted that woman dead. She decided she was stronger than all of them and wasn't afraid to attack. While Thatcher was whispering to Janel, she made her move.
Cat saw her coming before anyone else and quickly turned her back toward Sonya to block her from injuring Theo. She felt the lion's claws in her back, tearing her skin from her shoulders to her waist. She heard a roar next to her, and as she looked up, she saw Atlas. He jumped on the female lion ripping off chunks of her as she continued trying to get to Cat. The fight only lasted a few minutes before Sonya was dead. Atlas didn't have a scratch on him.
Kitty was looking at Cat's back, which had already stopped bleeding. The deep wounds would have been much more severe if she had been human.
"Does anyone else want to come forward?" Aiden asked, taking the lead as Atlas growled. Derrick looked at his mate lying on the ground dead and felt relieved. She had been a horrible person, and he blamed her for losing his leg. He and his lion had stopped caring for her a long time ago. Luckily they never had any cubs to inherit her negative influence. He stood up on his prosthetic leg and looked toward Atlas.
"Thank you. I've been waiting a long time for someone to do that." Derrick then walked out of the house.
"Reece, do you have anything you want to add?" Aiden asked his brother. He was standing next to Twila, who had shifted back to human and was lying on the floor with a blanket over her, crying in pain.
"We won't bother any of you anymore." Reece wasn't looking to fight his stronger brothers. He wanted to get Twila out of there before Atlas decided to finish her off. Aiden turned to the last two people who hadn't backed down.
"What about the two of you?" He asked his parents.
Gina didn't want to give up but seeing as three of her children were against her, one was dead, and the other was useless, she didn't think she had a choice. She glared at Cat and Kitty. Her family wouldn't have been torn apart if those women hadn't come into their lives. Caladrius or not, she still wanted the two women dead.
Atlas, who seemed to read her thoughts, suddenly jumped on her holding her to the ground while growling in her face. Gina's lioness tried to come out, but it had been so long since she'd shifted Gina couldn't do it with the terror coursing through her body. Atlas was unrelenting, and she finally gave in.
"Fine, we'll leave the two worthless women alone." Atlas didn't like Cat and Kitty being called worthless, so he bit Gina's hand, yanking it off at the wrist. He tossed it over toward her husband as she screamed.
"Don't talk about our mates like that again, or you'll lose more than a hand. We're leaving now. If anyone comes near any of us, you're dead." Daniella had gone upstairs to get Trey some clothes for when he shifted. After he was dressed, they walked out of the house. They could still hear Twila crying and Gina screaming as they left.
When the group got to the driveway, Trey looked at Cat's back, and anger flashed in his eyes. If Sonya wasn't already dead, he would go back in and kill her.
"It's okay. It doesn't hurt anymore." Cat looked down at Theo, who was clueless about what was happening. She kissed his forehead and held him tighter. When she had seen that man holding him, her heart felt like it had stopped beating.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that. I knew my family was bad, but I didn't think they would sink to this level." Trey leaned down and gave her a soft kiss. Cat felt better already, although she was upset that they couldn't make things work with his parents. She looked toward Daniella and Chip.
"I'm glad your sister and her mate had the courage to leave." Trey looked toward the couple and waved them over.
"Dani, thank you for having our backs," Trey said with a smile.
"Anytime, big brother. No one's called me Dani in years other than Chip. I'm glad you came today. We had wanted to get away from them for a long time, but I was worried they would hurt Chip to get back at me." Daniella smiled up at her mate. She felt like a heavy burden had been lifted off their shoulders.
"What are your plans now? Are you staying in the area?" Cat asked with a smile. She was happy that one of Trey's sisters had ended up being kind.
"We haven't decided. We don't want to stay here. There are too many unpleasant memories. We've gotten jobs in the past few years, but we never said anything to the family. Chip works as a child advocate lawyer, and I'm a social worker. I know those aren't high-paying jobs, but with Chip's background, they're important to us." Daniella blushed a little, talking about their work.
"That's amazing, Dani. I'm glad you're doing something that helps people. Have you thought about relocating to the Sacramento area for the time being?" Aiden and Kitty had heard what she and Chip were doing. It sounded like they needed a change, just as he and Kitty had not too long ago.
"We haven't thought that far. What are you all doing there?" Daniella asked, curious as to what her brothers had been up to. Trey and Aiden told them about the group home and everything that's happened in the past several months.
"Wow, you've been busy. I can't believe you got married and had a cub. Congratulations, Aiden and Kitty, on your engagement. I hope we'll be invited to the wedding." Daniella looked at her brother and his mate with a smile.
"Of course, you'll be invited. How about coming to Sacramento with us?" Kitty asked.
"We'll seriously think about it. Our cubs are still young enough to not be affected by relocating. Let us sort some things out, and we'll let you know." Daniella and Chip hugged the two couples and then went to discuss their plans.
"You lions sure like your drama. I don't know about you, but we're ready to return home." Thatcher said, looking down at Janel.
"Home? Are you staying?" Cat asked, looking between him and Janel.
"Janel likes it in Sacramento, and I'm not tied down to any one place, so yes, I think we'll stay for a bit. I would like to see what you do with this group home of yours, and we can't miss little Theo growing up." He looked down at his mate and smiled. Thatcher liked this feeling of family and was looking forward to having some little ones of their own.
The group drove back home with a sense of accomplishment. They were successful in stopping everyone that was a threat to their family. Now they could focus on the things that really matter.
