BK 5 - Chapter 60 - Marking
Isla looked from Morgan to Petra in shock. They were cousins? How was that possible? She didn't have any magic or anything like Petra.
"I told you that you were like Petra. Now, can you show me some of your magic?" Penelope asked excitedly, hugging Isla. She pulled the little pup onto her lap and hugged her back. Nathan was thankful for Penelope because she seemed to be exactly what Isla needed at the moment.
"We're cousins?" Isla asked, almost to herself. Petra walked over and sat next to her.
"Apparently. I didn't have my magic until after I was marked, so you'll probably get yours after Nathan marks you. Our pack was destroyed, and all the pups were sold to other packs. I was too young to remember it, so I know you were, too." Petra explained. Isla was still in shock. Penelope looked up at her with concern.
"Are you okay? Our family won't let anyone sell you again," she said, and Isla smiled down at her. Penelope's sweet, innocent nature drew her to the little pup.
"I'm just surprised. I never thought I had any family," Isla explained. She wondered if what Petra said was true. Would she have magic after she was marked by Nathan? She looked over at him, and he smiled.
"I told you there had to be a reason they didn't do what we discussed. They probably knew what pack you were from and didn't want to unlock your magic. They probably hadn't realized it was tied to the mate bond. Don't worry; we don't have to rush into marking each other just because of this. We can do it when you're ready." He said softly. The rest of the family had gone back to talking among themselves to give the couple a bit of privacy.
Isla thought about marking Nathan and knew that's what she wanted. She may still be scared, but she wanted everything he had to offer. She looked at him and smiled slightly.
"Let's mark each other. I was always scared that I wouldn't be good enough to be a mate, but the way you've treated me shows me that I can get there. One day, I'll be everything you want in a mate." She whispered so only those next to her would hear. Nathan kissed her forehead and hugged Isla and Penelope.
"You're already everything I want in a mate." He whispered back to her.
"Okay, so can you mark each other now? I've never seen anyone get marked." Penelope asked happily. Typically, marking your mate could have an orgasmic effect. Nathan didn't expect that to happen with Isla because she wasn't having those feelings yet.
"It's up to you. Do you want to do it here or in private?" Nathan asked. Isla looked around at everyone there, and it was overwhelming. However, they were responsible for her finding Nathan and discovering Petra was her cousin. Sharing something as personal as marking her mate seemed small compared to everything they had done for her.
"We can do it here," Isla replied, even as her face turned red. Penelope threw her little arms around her.
"Thank you, thank you. No one else has let me watch. I don't know what the big deal is. Isla and Nathan are my new favorite aunt and uncle," she announced. The adults started laughing, and she glared at them.
"What about me?" Buddy asked. He pretended to pout, and Penelope rolled her eyes.
"I'll still pat your head and say you're a good boy, but you and Maxie didn't let me watch you mark each other. So sorry, you're not my favorite." She shrugged and hugged Isla again. Buddy and Maxie laughed. Having Penelope watch them mark each other hadn't been an option.
"Are you sure?" Nathan asked, even as the excitement built inside of him. After the way Isla had been just the day before, he never dreamt she would be ready for them to mark each other so quickly.
"Yes, I'm sure. Are you ready to do it now?" She asked. Penelope looked up at Nathan and narrowed her eyes at him.
"If you say you're not ready, I will have Petra use her magic on you and make you so small you have to ride in Karalee's pouch," Penelope said. Nathan held his hands up in surrender.
"Yes, I'm ready. When exactly did you become part of our relationship?" he asked while tickling her. She giggled as she tried to squirm away.
"I'm part of everyone's relationship," Penelope said after she got off Isla's lap and crawled onto Petra's. Bailey and her mate Tom laughed as they watched their daughter. She was their youngest and the most outgoing of all of their children, but she also had the biggest heart. Penelope always knew who needed her the most.
"Everyone, Uncle Nathan and Aunt Isla are going to mark each other, and I get to watch," Penelope yelled. "Okay, go ahead."
"Thanks for putting us on the spot," Nathan said.
"You're welcome," Penelope replied. Isla smiled at her and ruffled her little curls.
"I wish I could be like you." She said to the pup. Penelope's mouth opened in shock.
"Why do you want to be like me? I don't have magic, and I don't have my wolf yet," she asked. Isla kissed her head.
"I want to be like you because you're not scared of everything. When I was your age, I was afraid to talk or move. Even now, I'm terrified I'm going to do something wrong. You have so much fight in you; I wish I had just a little bit of it in me." Everyone had stopped talking to listen. Penelope got off Petra's lap and stood in front of Isla.
"Maybe when you get your magic, you won't feel scared anymore. I can hold your hand so you won't be alone when you're scared." Penelope held Isla's hand and smiled.
"Thank you." She kissed her cheek and hugged her. "Okay, Nathan, I guess we better mark each other."
Penelope clapped her hands and watched with excitement. Nathan and Isla turned to face each other.
"You go first," Nathan said, tilting his head so she could mark him. Isla looked at Penelope, who nodded her head and smiled. She pretended no one else was there as she leaned forward while her canines extended. When she bit into Nathan, she closed her eyes. She could feel her spirit being tied to his, and it made her pulse race. When she pulled back, he smiled.
Nathan had done everything he could not to moan while his family watched Isla mark him. When she tilted her head, he leaned forward and bit into her neck. The sparks from becoming fully mated filled their bodies, and they almost stopped breathing. Nathan pulled back and kissed Isla's forehead.
"Do you feel better now?" Penelope asked anxiously. Isla smiled, and everyone gasped.
"Yes, sweetheart, I feel much better." She replied, looking at everyone staring at her. Penelope touched her face.
"You're glowing, Isla. Like you have a light on your skin," the pup said quietly. Petra smiled at her.
"It's the magic. Welcome home, cousin."
