BK 5 - Chapter 57 - Reinforcements
**Denver, Colorado**
Simon looked at Krystal as he hung up the phone. He had heard about the werelion family in California; just about all shifters had. However, he never thought they knew about him and his team.
"That was Cat Galloway from the Werelion family. She said there was an earthquake out there that was more supernatural in nature. She would like us to go to California to assist in the event that humans or shifters need help. According to Cat, they expect it to get a lot worse, and she's calling in as many resources as possible." Simon ran his fingers through his short blonde hair, and Krystal could see the excitement in his dark green eyes.
She met Simon when her husband, now ex-husband, had chained her up in the basement of their house in New Zealand during one of the biggest storms of the decade. Simon and his partner Dorian were working with their search and rescue team, looking for survivors. Simon's snow leopard, Hunter, had picked up Krystal's scent and found her when she was almost dead.
She had no idea about the supernatural world but found herself as the mate of a snow leopard. That wasn't the most surprising thing that happened, though. Her parents revealed that she was part hippogriff. She had never heard of such a thing, but it hadn't had much effect on her other than she could feel others' emotions when she was close to them, even if they were trying to hide them. Their six-month-old son, Johan, shared his mom's blond hair and bright blue eyes.
"Wow, they're actually calling for our help already. At least we're not that far away right now. I'm excited to meet them after everything we've heard. They sound incredible. Are we going to take Dorian?" After Simon marked Krystal, she moved with him to his home in Colorado. His partner Dorian lived nearby; he's a werewolf and hasn't found his mate yet.
"Yeah, we'll take him and call in more help if needed," Simon called Dorian while Krystal began packing. Within a few hours, they picked up Dorian and were on their way. The SUV was filled with excitement and nervousness. None of them understood what supernatural beings could cause an earthquake or why. They were sure the Werelion family would explain.

**Arlington, Virginia**
"Sherri, remember a few months ago when we called and talked to a woman named Cat in California about missing shifters?" Shaun asked as he carried their two-year-old daughter, Gabi, through the house. They work undercover for a special team within the FBI searching for people trafficking shifters. They're currently on a break and back at their home in Virginia. His amber eyes match their daughters, but Gabi has Sherri's golden brown hair rather than Shaun's sandy brown. They're werepanthers.
Sherri lived in a small town in North Carolina when Shaun was undercover looking for a sex trafficking group that he believed was operating out of her town. When they met, he explained everything about being mates and shifters. Sherri accepted him and never looked back. Now, she was working undercover with him because his supervisor liked having an actual family undercover to blend in better. It also helped that Sherri knew how to fight and fire a gun.
"Yeah, I remember. What about her?" Sherri asked, taking Gabi from him. She was a little bundle of energy, always running.
"Cat just called and said she would like our help. They had an earthquake out there, and she said it's supernatural in nature, so it's not your typical earthquake. She's calling as many shifters and other supernaturals as she can to come out and fight the evils that will be coming. She didn't go into detail, and I know this isn't what we usually do, but I'm too intrigued not to go. What do you think?" Shaun already knew what Sherri would say. She loved adventure.
"I say let's get on the next plane out of here. I can't believe she called us." Sherri said in disbelief as they headed upstairs to pack.
"I know, but from everything I've heard about them, they're good people. If they're having trouble, I want to help." While Sherri began packing, Shaun booked them on the next plane to California. Fighting against whatever was going on wasn't something they had ever done, but they were both willing to help. Shifters and other supernaturals had to stick together.

**Las Vegas, Nevada**
Karalee and Laim were packing up to go to California. Karalee is a professional female boxer who just became the world featherweight champion. However, all those fights couldn't compare to how nervous she was to meet Cat and the rest of the werelion family.
Karalee is a werekangaroo, and her mate Liam was a human, or so they thought. After she marked him, they discovered he was part Caladrius. The only other Caladrius anyone knew of were the ones in the Werelion family. Liam had reached out to Cat and asked if it was possible that he was related to her family. She had told them to come and see them in California, and they could run some tests to verify that they were related.
Liam was excited at the prospect of meeting someone from his birth family. He had been raised in foster care and never knew his birth family. Karalee was more concerned because what if this was the family that threw him away? She didn't want Liam to be hurt anymore. She braided her long blonde hair and watched him as he combed his curly dark brown hair. They had only been together for a few months, but it was the best months of her life.
"Are you ready to go?" He asked her anxiously.
"Yep." They grabbed their bags and headed out of the hotel. Several fans recognized Karalee, so she stopped to sign a few autographs. Once they made it outside, their rental car was waiting for them. Karalee's trainer, Benji, and her sparring partner, Mason, were also in Las Vegas. Neither were shifters, but Benji knew what Karalee was. They were staying behind as this was a trip they wanted to take on their own.
The drive to Sacramento took about nine hours. Liam called Cat when they were almost there, and she gave them an address in Granite Bay to go to. When they pulled up to the enormous gated mansion, Karalee's anger built. Were they living like this while Liam was being bullied in foster care?
Several people were waiting outside when the gate opened, and they pulled up to the house. Liam was almost bouncing with excitement while Karalee was watching them more cautiously. When they exited the car, a small woman with black hair ran over with a large smile. Before either Liam or Karalee could say anything, she hugged them and kissed their cheeks.
"I'm so glad you could make it. I'm Grandma Cat." She said, taking their hands and pulling them toward the others. Karalee could feel that same soothing feeling from Cat that she felt from Liam, but it was stronger.
"Everyone, Karalee and Liam are here," she announced. People came over and started to introduce themselves.
"Out of my way, let me through." Karalee looked down and saw a little girl with perfect blonde curls. She looked up at Karalee with a large smile.
"We watched you fight on TV last night. Are you really a kangaroo? Can I ride in your pouch?" She asked, but Karalee didn't know what to say. She didn't have much experience with kids.
"Yes, I'm really a kangaroo. You may be too big for my pouch." She replied.
"Okay. I'm Penelope. Everyone calls me Princess Penelope, but I'll let you just call me Penelope. Can you teach me how to fight like you? I'm a werewolf, but I don't have my wolf yet. Can I see your kangaroo? Can it really bounce on its tail?" Penelope grabbed Karalee's hand and pulled her toward the house. Karalee looked at the others for help.
"Penelope, can you give them five minutes to meet everyone before you kidnap them?" Bailey asked her daughter.
"You can have Liam, I'll take Karalee. You always say it's nice to share." Karalee and Liam looked at each other and burst out laughing.
"I like you, Princess Penelope." Karalee squatted down next to her and pulled on one of her curls. Penelope giggled and threw her arms around her.
"Hey, I thought I was your favorite," Buddy asked, looking at Penelope as though he was hurt. She rolled her eyes and let go of Karalee.
"Ignore him. You know how boys are. You have to pat their heads and tell them good boy sometimes so they stop whining." She tried to whisper but everyone heard her clear as day and started laughing. Maxie kissed Buddy's cheek even as she laughed with the others.
"I'm sure you guys heard about the earthquake yesterday. It wasn't a regular earthquake. We're going to be attacked soon, but we're not sure by what and when. So you're going to see a lot of activity around here," Cat explained as they walked into the house.
"Can we help?" Karalee asked. After five minutes of being around the family, all her doubts about them faded. She knew that if they had known about Liam, he would have been here with the rest of them.
"We would love all the help we can get. We have plenty of room for you to stay with one of us. Morgan will be here soon to take some bloodwork from you, Liam, but I've done some research myself. My great-great grandparents had several children who were part caladrius, and I believe you may be related to one of them, which would make me your aunt. We'll know for sure, but either way, you are both part of this family now." Cat hugged them again as they both began crying. Liam grew up in foster care, and Karalee's parents were killed when she was a child. They both had always wanted family, and just hearing Cat say those words made them want to do whatever they could to protect her and everyone else in the family.
Cat did the best she could to hide her fear. She didn't like asking everyone for help, but when the underworld attacked, it would affect all of them and their way of life. It was time for shifters, vampires, and all other supernatural beings to unite to fight evil before it could ruin the world, or nothing would ever be the same for anyone.
