BK 3 - Chapter 50 - Shifter Fighting

Wesley hung up the phone with a sigh after Melanie's call. They would need to go to Rio, but he wanted to finish going through the boxes before they left. He would have everyone ready to leave tomorrow evening. That should give him and Roger enough time to find any pertinent information.

"You're leaving again?" Mindy asked nervously. She knew Wesley had important work to do, but it didn't make her heart feel any better being away from him again.

"Yeah, hopefully, it will be a quick trip. We have a date and time for a meeting with Vincent. If we can get him, we should be able to end their whole operation." Wesley looked up and saw the tears in Mindy's eyes that she was trying to wipe away. He didn't want to leave her either, but he didn't have a choice.

"I'm going to miss you." She whispered. Valerie and Roger had stepped out to prepare dinner, so they had a few minutes alone. Wesley pulled Mindy onto his lap and kissed her forehead.

"I'll miss you too. When I get back this time, I promise it will be to stay." Mindy hugged him and kissed his cheek. When he turned his head slightly, their lips touched. They hadn't had a real kiss yet, but neither pulled away. Wesley let her lead as Mindy started moving her mouth against his. The electricity that spread through their bodies made them forget where they were. All that mattered was each other. Mindy opened her mouth, and Wesley slid his tongue inside, stroking hers gently. When she moaned, he almost lost it. As they pulled apart, they were breathless.

"Wow," Mindy gasped. She'd didn't have a lot of kissing experience, but that was incredible.

"I second that wow," Wesley said, kissing her again gently.

"Will it still feel like that after you mark me?" Mindy asked, snuggling into him.

"From what I heard, it's even better." He answered. His heart was still racing from her taste and her scent.

"I'll let you get back to work, but we're definitely going to do some more of that before you leave. I have to remind you what you're coming home to." Mindy said as she slid off Wesley's lap to sit beside him.

"I don't think I could forget. I traveled all over the world because I had nothing to come home to. You are my home now. Wherever you are is where I want to be," Wesley said, kissing her cheek before returning to the paperwork.

Mindy smiled to herself. If knights in shining armor were real, she'd found one. Even better, he's a werewolf. She couldn't wait to be one, too.

The following morning, Saxon, Melanie, and the cubs were going to look at a few houses. They hoped one of them was what they were looking for so they could start the purchasing process as soon as possible.

A black Lexus was in the driveway when they pulled up to the first house. A beautiful tall thin woman with long chestnut brown hair stepped out wearing an extremely short red skirt and a tight black blouse that had too many buttons undone for Melanie's liking. The woman's breasts were practically spilling out of her top.

"You must be Saxon. I'm Tiffany." She purred to Saxon as she took his hand with both of hers. Chika started growling until Melanie told her to be quiet. Saxon snatched his hand from Tiffany's and put his arm around Melanie.

"Yes, I'm Saxon, and this is my wife Melanie, and these are our children." He said. Tiffany barely glanced at the others as she ran her hand up Saxon's bicep. Now Melanie was getting ready to let Chika have the woman, but it was Lisa who spoke up.

"Take your hand off, my daddy. You should put some clothes on, too. It's really not nice to walk around in your underwear." Lisa said, glaring at the woman who took a step back as her face turned red with anger.

"Why, you little brat. I think someone needs to teach you some manners." Melanie stepped between Lisa and Tiffany.

"I dare you to say one more word to her. If you lay another finger on my husband or speak to my children that way again, we will file so many complaints your realtor license will be revoked. We don't need to see this house. We have others to look at that aren't being shown by desperate tramps. Oh, and by the way, you just got yourself out of a huge commission because we were going to offer more than the asking price and pay cash." Melanie led everyone back to the car while Tiffany stared at them in shock. Saxon wrapped his arms around her as soon as the cubs were in the back seat.

"A little territorial, are we?" He asked with a smirk.

"I'm sorry. Did you want to go back to her?" Melanie challenged him, and he laughed before kissing her.

"She's not my type. I like blonde lionesses with attitude." Saxon said before giving her another deeper kiss. Melanie giggled as she got into the car.

They drove to the next house. Everyone was happy to see an older woman that reminded them of Mrs. Clause waiting on the front porch. The house was beautiful. It was a two-story red brick with white shutters. There were five bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. Melanie and Saxon thought it would be a wonderful home for their family to grow.

"Hello, I'm Diana," the realtor smiled at the young family. She looked at the children, who were eyeing her up and down. "I take it you two must be in charge. Would you like to see the inside?"

Melanie and Saxon hid their chuckles at the bewildered look on the cub's faces. Diana obviously knew how to win children over. Lisa looked at her parents.

"Is it okay if we go inside?" She asked.

"Of course," Melanie answered.

They all followed Diana into the house. It was even more incredible than it looked online. The downstairs had all hardwood floors except in the primary bedroom, while the upstairs had carpet. Alex and Lisa were so excited about everything they saw. They immediately claimed the two bedrooms attached to the Jack and Jill bathroom.

There was an enormous backyard with a built-in treehouse when they went outside. It was more than they could have hoped for. Melanie mindlinked Saxon.

*"What do you think?"* She asked excitedly.

*"From the cub's response and the look on your face, I don't think we need to look any further. It could use a little updating, but that means we can make it like we want."* He answered before kissing her.

"Diana," Melanie said as they walked over to the older woman who was showing the cubs where there used to be a vegetable garden.

"Yes, dear." She answered.

"We'll take it," Melanie said while looking at the cubs. Their faces lit up as they squealed with excitement.

"We're going to have a house and be a real family?" Lisa asked, running over to Melanie and leaping into her arms.

"Yes. Do you like this house?" She asked as Saxon picked up Alex, who was laughing.

"We love it," Lisa answered.

"All right. I'll get the paperwork started. Do you already have your financing arranged?" Diana asked, beaming at the family.

"We're paying cash, and we'd like to close on it as soon as possible," Saxon answered. They tried not to laugh when Diana's face froze with her mouth open.

"Okay, then, we can close relatively quickly," She answered, still in shock. They followed Diana to her car, where she took down Melanie's email address to send the purchase contract and other documents they would need to sign. Once they left, they got back in the car and headed out to lunch to celebrate. Melanie and Saxon wanted to spend as much time with the cubs as possible before leaving again that evening.

Wesley and Roger were almost through the boxes of paperwork. They had identified many of the deceased shifters and those they had rescued. They were still trying to find anything that would lead them to anyone else helping Lorin and Brendon. So far, there was nothing.

When they opened the last box, there were only a few files inside. They started coming across names they recognized. Vincent, Karlee, Eli, and Harper. It had their ages and species. It looked like those who had hired them also had other plans for them.

"Roger, look at this," Wesley said, pointing to a bill of sale.

"Is that what I think it is?" Roger asked in disbelief.

"Yeah. Vincent's father sold them all off to be put into a shifter fighting ring. It looks like after they sell their merchandise tomorrow, Vincent's dad is going to hand them over to someone else. At least we'll get there first. We can take down the traffickers and this fighting ring. I wonder if they have them fighting in human or animal form." Wesley said, rubbing his eyes tiredly. Roger pulled something out of a file and froze.

"Both," He showed Wesley a picture of a male werewolf with a silver collar on that would prevent him from shifting fighting a large black panther. It was gruesome and inhumane. Wesley shook his head in disbelief. Will the cruelty to shifters ever stop?
